Can Tesla FSD v14.3.4 Actually Obey Parking Laws?

[00:00:06]We are doing a another FSD drive.

[00:00:10]So, today we are testing version 14.3.

[00:00:15]4. Just came out a few days ago. I've already done a couple drives.

[00:00:22]So, right now we're going to focus entirely on parking lots and parking.

[00:00:27]Specifically testing the park versus the pull over.

[00:00:33]We're in like in a plaza, so we're just going to go from store to store and try to see what the difference is, what the behavior is like.

[00:00:46]So, it's like we're going to the front of this area here.

[00:00:51]Little confusion with that Kia.

[00:00:58]So, we're going to do So, obviously this pop up is now new with 14.3.4.

[00:01:03]And basically, when you get to around 500 m of your destination, this little pop up will show up.

[00:01:08]Because the biggest annoyance was sometimes like you wouldn't notice what the setting was at, cuz it would change randomly.

[00:01:17]Sometimes it would be for curbside and other times it would be for parking lot.

[00:01:23]So, very nice parking job here.

[00:01:25]So, the store we're going to go to is right over there, so I'm happy with this.

[00:01:29]Kind of like instead of going to the front of the store and then looking for a spot after the fact, we just parked cuz this is an available spot.

[00:01:37]So, I'm just going to go to a different store in the same plaza and see if we can do curbside. So, we're just going to go to Starbucks.

[00:01:47]Now, because we're within 500 m, I don't know if it will prompt me. Let's see.

[00:01:56]The easiest way would have been to go the other way.

[00:01:59]But So we're 180 m. So I'm just going to go ahead and change this to pull over.

[00:02:09]And see what the difference is.

[00:02:21]The confusion part comes where with curbside versus street.

[00:02:30]I'm assuming if you're going to do any type of pull over, the car is really not going to look for a space and it's going to look it's going to just stop where in front of the store.

[00:02:41]So let's see if it does that.

[00:02:52]So I'm thinking it's going to like just stop right Oh, it's going to stop right here. Okay.

[00:03:10]Okay, so what I'm going to do now, I'm going to go back to where I was before.

[00:03:22]And then we're going to come back and try that. I guess there is no street parking.

[00:03:42]So I'm going to have to park in the same spot.

[00:05:17]So, I'm looking forward to that. But in the meantime, we don't know if it's going to be the next update or, you know, six updates from now.

[00:05:28]So, in the meantime, we're just going to test this out and see if we can make it through this drive without any disengagements.

[00:05:41]Cuz most of the disengagements I get are at home because it's random in terms of when it goes forwards or reverse. And at home I need to charge, therefore I need it to reverse.

[00:05:53]And then most of the time in a parking lot I'm pretty happy with where it parks.

[00:05:59]The only time I will take over is when it just goes into a loop and can't figure out how to get out of the parking lot.

[00:06:08]Now we're not seeing this so far, so we'll see.

[00:06:12]I am going to pull over again, see what it does.

[00:07:08]So what we're going to have to do cuz there's really no like obviously the difference between curbside, or sorry, I keep saying curbside cuz that's what it was.

[00:07:17]The difference between drop-off is obviously the car is just going to stop there.

[00:07:23]I'm assuming it's mostly for people who are like maybe using their Teslas as an Uber and you're just dropping someone off, you don't need to park, which is great.

[00:07:41]So it looks like it figured out pretty easily how to get out of here.

[00:07:53]No issues here.

[00:08:01]So, I guarantee you this entire drive will not have any issues because I'm recording.

[00:08:07]Most of my disengagements come obviously when I'm not recording.

[00:08:23]It's also a good test of Grok, how well it's doing.

[00:08:28]I'm hoping they can add a bit more integration with Grok in terms of telling it like which route you want to go to or just have a little more interaction with the navigation.

[00:08:39]It would also help that you can tell Grok if you want to like park backwards or forwards cuz right now you cannot do that.

[00:09:14]Okay, so we're just going to make a right over here.

[00:09:19]And it's also going to pull over.

[00:09:38]So again, pullover feature really useful when you're just dropping off passengers.

[00:09:45]So what we're going to do is we're just going to go to the Temperance cross street. Actually, let's Okay, let's navigate to a third-party charger and see if we're going to back up.

[00:10:07]I'm coming. I'm going to leave in.

[00:10:15]So let's see what our options are. So it's still only parking lot. We're not seeing charger there.

[00:10:28]So literally just cross the street, we're good.

[00:10:41]So charger's just up ahead on our left.

[00:10:45]And we are not not parking there not at all.

[00:10:53]All right, so that's a fail. So with the supercharger, it will park backwards into the supercharger, but obviously not with a third-party charger.

[00:11:01]Uh so from here, we're just going to go back in some residential.

[00:11:05]I'm just going to drop a pin.

[00:11:14]And what we're going to do is I'm going to see what the difference is cuz I think on the street parking or going to an address, it's going to give you the option for street and driveway.

[00:11:29]So we'll see if there's any difference between behavior with the driveway as or street and pull over.

[00:12:03]Figured out I was going the wrong way and fixed that.

[00:12:11]Okay, so we're just about to head to our drop pin.

[00:12:21]Now I got to change it. The The pop-up showed up. We're going to change that to street.

[00:12:42]What I should do is find a I need to find a street that has a fire hydrant and that there's no other option but park in front of the fire hydrant and see if there's a difference between parking on the street versus pull over, whether it will park in front of a fire hydrant or not.

[00:13:06]So, like this, no big deal.

[00:13:10]So, let's just go further down the street.

[00:13:22]And now we're going to change that to pull over.

[00:13:27]So, there's one at 53.

[00:13:44]So, technically you can't really park here because there's not enough room, but we are on pull over.

[00:13:51]So, that's the question is will pull over kind of ignore parking laws?

[00:14:05]So, there's a fire hydrant right here.

[00:14:07]So, I'm going to put the pin there.

[00:14:12]So, what I'm hoping it does is with pull over there shouldn't be any like it probably will just park in front of the fire hydrant.

[00:14:21]And then we're going to go back to the same spot and see if changing it to street parking will make it not park in front of the fire hydrant.

[00:14:36]So, yeah. We are parking right in front of the fire hydrant.

[00:14:43]So, what we're going to do is we're going to go back and do So, last time we parked right in front of the fire hydrant. Let's see if there's any sort of different behavior with street parking.

[00:15:14]So, we're going to do one more little test.

[00:15:17]I'm going to put the pin a little ahead than the last time.

[00:15:34]So, it seems that the on like residential street and pull over, same thing.

[00:15:40]There's no difference.

[00:15:41]Pull over would only be useful if you're going to a store.

[00:15:48]Okay, so I have the pin just over here.

[00:15:56]So, I was able to at least get it parked where I wanted to.

[00:15:59]Directly in front of the fire hydrant.

[00:16:04]Okay, change it to the street. Hopefully we got in between those two cars.

[00:16:24]Now, well, that's interesting.

[00:16:28]It did pull a bit forward from where the pin had dropped.

[00:16:33]And we are Let's look at the cameras.

[00:16:45]So, yeah. So, we are parked a bit ahead of the fire hydrant. Which means we are no longer in violation of the fire hydrant.

[00:16:55]So, interesting. So, maybe street parking doesn't does in fact avoid parking tickets for fire hydrants.

[00:17:06]Anyways, so yeah, that's interesting.
