Writing feels harder than hiking because we don't see our progress in the same way; to overcome this, writers should set daily goals and mark their accomplishments in the real world, which helps their brain recognize that completing difficult tasks leads to feelings of accomplishment rather than just more effort.

Why writing feels harder than hikingAdded:
When we're hiking, we get the evidence that we're making progress, even if it's slow. We can look back and see that we have moved down the trail. We have to give ourselves the same thing for our writing. Decide on your goal, on your mountain top for the day.
And then, when you've completed it, mark it. Give yourself evidence in the real world. And you'll start experiencing that feeling over and over of doing something hard and reaching the mountain top. Your brain will start to realize that doing the hard thing leads to a feeling of accomplishment, not just more slogging. And it'll get easier and easier to stick with it.
