Stripping the divine from Homer to fit a sterile scientific framework is a pedantic exercise that misses the fundamental essence of epic storytelling. This critique accurately highlights how Nolan’s obsession with realism can inadvertently drain the soul from a timeless masterpiece.

Nolan's Odyssey is Completely F****DAdded:
Odyssey has caused quite uh a stir. It looks like Nolan sold out. Uh I'll just say this quick. I don't think it's about awards. I think it's Nolan uh reinforcing the ideas that he believes in with Hollywood. I think he's trying to back up his industry. And as the big dog, he's like trying to give it some legitimacy and going, "No, no, I actually believe this stuff. this is, you know, and I've I've been quiet about it before, but you know, maybe he feels it's time to step up or that that's just what I think. That's what it looks like.
Could be totally wrong. Hope I am. Hope the Odyssey is [ __ ] awesome. But it's hard to to to think it's awesome when it lacks verilitude. Uh which is pretty important for a film. And uh we uh Leita Noo's latest picture um what's the what's the sister's name?
>> I don't remember. I always want to say chlamydia but uh >> I mean close enough.
>> Yeah, that's not it.
>> Is it chlamydia?
>> Shadow Clemenra.
>> I actually don't Odyssey is not one I'm super familiar with. I'm all been about >> Yeah, dude. Read it once, listen to it.
Uh Ian Mckllen does the uh audio book which is really good, >> but I'm not gonna pretend I'm an expert on this [ __ ] There'll be lots of experts coming up. though soon.
>> But I actually think that if this is successful that it's worse for Hollywood because then they go, will it work for him? You know, he put DI and everything and they made money. It will just make >> [ __ ] men's sorry >> double down even more.
>> Yeah. No, right.
>> If this hits, we're going to get acolyte season 2 and She-Hulk season two.
>> Okay. This need I I'll buy five tickets.
>> Oh, [ __ ] a. Let's go.
This needs to win.
>> Five seasons of Acolyte in a movie.
Dude, I could have had a threetory pool.
Be awesome. Uh, so it's Clemenria.
>> I'm not sure any of these are >> I don't know.
>> I love the chat. I don't trust you.
So, >> I have a reliable source saying, uh, grape sodia.
>> You better ask for Ghat.
>> Don't put this on the chat. No, >> I respect that. Actually, I'm not going to lie.
>> Uh, yeah. So, that's um, uh, Helen Troy's uh, sister or sister. We'll say sister.
>> Yeah.
Um, >> I think this, man, I God, I [ __ ] hate to bet against Nolan because I mean, listen, I think some of his movies are bad. Uh, Dark Knight Rises is bad. Is a very bad film.
>> Uh, Tenant >> Tenant. Tenant.
>> How dare you say that about, you know, Dark Knight Rises when it's biggest offender is not here to >> I know. I almost feel a little bad. The man who saw it 11 times to break his own record.
This is clearly the episode to decide that binge is is the wrong model as well.
>> What? No, no one's going to be against Okay, >> once and for all we can finally decide the >> I would say that but then he will call in from the road.
>> He will. But as as my sense was tingly as the older franchises that have been cultural footballs uh or punching bags uh have are dying out, right? We have two new ones this year. So, Harry Potter and this this is gonna be [ __ ] nuts when it comes out. Uh, it already is nuts. Uh, Met Medatron's the most pissed person on earth.
>> Going hot on it. I love it.
>> I I'm I'm not even kidding you. The more I learn about this film, the less and less I think it's going to be good. I just don't I can't see him threading this needle because there's not a needle to thread. It's just a bad idea. Like, I I I already said this earlier today.
Once I learned that he was adapting what Emily Wilson's adaptation of this >> it looks like he is >> that's it. It's over. Like there's nothing there's no justification at this point. The dialogue is going to be [ __ ] and he's not particularly he's not particularly great at dialogue anyways at least lately. And all of the things that Nolan has been doing over the years to go like push back on the audience about like no you guys don't understand.
I know what's best. I know how to make movies is how you get things like tenant and then you get you know Oppenheimer but like it kind of works because Oppenheimer is a real guy. There's only so much you can do with that and you know like even with that there's still like some weird communist stuff in there and he's kind of like threading that and kind of spinning around it. But it's like with this like this is all fiction.
It's all to him. It's all up to his interpretation. And if he's already starting with a bad adaptation and somebody sold him on that this is not going to go well. Listen, Oppenheimer wasn't a communist. He just [ __ ] him and hung out with them. They were his best friends. No, >> that's fine.
>> To to your point, Mike, I reckon there's going to be a lot of initial interest because it's null and everything like that. Yeah.
>> But if word of mouth then spreads around about what this movie is actually like and if it is actual dog crap, right? I could see it falling off and starting to fail. But >> the thing is though, with all the changes, even if it's an incredible film and we all come back and say it's amazing, you need to go and see it again. It's still not the Odyssey. It has been changed far too much from the original story to ever be that. This will just be Nolan's original adaptation. Which begs the question why he didn't just do that if he really wants to do a sort of ancient story with not gods but magical creatures which actually are all grounded in science or something which is what he normally does with this kind of thing.
>> Well, that's a big problem with this film, right? Because it's adapting a a very important legacy piece of literature. And so even if it's good, but it's not what it's meant to be, people are still going to be pissed off with it, right? And and that is like so much of what I've seen in the leadup and the trailers and and everything has really soured me on this film where I'm not sure I could enjoy it because I know what it's supposed to be. And seeing that it's not constantly is just, you know, >> that's Athena. Did they lighten her skin?
>> Might be just the color grading of the picture. Not really sure.
>> Who knows?
>> She looks tired. She looks like she just >> She looks tired and lighter.
>> All the footage to choose any picture to market this movie with her and it's all one expression. It's the meme expression that everyone uses for >> that Tessa Thompson meme. Just replace it with Zeniah now.
>> Yeah. So, either this is someone taking the piss or that she actually doesn't make another expression throughout the entire movie. I I am not totally convinced that the gods aren't going to be things like just people they find on the journey or visions of people he maybe accidentally killed as in his time as you know a warrior and stuff. So I don't know man that >> why if he wanted to do all this stuff why didn't he just make a oh brother where art thou you know like just make an adaptation just like you know take the story and make it your own but don't call it the Odyssey because Odin they have to deconstruct this stuff >> I know I know >> they have to deconstruct the mythos they have to you know >> well that's what he's he has said that they won't be gods this will be what people that don't understand how the world works assume like their explanation for it so oh yeah The sea must be angry at me cuz it's killing me.
It must be a god that did it. So yeah, there won't actually be, as in the story, gods walking around on Earth, literally.
>> But they have minotaurs in this.
>> I was going to say, but they actually have in it.
>> Yeah. I >> Yeah, but they're just monsters. They're not.
>> They're just going to be all explainable things. Like >> like imagine if a dinosaur walked around in this kind of time, they'd be like, "Oh my god, a magical creature."
>> Mhm.
>> I don't know. Like Like when you have a dinosaur, that is a legitimate fantasy creature right there. to me like you know magical gods isn't that far of a step beyond that. Uh and so to say like no we need to make this grounded. Gods are just too unrealistic. Oh we have minotaurs. It's like what?
>> There there was a a Twitter post from a couple weeks ago that talked about Nolan and everything he does is is grounded in causality. And if he made a he made a movie about Santa Claus, he would explain how the chimneys are actually made for him to go into and that the the deer's flight is actually some, you know, he he would find some scientific explanation for it.
>> Ah, well, hey, it's over. Nolan is done.
He's cooked. He's gonna flop. Washed.
