In 1965, the physicist Luis Alvarez, who would later win a Nobel Prize, proposed using cosmic muons to search for hidden chambers in an Egyptian pyramid. What Alvarez lacked was the detector technology to make it precise. The kind of instrument a doctor uses to see inside a human body through a gap between the stones [music] and into the sealed corridor.
