When modifying vehicle exhaust systems, proper clearance from suspension components and surrounding parts is critical, as larger exhaust diameters can cause interference with shocks and other mechanical parts; additionally, exhaust systems without mufflers produce extremely loud noise that can damage nearby components and disturb others, making proper muffler installation essential for both safety and noise control.

Look What My 5" Exhaust DId To My Truck!!!Added:
What's up, guys?
I have Mr. Truck Stuff's toolbox in my trailer.
Now, I'm not sure how much this weighs, but let's just say you probably need four guys to move this toolbox. Now, this one is not as big, but it's pretty heavy.
And I would say this is mostly over the axles.
But, let me show you guys how much this make my truck squat with just these two toolboxes. Figure this trailer unloaded probably still has about 800 lb, maybe even 1,000 lb of hitch weight.
You guys see that?
Now, the truck is obviously leveled.
But, I would say that even with that much weight forward, I'm definitely not that bad. I mean, I would probably add airbags for this kind of weight, just to be honest with you.
But, I would have expected to be a little bit worse with those heavy toolboxes.
It's hard to believe that this truck has been tuned with weight loss program for 8 months, nearly 12,000 mi. I plan on doing a video really soon around that, just giving you guys some impressions.
But, in this video, I have to show you guys a self-inflicted wound that I created on my truck. And I saw this happening, and I'm like a tester. I I like to test things out, obviously, and I tested something that didn't make sense. Most of you guys know I took off my muffler, which was a bad idea. I will probably be putting something on really soon because yeah, this thing is too loud. And you guys see right here. We'll go over that in a second. But, look what we have today.
Josh needed some help moving his toolboxes.
So, I decided to go ahead and just hook up, help a brother out, and right now the trailer's pretty much empty, but his tool box, I don't know how heavy they were, but my goodness, they had this bad boy squatting. That's what you guys saw at the beginning of this video, but what happened to my rig?
Let's check it out.
Let's see if you can see it from this point of view. It's really windy and I'm trying to avoid it.
You guys see that?
My exhaust is like pointing up.
And what do you guys think it's pointing up at?
If you guess my bumper, then you are correct. So, this is what happens when your truck has weight loss program and your exhaust is pointing directly at your bumper.
We were going through California, Las Vegas. I believe that this really happened on the way home from Las Vegas because it was like 100Β° outside.
But on top of that, you know, we were going 6-7 hours, so we were non-stop driving, and we have this hot exhaust just melting away all the trimming here, and of course, this. And I mean, I don't know how hot this is, but it's probably still 8-900Β° for sure. And even right here, oh yeah, that guy up there needs to be replaced, too. So, self-inflicted wound, this is what happens when you unbolt your exhaust to see how loud it is without your muffler, and then you forget to tighten that clamp basically on the exhaust. So, I figured it out later, and then I tightened it, but I forgot to shift the exhaust, so that's why that happened.
But regardless of it, 5-in exhaust is probably not a good idea. Just letting you know now, if you have an AT4X ZR2 because fitment. So, the problem with it, and I'm showing it to you the best I can. Let me zoom in.
You guys see right there?
That's what happens when you get a 5-in exhaust with the Multimatics.
You have no clearance with that shock.
And it's part of the reason why with my McGaughy's kit, I'm hoping to get the M84s.
That way I would have more clearance with that exhaust. Now, I don't know if the 4-in exhaust is going to make a huge difference in sound, tone, etc. But, I will say this, you're going to need a muffler on whichever one you get.
These trucks are super, super loud.
And I only know that because I scared the crap out of somebody pulling out of my neighborhood, and I felt super bad about it. They were mad about it. I was sad about it, and that's why we have to talk about mufflers. So, I've been looking online, looking at some options there. I might even put my old one back on. I just don't feel like doing it, but I may have to do something soon because it's just too loud. Especially when you get on it. When you're just kind of cruising, you hear that really nice whistle sound, and that sounds good.
But, when you get on it, it just makes this like It's like a monster just woke up, and he didn't want to be woken up.
But, he's woke now, and he's upset. And that's what this truck sounds like with the exhaust without a muffler.
And keep in mind, I only have a 3 and 1/2-in downpipe because there's not a lot of clearance, and I believe there's not many options out there outside of the 3 and 1/2-in because if it's any bigger, you're going to have to bend it to get around the firewall. Now, I'm pretty sure if someone's doing competition, things like that, they might be cutting out their firewall, but I'm definitely not doing anything like that for a bigger downpipe. It's just not worth the money, not worth the hassle. So, yeah, I kept it 3 and 1/2-in exhaust.
Maybe in the future, if I'm up to it, I'll test out a 4-in exhaust system, but for now, I'm sticking with the 5-in because it's already on there. And it's not easy getting this exhaust out.
>> [clears throat] >> Now, let's go ahead and do a startup so you guys can hear the truck.
I know some of you guys have been asking about the sound, and I figured this is a good time to do it since nobody's really out here. So, here's a nice cold start up.
I'm going to let you guys hear that monster come out of this exhaust, too.
So, that sounds so good.
Absolutely amazing.
And now, let's go ahead and jump in.
Actually, you know what? Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on.
I want you guys to hear the turn off.
Here, hold on.
I'm hoping you guys can hear that. That turbo spool is no joke. And you can hear pretty far away, too.
It's even worse in the winter time.
Like, when it's really cold outside, if I have to leave my truck off outside without plugging it in, the start up is pretty cool.
But, I don't normally let my truck start up when it's cold, so yeah. I didn't have a chance to let you guys get my practice on that, but here we go. I'm going to let you guys hear the truck when I get on it. Like I said, it is really loud.
Too loud.
I don't know how some people can can can live with this every day.
If I was 18 years old again, I probably wouldn't care.
But, I'm almost 30 8 years old, almost 40, so it's time to start acting like it.
So, here we go.
So, you hear that whistle?
It sounds good.
All right, here we go.
That is insane.
Absolutely insane.
So, that is why I will tell you, if you're wondering if you need a muffler, just go ahead and get you one. It's way too loud. And I'm telling you, it's obnoxious. And when it's like 6:00 in the morning, yeah, not worth it.
But, I hope this video was helpful.
I didn't want to make it too long. I figured I would just answer that question really quickly.
Let's see if I can get that trailer in there on one shot.
Not too bad.
Not bad at all.
This trailer, I'm not going to lie, this trailer is so easy to back up to, by the way.
I can do it holding a camera. And that's simply because of the uh tongue. I extended the tongue on this trailer.
And if you are building your trailer from the factory, I highly recommend you get that extended tongue because it makes maneuvering a trailer like this super easy.
And it looks really nice, too.
You can make a 90Β° turn, and I think it would help with resale value, too, because not a lot of people do this. And if you have a class A or even a class B that you might be, you know, towing your trailer with, this will help with jackknifing, too.
