[00:00:09]Have you ever noticed what happens when you pause during your child's favorite song? That little pause is so simple and doesn't take much effort on our part, but it actually makes a big difference for language development. When you stop right before a very familiar word, like twinkle, twinkle, little, they're not just listening anymore. Now they're anticipating and now they are an active player and an engaged player.

[00:00:32]This builds what we call a predictive language skills and it's not just a language or verbal skill, but it's also a cognitive one. It really helps build their ability to remember, process, and eventually use words on their own. Even if they're not saying the word yet, you may notice some eye contact, a smile, some kind of vocalization that lets you know that they are following along. And this whole exercise is not about testing them to see if they know the answer, but more so to invite them in to be part of the process.
