HOW To Install Jeep Dana 30 Spartan Locker | Game Changer

[00:00:04]First things first, jack up the front end and set your Jeep on jack stands.

[00:00:08]Then go ahead and remove the tires, brake calipers, brake rotors, and wheel bearing assembly. After that, disconnect your tie rod end on the one side and just let it hang. It gives you a lot more room to work with. After you do all that, undo all bolts on your diff cover and drain all the fluids. Okay, so I just popped open the diff, got to my gear set, and this is kind of the important part where you kind of have to uh keep these bearing caps on each side and don't mix them up. So, we'll go ahead and take those off.

[00:00:44]To get the carrier out of the diff, you might need to gently pry it back and forth. the carrier out. Let's bring her into the shop and start taking the spider gears out. So, I'm about to loosen off all the ring gear bolts.

[00:00:56]Before that, I did make a mark on the ring gear and the carrier itself. So, when it goes back on, it's on the right position. And this hand.

[00:01:17]All right, we got the ring gear off.

[00:01:19]Now, right here, there's a small hole and that's where the roll pin is. So, we're going to go ahead and punch that out. And so, we can take our center pin out and then take all the spider gears out of there.

[00:01:41]So, when you're doing this, you're going to want to see these shims here. You're going to want to make sure these come out with your gears, cuz with the Spartan locker, you don't reuse the shims.

[00:01:54]You can see right there, you can see it moving.

[00:01:58]See how that one stayed on? So, got to double check, make sure.

[00:02:03]The rest look like they're out.

[00:02:08]All right. So, we're ready to install the locker here. So, this is the locker right here. So, you can see it basically just ratcheting locker for a reason.

[00:02:18]So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to dip this in a little bit of grease here.

[00:02:23]Pop the bottom in.

[00:02:27]And remember, don't do not use the factory shims that come in your spider gears. You don't need them. And then I got this one already set up. As you can see, the roll pins are in.

[00:02:38]So, Spartan makes it really easy. So, you have a spring and a plunger. Stick the spring in. So, what you do is you just push it down, grab your little slide pin, and it holds it in place. So, it's got these little open-ended washers. You basically want to have the open end towards the gears. So, slide that in.

[00:02:57]Same thing. Let's put a little bit of grease on there. Slide her in so it holds it in place while we install. Then you want to feed it in here. Make sure you have your roll pin lined up just like that. Then afterwards, what you do is you basically just pull these pins out and the springs lock into each other. So, let's go ahead and install the top one. All right. So, it looks like you have to install the top gear first. So, we'll take this top one here.

[00:03:29]Slide that up into place.

[00:03:32]A little bit of grease to hold it. Now, we can install this bottom section. So, you stick it in there and kind of give it a twist. It falls right into place.

[00:03:44]They don't give you much room to work with. I don't know. Not at all.

[00:03:50]>> All right. So, a little bit of messing around. I think I figured out that you have to install the top piece first and then you can slide the bottom in.

[00:03:58]I'm going to pull these pins out so I can spin it to line up the center pin.

[00:04:15]Twist these. Boom. Clicks into place.

[00:04:24]She's in.

[00:04:25]>> Hell yeah, brother. All right, locker's in. You can see right here, we got all the pieces to the puzzle in there. So next, a lot of people check your clearances, but really what are you going to do if you need to, you know, if the clearance isn't bang on? So we're just going to say it's good. So after you do that, you can grab your center pin. Make sure you line the hole up with your roll pin and slide that in there. Once you have your center pin in, push it so it's flush. Then you can go ahead and grab your new roll pin that comes with the Spartan locker.

[00:05:04]All right. So, we got our roll pins started. Now, we're going to take a punch and just punch it in there.

[00:05:10]All right, roll pins in, center pins in.

[00:05:14]Now, we can start bolting in our ring gear. Again, take your ring gear.

[00:05:18]There's those two marks that I made with the paint pen.

[00:05:22]Find where it is. There it is.

[00:05:28]Line up the two marks.

[00:05:32]Okay, now that you have your ring gear installed and you line up those two dots like you made at the beginning, we're going to go ahead and install these little bolts here, but put some blue thread locker on there so they don't come loose.

[00:05:42]All right, so now we're going to move this over to the vice and we're going to torque these to 55 ft-lbs of torque.

[00:05:57]Now you can take your bearing caps. Make sure you put them on the same side. Not too sure if it matters, but we're going to do it. And that's it. Let's go put her back on the Jeep.

[00:06:25]After you have your carrier back installed, you can go ahead and slide your axle shafts back in and begin installing wheel bearing, brake rotor, brake calipers, tie rod, and tires.

[00:06:51]Are you done? Done. Done.

[00:06:52]>> Done. Done. Done. Locker is installed.
