NASA’s Mars Rover Just Found the Perfect Ingredients for Life!

[00:00:00]NASA Mars rover collected a rock sample, and inside it scientists found a chemical patterns that on Earth are often associated with ancient microbial life. Perseverance rover has been exploring Jezero crater on Mars, a place where scientists believe once contained an ancient lake and river delta billions of years ago. And there the rover collected a rock sample called Chiatura Falls. Inside that rock, scientists detected organic compound molecule, iron phosphate minerals, and a strange dark spots surrounded by lighter rings. And on Earth, similar textures are sometimes connected to microbial activity.

[00:00:30]Scientists are especially interested because organic molecules are the building block of life, and iron plus phosphate chemistry is important in water-rich environment. The rock also contained tiny mineral veins suggested that groundwater once flowed through it.

[00:00:43]NASA is being extremely careful because similar chemistry can also form without life, for example, volcanic reactions, hot water chemistry, and mineral interactions. And this can sometimes create biosignature-like patterns. But if future analysis confirms these biosignatures truly came from biology, then this discovery become the evidence of first microbial life existed on the Mars. Perseverance is currently storing the samples for future Mars mission so that Mars sample can return to Earth.
