Storms Continue Sunday – Watching Monday for Strong Storm PotentialAdded:
Well, good Sunday morning. I'm Storm Team Meteorologist Michael Haynes. Still dealing with hit-and-miss thunderstorms developing mainly during the afternoon hours today. Uh for the remainder of the the morning into the afternoon, we do expect temperatures to reach the low and middle 80s under a mix of sun and clouds. Uh but as we progress, mainly the second half of the afternoon in East Alabama, that's where we'll likely initially have some thunderstorms developing capable producers of frequent lightning, heavy downpours. Not expecting anything severe today. And then into this evening, the the storms becoming a bit more numerous as we approach and pass sunset. So, a few of these could linger longer into the evening than what we've had over the past couple of days. And then uh later on tonight, early tomorrow morning, warm and muggy for your Monday. Uh we'll have the temperatures in the 70s, likely some areas of fog, similar to what we had earlier this morning. And then during the day tomorrow, a more organized complex of storms likely moving in from the northwest to the southeast throughout the afternoon. And that will bring a threat not only for the heavy downpours and uh frequent lightning, but also some gusty wind, perhaps some large hail tomorrow afternoon through tomorrow evening could be enough to prompt a few severe thunderstorm warnings. This is not an overwhelming threat, but again, we're talking about Monday afternoon and the early part of Monday evening.
On a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the greatest risk, this is a low-end one.
So, a a level one out of five severe weather risk due to the threat mainly for gusty wind and perhaps some hail large enough to prompt a few severe thunderstorm warnings as well. Now, outside of that, uh frequent lightning and heavy rainfall not only with the storms this afternoon, but also those that will come in tomorrow afternoon, tomorrow evening. Remember, those will be a little bit more potent compared to what we'll have today. And then things will change in a in a significant way. I think you'll you'll like these changes.
After all the unsettled, stormy, rainy weather we've had the past couple of weeks, we'll get some lower humidity, drier air moving in by the middle part of this week. It will feel very nice.
So, of all things, June, the beginning of June, will feel much better than the past couple of weeks of May. Hardly any opportunity for rain by Wednesday, Thursday, even Friday, next weekend, going back into a more traditional summer-like weather pattern. But, between now and then, once we get through today, the rain chance is decreasing and feeling very nice by the middle part of this upcoming work week.
So, enjoy that while you can. But, as you look forward to that, don't forget about the the hidden storms we'll have this afternoon. Then, that round of more organized storms coming in that could become strong by tomorrow afternoon for your Monday.
