[00:00:00]Welcome, welcome, ladies and gentlemen.

[00:00:02]Tonight, tonight is is a stream that I've been preparing for preparing months for since well, can't remember how long, but hey, here we are just a month, well, almost a month before it this movie's 30th anniversary.

[00:00:21]Disney's core 90s animated classic, Hunchback Notredam.

[00:00:28]Yeah, it was quite quite a a phenomenal and marvelous movie. Back then, back when Eisner was in charge, he may have had some stumbles at the box office, but overall, his movies were amazing. And he captured the magic of handdrawn animation, something that folks in Hollywood can't do now because of the studios pushing more of their attention on using AI instead. I mean, you can't barely even capture the the actual magic and the the emotion of certain characters without having it done handdrawn style.

[00:01:07]It's kind of Yeah, it's it fe it stars the hunchback who is who is kind of a dwarf that kind of looks ugly who goes by the name Quasimoto along with a a beautiful and dazzling gypsy named Desmeralda, his fellow gargoyles who live with him up in the tower along with an handsome prince, a handsome captain named Feebis, and an evil corrupt judge known as Frodo, who is the main villain of this film.

[00:01:47]>> Yeah, happy Wednesday. So, how would So, what was your experience when you first saw this movie, Emily?

[00:01:54]>> I was amazed by the really cool artistic styles to the film.

[00:02:00]>> Yeah, me too.

[00:02:02]Yeah, it captured a lot of heart and a lot of love back then. Yeah, even with Quasimoto who some who we would all view as a someone who is disabled or kind of someone who is different from most individuals who's been raised for 20 years up in the tower by the man that killed his mother back when he was just a baby, which is quite tragic back then.

[00:03:01]I don't remember a lot of it. I do remember the the girl when I went back to do some review on it. I go, "Geez, she looks a lot like um >> yeah, gorgeous kind of but can't tell if she's it can't tell if she's a Desi or Latina or just a >> or someone from Bulgaria with special ethnic background.

[00:03:22]>> But she she was voiced by Bruce Willis's first wife, Demi Moore.

[00:03:29]I remember when she was Sorry, >> go ahead.

[00:03:32]>> I remember when I was a kid and she was featured a lot on the Disney princess stuff.

[00:03:39]>> Yeah.

[00:03:40]Yeah.

[00:03:41]>> She reminds me of Princess Jasmine from the Zachary Levi Aladdin. That was the first thing that I thought when I saw her picture when I was reviewing.

[00:03:55]>> Yeah, same here.

[00:03:58]Yeah. And even though even though the person who voiced her was white, at least the voice fit well for her for the character.

[00:04:06]>> Yeah. You can't tell that usually when they're when they're speaking from a sound booth.

[00:04:14]>> Yep.

[00:04:17]Yep. Yeah. I was also hoping to see to try to get a hold of Esmeralda 2003 to come and join, but sadly she hasn't been able to get in touch. because of where she is right now in college. Oh, and but luckily I've got I'm luckily we've got Sidi Stein. Hey, how's it going?

[00:04:38]>> Hi. Sorry go live tonight. She's still recovering from surgery. I'm not sure if she'll she and Andy will be going live again tomorrow or or until I don't know next two weeks or so. I mean, depending on how long the how long the pain holds out.

[00:05:00]>> Oh, no problem. I just uh you know, my computer decides to update right after I get done uh on with Badgers stream. So, gotta love that.

[00:05:12]>> Yeah, kind of. Yeah, kind of happened back when I was doing Legend of Zelda. I was in a tight situation where I was feel like I was going to have to cancel my stream because of one of my laptops not working and freezing. But I was lucky to have a backup planned and I had to use that one to to do the stream with Katie and Peter on or with along with Cyrex and others. But anyway, back to the topic at hand. Here is the evil.

[00:05:41]Here's the evil villain known as Froolo, the main villain of the of this film.

[00:05:48]based on the antagonist from the from the dark adaptation itself that was made by the back in the late centuries hundreds of years ago. He was an evil judge who wanted to rid the rid the entire city of Paris of all gypsies man which is quite segregational and he was quite a dictator >> even though he was a judge.

[00:06:17]>> Very >> Tony Jay did a great job voicing him back then three years ago.

[00:06:24]>> Yeah, I s I remember seeing it just once in theaters.

[00:06:29]Man, it was great though. Fun experience. Froolo was right after killing Quasi mother. Froolo Flo was stopped by a local arch deacon who who convinced him to take the to take Quasi as his own after and he was but and he was more than willing to raise him up in the clock to up in the bell tower of Notraam.

[00:06:54]Um well and in the arch deacon's care.

[00:07:00]Yeah. And as well as seeing some you good as well as looking at Pquazi took good use to him when the time came when his moment came.

[00:07:11]that as time moved on.

[00:07:15]Yeah.

[00:07:22]As time moved on, Quasi grew up in the tower while Froolo helped to ra did his part to raise and and educate him on his end.

[00:07:34]As you can see here, this is this is their lunch break while Froolo was teaching Quasimoto the alphabet and what and what each word start and what letter each word starts with as he went along.

[00:07:48]Right up until he came to the word festival. Oh, and the weirdest part is is that in the book his own mother was willing to abandon him and adopt as morala. Judge Froolo even thought he was a terrible dad. actually took the man out of kind out of the kindness of his heart. Huh. Interesting.

[00:08:10]Never thought of that.

[00:08:12]Yeah. But I did hear that it was a tra.

[00:08:15]But I do know that the the original adaptation in the book was dark. That's what I learned.

[00:08:29]>> Yeah. Right. when yeah Fr Froolo was doing what it takes to make sure Quasi stayed in the tower while looking out at the city of Paris and they and there was plenty and there was plenty of musicals to go around at this Yeah, there was plenty of musicals to go around too at the same time.

[00:08:58]Yeah, Froolo is a cunning one.

[00:09:02]But even he even helped Quasi built this this miniature set of the city of Paris, which is actually the town square standing right in front of the Notraam.

[00:09:15]Have you guys ever tried to invent one of your own like that back back when you were young?

[00:09:21]>> Oh, build a model like that. Yeah, this Yeah, this what you see right here in this picture.

[00:09:31]>> Yeah, go ahead.

[00:09:32]>> I built planes and ships. I didn't really do any uh city building. Although I'm always uh when I went into the municipal government, they had a big uh layout of the city and I was like, "Wow, it must have took forever for them to put that together.

[00:09:53]That looks really cool.

[00:09:58]>> Haven't tried yet, but this is something that would be fun to work on.

[00:10:04]>> Yeah, I used to create figurines of of bad guys who worked for the Joker in the Dark Night movie that were on that that were in that trailer to the truck that they were driving while chasing Harvey in the streets of Chicago, which is my which was my favorite part of the film.

[00:10:21]Yeah.

[00:10:24]Yeah.

[00:10:25]Yeah. Fr. Yeah. Hercules was after Hunchback of Notraam. Each Disney is quite was well known back then for releasing every animated theatrical movie every year, once every year.

[00:10:42]up up until well somewhere in the 2000s or back when we came in soon further up until 2009.

[00:10:54]Still, it's a shame that I dumped the the 2D animation studio in favor of AI and stuff. I mean, >> yeah, >> look at the I mean, it's so great. More real and emotional.

[00:11:07]>> Yeah. Handdrawn brings out actual magic.

[00:11:11]Yeah, it's just a shortcut.

[00:11:14]>> I love Disney animation.

[00:11:16]>> Yep.

[00:11:19]>> All the way back to Lady in the [ __ ] That was my first experience with it.

[00:11:25]>> Yep. And we went over that a year ago, >> too, Anthony.

[00:11:30]>> Yeah, I remember that. Yeah.

[00:11:38]>> Yeah. One of my first uh movies that I can remember is uh actually Robin Hood, >> the animated the animated version.

[00:11:48]>> Ah yeah, that too. you know, and uh my parents uh we went to, you know, I'm a little bit older, so I we went to Disney World, one of the first like vacations that I ever remember. and how few of the the the characters unlike today, you know, Robin Hood and Little John and Mickey Mouse and, you know, those characters were all there, but basically the only other one was Orangeburn, which is like the mascot of Florida and Orlando, was actually in the Disney parks.

[00:12:27]>> Yeah. And speaking of which, I can't believe they never even bothered to build an attraction based on Hunchback of Notraam in Epcot. I mean, they do have they have the Notraam um building there and they could have just had used it as an attraction rather than >> rather than finding excuses not to.

[00:12:48]I mean, ideology really sucks sometimes.

[00:12:53]And you have to wonder if it has everything to do with also why they haven't even done a live adaptation for this movie yet, which I don't even which I don't think even matters at this moment. Oh, Esmeralda is the only character you see at Disney parks. Huh?

[00:13:47]>> Yeah. I had to look it up just because we talked about that for a second of not having anything. I I just my autism hit me. We I had to look it up. The only thing they've ever had is a stain show at Disneyland Paris and in Disneyland, California when this movie came out.

[00:14:27]>> Oh yeah, >> live action but then that got cancelled.

[00:14:31]>> Yeah, I heard Emily >> they were looking to cast him for that but yeah clearly the the story to the Hunchback of Notredam was kind of dark.

[00:14:40]Yeah, >> based on where the direction this animated film went, it you would have to you wonder why they haven't even green lit one based on the animated film just yet.

[00:14:55]>> Still still you got also give credit to where credit is due. I mean Notraam this I mean the setting of this movie takes place before the Eiffel Tower was built. I mean you don't even see the Eiffel Tower till a century or decades later on from there.

[00:15:27]>> Yeah. And here are the gargoyles that Quasi is made friends with up in the tower.

[00:15:36]These guys are funny.

[00:15:38]>> Yeah.

[00:15:39]>> Yeah. One of them right here, this guy named Hugo, he was voiced by George Castanzo, actor from from the Seinfeld show.

[00:15:48]>> Oh, yeah.

[00:15:50]>> Yeah. It's amazing, too. Yeah. He was quite hilarious, too. Plenty of ouchy to go around in that one.

[00:15:59]>> Yeah.

[00:16:01]Yeah. Of course, Constant, of course, the actor was still playing his role as George at the time and decided to take some, it was nice of him to take a break to to do some voice over this thing.

[00:16:18]>> Costanza, I think that was his name.

[00:16:25]>> Yeah.

[00:16:28]Yeah. Fuzzy and the gargoyles. Quite a fun group.

[00:16:34]>> Fun Disney psychics. Those of girls are all >> Yeah.

[00:16:39]>> Yeah. As Moralda has a friend had a friend, too. Her her coach.

[00:16:44]>> Oh, yeah. I was sad to go. Is adorable.

[00:16:48]>> Yep.

[00:16:50]Yep. This is her se this is her entrance. This is her opening scene.

[00:16:55]I wonder if the same artist that did her did the uh Aladdin girl, Princess Jasmine.

[00:17:03]>> Yeah, that's a good question, >> man. If only, man, I wish Emeralda 2003 would have come to join us.

[00:17:12]Man, it's Yeah, it's part of the reason why I decided to post the stream tonight instead of next month on the 17th, which is the week the leading up to the 30th anniversary of this animated feature.

[00:17:27]>> You got to give them credit for the animation work and designs.

[00:17:32]Yeah, her her eyes are green as emeralds, which definitely fits her name as Moralda.

[00:17:40]And she does a t uses a temper. Ah, hi there, voice.

[00:17:57]Yeah. Esmeralda kind of resembles Jasmine, but I can't even tell if she's in Indian or Latina, but she is she was is part of European culture. And Bulgaria is also known for having gypsies of her kind as well. When you look at the Romy people, of course, out on the street.

[00:18:19]Yeah, of course. Out on the streets, as Morel as Moralda and her goat and her and her pet goat were doing some good dancing, but but then they were soon as they were confronted by two guards, Captain Feebas came in.

[00:18:38]Yeah, Captain Feebas stepped in to help Esmeralda escape while looking to get their attention on helping him find the palace of justice.

[00:18:48]And what what did he say to his horse that kind of you know what he said to his horse when he was looking to get when he stopped the guards from going after Moralda?

[00:19:01]>> Is that the what a woman comment?

[00:19:04]>> No. No. In this scene where where we first Yeah. When he runs into those two cards.

[00:19:12]Yeah. He says, "Achilles, sit."

[00:19:18]>> Yeah. Achilles. That's the name of his horse.

[00:19:26]>> Yeah. Achilles is the name of his horse.

[00:19:29]He had him sit on that brutish guard hard. And while the and while the fat one was about to draw his sword, Feebas threw his out, which was also recognition that he was captain.

[00:19:47]>> Yeah, Peep is in the book was actually a antagonist, but here I'm glad he made him a good guy. I mean, it is a children's anime version of >> Yeah.

[00:20:02]>> Yeah. Yeah, he sure he sure admired Esmeralda when he first met when he first saw her.

[00:20:10]Huh. Most iconic part of this movie in my opinion will always be Hellfire.

[00:20:15]Yeah. Yeah, that's the Froolo song, which we'll get to later on.

[00:20:21]>> I remember that.

[00:20:26]>> The bad guy looks extra devilish while he's singing that song.

[00:20:31]>> Yeah. Yep. And here is where Froolo and Feebas meet while he while the while the villain himself discusses his sinister plan and with Feebis that he wants to wreck the city of gypsies.

[00:20:44]And yeah, it was kind of weird for Feebis to be called out of totent, which is quite insane, too.

[00:20:57]>> Yeah.

[00:20:59]>> Yeah. Yeah, Froolo was quite fear was quite a feared individual when bringing Feebis up to his up to his tower to discuss what he had in mind for him. Of course, he brought of course he brought Feebis with him to the feast festival of fools to to help show him what he what they're what he and his and his campaign are dealing with.

[00:21:30]And and now we enter Festival of Fools.

[00:21:37]Yep.

[00:21:39]Yeah. And this scene, Quasi was looking to sneak out of the tower to to to attend the festival, but little to it but little did he not realize that that the ropes were not so secure that he ended up getting spotted out in the open. Yeah, it was his first time out out of the tower and he was definitely scared at first when he especially when he ran into this guy.

[00:22:06]Oh, he's so adorable. Happy in that picture.

[00:22:13]>> Yeah. I don't know what he mean, but yep. Yeah. Here. Yeah. I can't tell who the name of this guy is, but man, he sure scared the heck out of Quasi when he when he ran into him.

[00:22:35]But he was also the narrator at first.

[00:22:43]>> Yeah. And also this also as Moralda was in the dressing room when Clausy ended up crashing down into her tent.

[00:22:54]She was getting dressed up and ready for it.

[00:23:00]Yeah. And she thought Quasi was wearing a ma face was a mask at first, which was which is kind of it's kind of strange though that she had to end up learning the hard way when >> Yeah.

[00:23:18]>> when she when she touched him thinking that it was a mess.

[00:23:25]But hey, it looked Yeah. Festival was fools was quite fun at first. She was quite a dancer as well. Ah, and look over here. There's what I was telling you guys earlier.

[00:23:41]>> Guard.

[00:23:45]>> He's like the horse is like the ' 90s version of the horse from Tangled.

[00:23:51]>> Ah, yeah. Yeah. There's a lot of design similarities.

[00:23:56]>> Yeah. There have been plenty of horses used in plenty of Disney animated movies since since Snow White.

[00:24:09]>> Yeah. But also when Esmeralda came out like magic, man, she was really glamouring hot and gorgeous that she even when she came into physical contact with Frodo was definitely the start of when she definitely came into contact with Frodo, it was definitely the start of his obsession with the gypsy woman. I mean, right here, see right there? This is where F this is the where Froolo started becoming obsessed with Esmeralda when she came up to him in that glamorous chest and started you know seducing him with her with her groove and her scarf. Man, man, it really drove him mad.

[00:25:01]But she's quite a damsel and a good spirited woman.

[00:25:08]Yeah.

[00:25:10]Yeah. You got to also be careful too when you're out with your woman.

[00:25:14]Wouldn't want her getting herself into close contact with any strange weirdos or anything out there. But als but also while while the party but also as the party was about to conclude Yeah. the guards Yeah.

[00:25:32]Yeah. The guards started to get mean with Quasi and and they started throwing tomato tomatoes at him after everyone else in the crowd were greeting him with flowers. Flowers. Man, Froolo wanted to teach Quasi a lesson for disobeying his orders.

[00:25:51]Man, that was cruel.

[00:25:58]Yeah.

[00:26:02]Poor Quasimo.

[00:26:04]>> Yeah. Poor guy. Wow, >> man. You have to wonder.

[00:26:11]>> Made a spectacle of him.

[00:26:13]>> Definitely.

[00:26:16]Yeah. This this movie was was was kind of like the first of many to actually show children at all and people of all ages of what on on what certain of what stuff like this would be like.

[00:26:31]Wow. Even though this was feast of fools, it's still the same as actual torture.

[00:26:37]>> Well, and you know, the thing is is in the books he was actually whipped.

[00:26:42]It wasn't, >> you know, they they toned it down a bit >> for uh Disney movie, but in the books, he was actually chained up and whipped.

[00:26:54]>> Wow.

[00:26:57]My god. Yeah, >> that's the, you know, welcome to the Middle Ages for you.

[00:27:05]>> Dang. You don't say.

[00:27:10]Good thing they Good. Yeah. At least they were At least they were more reasonable back then.

[00:27:17]Unlike Warner Brothers and how they've been watering down their projects over at DC and other stuff lately.

[00:27:29]They obviously had no form. They were just about clearly the scum of executives at Warner Brothers were all about getting on people's nerves just to make out of greed and as well as evil deep state planning. But Disney back in the 90s was, you know, 10 years before Arer came along to start destroying everything and robbing all of his legacy. At least they at least they had a plan for when doing each project.

[00:28:02]Yeah. Well, and that's the thing even, you know, in it started really kind of turning like that early 2005ish, but Disney, you know, they they didn't go full on like dark, but they did show the darker side of humanity in some of these movies, you know, and then you get even earlier and you've got movies like The Dark Crystal and Black Hole and stuff that got very dark. Yeah.

[00:28:34]>> And speaking of a dark movie that's just finally hitting um Disney Plus is the Ray Bradberry story, Something Wicked This Way Comes.

[00:28:44]So, that'll be something you'll definitely have to watch.

[00:28:48]>> Wow.

[00:28:50]Yeah. Yeah. This mo Yeah.

[00:28:53]Yeah. Most of each of each of the 90s animated Disney classics, which which I see as the absolute best of all animated features, they were they did have quite a lot of dark elements in it.

[00:29:09]>> Luckily, there's some luckily it brought some hope and relief to to the characters in each in each part, especially when here when Esmeralda came to rescue Quasi.

[00:29:23]>> Yeah. Well, that's the thing. Yeah, these movies had stakes. There were there were actual consequences in dire situations unlike a lot of the movies today. I mean, you know, you go back with like this Hunchback of Notream.

[00:29:37]You've got this cruel medieval, you know, basically judge, you know, church leader that's trying to manipulate, you know, you look at Tarzan, you look at, you know, a lot of these movies, they actually had stakes and consequences >> and they didn't dumb things down for kids.

[00:30:01]>> Yeah. Unlike a lot of the movies today, I mean, you know, some some of these movies today, what someone makes a wish and it doesn't turn out right, those are the stakes and there's no real consequences on it. That last, you know, and then Yeah.

[00:30:22]>> So, kids aren't stupid, you know, and and if you treat them that way, then they will be.

[00:30:30]Yeah. Yeah. And many of these and many of the issues that have been going on in Disney since Higer showed up, they were never mis they were never they were never mistakes and regular issues back in back in the old days because because some of the issue production issues nowadays are are being done literally on purpose by these by these animals running Hollywood.

[00:30:56]>> Yeah, they are. And they're just like the villains of the of the Disney films too, especially Brolo.

[00:31:03]>> And I mean, mind you, just production-wise with movies with Disney, there's so much bulk and so much just over cost. I mean, even at the time, this movie with it being handdrawn animated was only a little over $70 million.

[00:31:27]and it made like almost 400.

[00:31:33]>> So, and that's 30 years ago.

[00:31:37]>> Yeah.

[00:31:37]>> So, if you would look at it, you know, by today's price standards, it would be, you know, still relatively low compared to some of the ones that are coming out with now. I mean, I think what the quote unquote reported cost of Toy Story coming out is almost $300 million.

[00:32:03]>> And you know, it's probably well more than that.

[00:32:08]>> Yeah. If you ask me, I Yeah, if you ask me, if Disney regime were smart and are not literally trying to kill the entire movie industry, they should also consider re-releasing this animated feature. I mean, they already passed they already turned down the opportunity to re-release Big Trouble in Little China on its 40th anniversary back in February.

[00:32:29]>> All because they're all because they're ide they're too ideological to do that.

[00:32:36]Go ahead.

[00:32:42]>> One of my favorite movies, Big Trouble in Little China. I'd have gone to the theater to see that again.

[00:32:49]Yeah, I covered that early earlier this year back in February, >> three months ago.

[00:32:59]>> Yeah. I kind of think if they want to save their industry, they're going to have to go back to making familyfriendly movies and uh that people will love as a family to get back to to uh raking in the bigger money because they don't seem to be too worried about not breaking even on their uh productions.

[00:33:26]>> Yeah. Well, and I mean in just reigning in these budgets, >> I mean, you've got movies like uh what is it? Obsession.

[00:33:35]>> The movie cost what around a million dollars and it's it it will probably break the $100 million mark. I mean, I know it's horror and that's kind of a different, you know, >> genre >> genre and kind of a different animal all in itself, >> but you know, these overinfl in big movies and movies like, you know, animated, >> yeah, >> you're able to do it. But, you know, when you have, you know, intimacy, you know, five intimacy coordinators and, you know, >> Yeah, I know.

[00:34:17]>> excess of this and that, you know, on a on a movie set and then all this digital work that couldn't been done with practical effects for, you know, a third of the time and and a quarter of the cost.

[00:34:33]>> Yeah, I know.

[00:34:34]>> Yeah.

[00:34:35]>> Yeah. part and that they're wasting too much of the budget paying people on social media to to to justify that what they're doing that is wrong especially over at WB when when they got pe people being bought out not to not give a damn about super the other villains in Superman's rogues gallery I mean how could they be DC fans to not give a damn about what we haven't seen yet in live action >> in 20 plus years since the since Steve Ross dish sabotaged stage vision just from holding other characters from the source material hostage and ripping us off with garbage they made up from scratch last minute while rushing the movies in the process.

[00:35:17]>> Yeah, that's where it all that's where all everything wrong with Hollywood started to me guys.

[00:35:24]>> Yeah. and this bait and switch mentality and all this in negquence and ignorance from these from these people who run these things all because of who or who they feel that matters more to them and then the majority of folks it's just disgusting >> anyway.

[00:35:41]>> Well, yeah. And to tie it back in kind of with the with the uh you know the movie itself and Froolo, you know, it's these people think they know better than you >> and you can control what you see, what you do, you know?

[00:36:01]>> So, I mean that's and that's kind of like what this movie is about to degree, you know, >> Yeah. And I'm glad we actually got to rewatch this and do it tonight cuz yeah, this movie actually nailed it compared to much of what we've been getting out even and and I have to be honest and I hope some of Snider's followers do forgive me for this but this movie I would definitely animated feature of Hunchback of Not I would definitely watch more and more over and over again over Rebel Moon. I mean, >> yeah. I mean, Reppel Moon kind of seemed a little little forced there. Even though I even though I enjoyed watching Zach's works on Reppel Moon just before meeting up with the before meeting up with the Doulies and and the Syndicate Network two years ago, I was into it cuz I because I admired Zack for his work.

[00:36:56]Yeah. Even though the movie fought because he was forced to use a villain that was already used in live action Superman movies, at least he did not disappoint.

[00:37:07]>> Yeah. And it showed potential that we would have a solid universe. But clearly it's all because of how dumb people are treating people at the studio like dogs instead of actual human beings. You wonder why everything is so goddamn broken today. Especially when there's no telling whether or not an actual demon is out there giving the orars who is pretty much anchored somewhere in the Middle East where no one wants to in a country no one wants to hold accountable.

[00:37:37]Anyway, as you see here, as Merlo was Steph did a great standing up to the demon that Froolo was acting acting as acting like towards Quasi and this scene, having his guards and people torture him and leave him to suffer humiliation on that round table.

[00:37:57]Man, she was now here or she did the right thing. And this is how and this is exactly how how it works, folks.

[00:38:06]standing up to power and cruel and tyranny.

[00:41:02]However, Feebis was not like Froolo and the other guys. He was looking to earn her affection and her trust.

[00:41:13]And when Froolo showed up, he declared sanctuary for her to make sure to make sure she was safe and from execution and harm even though she didn't want to to to declare sanctuary cuz she wasn't afraid of Froolo.

[00:41:33]Mhm.

[00:41:36]>> But man, Froolo was quite was quite a pedophile when he started raping her like this.

[00:41:44]>> The way he held her, my god.

[00:41:48]Wow. Another thing that probably made Disney feel so uncomfortable about this movie now as of today.

[00:41:57]I mean, I would certainly not feel comfortable about someone him at that age getting so personal with a woman like her at this age.

[00:48:39]This has taken a lot of wood to uh >> yeah after coming in close physical contact with Esmeralda at the festival and inside the church Froolo's obsession with her got started to cor started getting more corrosive and which means worse and it that he started singing in song obsessing obsessing about her that he would e that she would either marry him or burn in the fire and He was also informed about her escape by one of the guards in the scene.

[00:49:15]Man, he was so and the guy was so delusional for a person with so much power. You know, it really corrupts people and it definitely corrupted his role big time before soon as he took position to power as judge.

[00:49:34]>> I mean, yeah.

[00:49:39]Yeah. Yeah. And the next day.

[00:49:46]Yeah. He next day he and his guard started to burn par started burning the city, setting up buildings off in flames.

[00:49:58]Yeah, he was. Yeah, he was definitely a terrorist in that and a and a terror and a tyrant for doing so.

[00:50:08]Yeah, it's precisely what you would see out of out of such people in positions of power.

[00:51:58]Man, he was man while keeping the family locked up at the same time. That is definitely evil.

[00:52:24]Yeah. Febus ended up falling into the river after he got hit by one of the arrows and Esmeralda brought him to back to the bell tower for Quasi to look to tend.

[00:52:57]Wow. I can't seem to find it. Yeah. But before before that, however, there ar Yeah. Like gargoyles did their song.

[00:53:13]Yeah. Where they were what praising Quasi for having as Moralda as a friend.

[00:54:44]>> Yeah. He was in I don't know if you guys remember he played Jim in a TV show that ran for like ever. Murphy Brown.

[00:54:57]Yeah. Where it was like the news channel and he basically was like the human version of the Muppets Eagle.

[00:55:10]He he literally was like the human version of of that that kind of attitude and that you know big stick out your chest voice. But yeah, he was he's been in a ton of stuff. And then actually the actress that played um the old Gargoyle was around like a lot in the 40s and 50s movies.

[00:55:44]Yeah. Soon as soon as Esmeralda had Febus brought up to the tower to help patch him of his wounds, he he the two of them shared their first kiss in this scene. It got quasi emotional at first, feeling like he was all alone, but later on he was able to cope with it as he learned more and more and more onward.

[00:56:06]Well, But then of course Froolo came up, but then Froolo came along after they after they got out and of course Quasi had to hide FE as as Froolo came in came up to the tower.

[00:56:36]Yeah.

[00:56:42]Man, this isn't it.

[00:56:44]Wow. Hard to find specific scenes, but Rolo had a f telling Quasi that he knew he helped her escape and he kind of burned that figurine that Quasi made.

[00:57:01]Yeah. Froolo rage.

[00:57:05]Yeah, this was a really dark scene. It's Yep.

[00:57:18]Yeah. Froolo was starting out with his usuals, bringing a treat to Quasi, but then when he discovers the figurine, that's when he starts to lose his temper burn and burned it up.

[00:57:37]And he and he got quas and he started to gaslight to Quasi that Esmeralda's kindness was cunning. But then he leaves him pretending that he that he found the court of miracles which he hadn't yet.

[00:57:59]Next after that, Feebas and Quasi got out of left the to left the Notraam Tower and met below outside the cathedral as they as they started as they decided to work together to find Esmeralda and the Court of Miracles to warn the gypsies that Froolo and the guards were coming for them.

[00:58:21]This is the scene where they argue up over the over that necklace that Esmeralda gave Quasi earlier in the movie that it was that was like done in the form of a map.

[00:58:37]>> H >> Yeah.

[00:58:41]Yeah, it's true.

[00:58:46]>> Yeah. Yeah. It was like a map that would take them to where they need to. It would it's it would help them find the court of miracles.

[00:59:10]Fun fact, uh Kevin Klene played uh two different Disney characters in movies.

[00:59:46]Anyway, soon as these guys found the court of miracles, they they they discovered the entrance within a cough within a casket that was laid in right out in front of a pedestal of a tombstone out in the graveyard east of the t east of the church.

[01:00:06]Inside there were skeletons, but but in reality they were the gypsies hiding in plain sight within using the darkness for cover on their disguises.

[01:00:23]>> Yeah. They were taken hostage by them.

[01:00:28]Ah, yeah.

[01:00:34]Yeah. This 28-year-old animated movie's dark original story is a problem for today's live action version. Yeah, that would explain why they didn't do a live Disney movie for this thing yet.

[01:00:52]>> Well, apparently Tangled is their next uh venture for live action. So, we'll still be waiting for a few of these.

[01:01:39]Soon as they warned them about Froolo, they tried to get everyone out, but they were too late when the Dard showed up and started taking everybody prisoner.

[01:01:53]Man, Froo was cunning as well.

[01:02:06]Yeah. Later on in the movie.

[01:02:09]Yeah. After they were taken, Quasi was locked up in chained up at the tower.

[01:02:15]>> Well, well, he was preparing to burn Asmeralda in front of the whole town.

[01:02:19]And man, he was definitely losing it when he was staring at her.

[01:02:24]Okay.

[01:02:27]>> That's a creepy look.

[01:02:28]>> Yeah.

[01:02:29]>> Yeah. This was kind of a deviation a little bit from the uh the actual book itself also because in the book um Ezralda was to hang. So they kind of were just going with that whole fire, you know, from him talking to the spirit in the fireplace and that kind of stuff.

[01:02:51]So >> yeah, >> I think the hanging scene would have would have almost been a little more uh >> diabolical.

[01:03:00]>> Yeah.

[01:03:05]>> Yeah. Luckily for Esmeralda Quasi rescued her from Froo and brought her back up onto the Notraam and shouted sanctuary.

[01:03:16]Sanctuary.

[01:03:19]Yep. That was fun.

[01:03:26]Yeah.

[01:03:29]>> Yeah. And then a battle between the people and the and the guards started started to unfold.

[01:03:42]>> Yeah.

[01:03:59]Hang on, folks. Let me just find Hang on. I'm going to see if I can find >> Yeah. And and actually that that line, the sanctuary line was kind of where everybody memes it from or everybody you hear everybody say it was from the 1923 L Cheney movie >> Hunchback of Notream.

[01:04:27]That's where you see where he's way more disfigured and it's the black and white and him, you know, carrying her and crawling up the wall. That's, you know, and then the delivery of that line came from that movie.

[01:04:44]>> It's kind of what every you, >> you know, kind of what everybody uses.

[01:04:56]Yeah, >> I like the design of the bell in the or like the clock in the back.

[01:05:28]Yeah. They worked with the gypsies and the the the gypsies worked with the town's people and feas take down Froolo and his regime out in front of the Notraam.

[01:06:03]Yeah. And that's what left of this paddle.

[01:06:09]Wow. Hang on.

[01:06:34]No, it it was, you know, seeing that fire it's kind of, you know, looking back at the history of the Notream Church that uh it's only been on fire once in 800 years and apparently it was during that When did it catch on fire?

[01:06:59]>> The only time that it actually, you know, in the movie it's, you know, obviously in the 1400s, but the only time the church has actually caught on fire was in 2019.

[01:07:11]>> Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Something like that happened.

[01:07:16]Anyway, this is the this is where the final battle start to unfold.

[01:07:21]and Quasi he he and the gargo has had to do what it takes to protect Asmeralda and stop at the same time.

[01:07:31]>> Yeah, he right here you see him take picking up a wooden beam and dropping it right down onto that.

[01:07:42]>> He destroyed Froolo's carriage.

[01:07:45]>> That's a powerful piece of wood. Yeah, I got to be careful too not to play this thing too much because you know about copyrights.

[01:07:54]>> Yeah, that angered Froolo and as he took the sword from his from his new captain and ordered his guards to start breaking down the door.

[01:08:03]Feebis, however, manages to escape.

[01:08:11]>> I would hurt him.

[01:08:13]>> Yeah. And now leads a rebellion.

[01:08:26]our city. And now he has >> he HAS DECLARED WAR.

[01:08:36]Will we allow it?

[01:08:41]Yep. The town's people revolt in anger and are joining Febas and the gypsies in war against the guards and follows regime >> an early version of the revolution.

[01:09:01]>> Yeah. And even the jester from the from the festival of fools was freed with the others to take on the guards right in front of the notra.

[01:09:12]And Feebas was leading the charge.

[01:09:21]>> Yeah. Just like that.

[01:09:26]>> Yeah. And watch what Yeah.

[01:09:30]Yep. Quasi definitely knew what he was doing when he was taking on Feebas. I mean, taking on Froolo's men and keeping them. It's kind of similar to one of these levels like Lord of the Rings where you have to stop the bad stop the evil orcs from advancing on the on the Hornberg Fortress >> and towers.

[01:09:55]Yeah.

[01:09:56]>> Yeah. They had to break the ladders with every stone and every rock and brick they had up in the tower.

[01:10:03]Heck, even Victor, even Victor dropped the one on a brick.

[01:10:08]But this one is even crazier with with Hugo chewing on gravel.

[01:10:19]Watch.

[01:10:26]Yeah, that was classic.

[01:10:30]Man, that was classic.

[01:10:32]And now Feep is takes and watch FE is taking on some of the guards.

[01:10:42]And while the gar were helping Quasi with their ultimatum of stopping the siege watch >> the Wilhelm scream. Yeah. And then they started throwing a catapult down the off the roof which was meant to be used to launch things. But soon as it got down there was used like a mouse trap.

[01:11:18]>> Mhm.

[01:11:20]And now here Feebas takes on the brutish guard right out in this right right out in the city.

[01:11:34]>> Yeah. Right. Well, now this is what I call this an epic civil war between the people and the and the regime.

[01:11:44]And guess how he stopped him?

[01:11:49]Yeah.

[01:11:50]>> Same as before.

[01:11:52]>> Sit.

[01:11:57]>> Yeah. And one of the gargoas summoned the pigeons to go right after these after the guards from below.

[01:12:06]>> Mhm.

[01:12:06]>> Yeah. Yeah. That was silly.

[01:12:10]And last of but not least, Victor and Hugo were helping Quasi melt some stone to turn into lava. And just as Froolo breached the place, they unleashed all that molten lava out of the gargo's mouth and onto the streets to scare off the the pe to to scare everybody off from barging right in.

[01:12:32]Man, it's like turning it's like reforshaping the entire field battlefield in in the whole block with with molten lava and stuff or mol or just molten gravel.

[01:12:48]There a whole lot of gravel in that place if that's the case.

[01:12:52]>> Yeah.

[01:12:53]>> Yeah. Froolo, however, managed to get in.

[01:13:07]Yeah. But now, but now Quasi But now, soon as Froolo came. Hang on. Let me get that screen up. Let me get the screen up, folks.

[01:13:26]Here we are.

[01:13:34]Yeah.

[01:13:44]Yeah, Froolo was now looking to kill Quasimoto with authority he took from the captain and Quasi had to protect Esmeralda soon as they soon as they had to had to use had to escape down had to make their way down from the from the ledge from the tower even for dear life. Froolo was definitely not holding back when he when he was pursuing the >> Yeah.

[01:14:22]Yeah. He was really gone mad when he was after as Merlin and tried to kill her and Quasi while they were while they were in while their lives were in peril.

[01:14:32]Fortunately, he wasn't he was unaware of the gargoyles.

[01:14:37]Yeah.

[01:14:48]>> The squirrel in the chance is helping out.

[01:14:53]>> Yeah.

[01:14:55]>> Or chipmunk.

[01:15:03]>> Yeah. these things that Quasi was standing on.

[01:15:12]Yeah. Froolo was hanging on to and soon as Froolo tried to kill Esmeralda, one of the one of these things came to life and they and scared the hell out of him just before they both fell from from the Notra and into the into the molten lava ravine.

[01:15:37]Boy, man, it must I'm not sure just how painful of a fall it was, but damn, he he sure he sure fell flat big time as soon as he touched it.

[01:15:50]>> If there's not one fall from a large building or cliff, it's not a Disney movie.

[01:15:56]>> There you go.

[01:15:59]Your punishment is to take a great fall.

[01:16:05]>> Yeah.

[01:16:22]Yeah. Yeah. At the end, Feeas, Esmeralda, and Quasi were all all right.

[01:16:31]They were really Yeah.

[01:16:35]Yeah.

[01:16:37]They all And they all came down from the tower to meet up with the town's people out in the out in the square to see.

[01:16:48]Yeah.

[01:16:49]after Froolo and his regime was defeated.

[01:16:59]Let me bring that up.

[01:20:55]and and and with Esmeralda relieved to see that he's all right, Quasi was able to understand things better now after after his after his experience and adventures with the both of them. He had no problems giving the two of them his blessing for them to be together.

[01:21:17]After that, dawn had come and Feebas and Esmeralda came out cheering along with the people that they that they put an end to Froolo's reign on on the whole city of Paris.

[01:21:31]>> Yeah. I mean, this movie had a lot of what we're showing what goes on in the real world. Even if it's toned down, it it did a great job. It was toned down because the original Hunchback of Notredam was uh a tragic story where uh >> people who don't understand >> uh those those uh diff those with uh disa disability and are different from them.

[01:22:04]>> That is true. But hey, but at least this one was fun. And it did show some dark elements in it, like the part where Quasi was not only lost his mother, but and it where he was tied up to a to a spinning wheel in in front of everyone else out in the festival of fools. And how much pain.

There's such variety in the faces and expressions and and you don't get and like guitar said, it's almost a cookie cutter template now of faces, you know, just in that shot right there that you're putting up. There's so many different, you know, shapes and looks and and what we get today with the the computer animated stuff, they would almost look unlike, you know, >> look at that. Look at all this picture.

[01:23:42]>> Absolutely. And you make a good point, CD Stein. Plenty of folks over who are fans of the Tekken games have been talking about how how similar and exact faces of certain characters are in the and the Tekken games unlike unlike the old days back when they're >> right.

[01:24:01]>> Well, then just you know just like the shot here. This doesn't look completely like her but there are definite you know cells of this animation that really do look like Dei Moore. And then, you know, Feeas looks a lot like Kevin Klene, you know, um Tony J that plays uh Froolo, you know, if you see him looks a lot like, you know, nowadays they they just almost it's a cookie cutter.

[01:24:48]The details they they take uh great effort in putting all the details on screen.

[01:25:14]>> And now we're kind of you we're getting into the digital age and losing some of that, >> you know, and we're moving into the AI stuff and it's going to be even worse.

[01:25:29]CGI was the prototype of uh AI for all intented purposes.

[01:25:36]>> Well, and and you know, when they experimented with some of the computer backgrounds and stuff like say Treasure Planet or >> some of the stuff a little bit, you know, it's not nearly as much in that as it is in Treasure Planet or um >> uh Tarzan. They used a little bit more of it, you know, with the computer in the background.

[01:26:00]>> Was was a great animated movie.

[01:26:04]>> But it it it made a good kind of balance between using new technologies and the old drawn cells.

[01:26:15]>> And nowadays, it's they're just relying too much too much on the computer, just like regular movies with special effects.

[01:27:04]Yeah. So much detail and organic effort.

[01:27:08]I mean, there's no way AI can really recapture all all the magic that we had back in the 90s for animated stuff. I mean, yeah, 90s was the peak of animation at its best.

[01:27:24]>> I think we really kind of had a 30-year stretch between the 70s and the the late 90s, early 2000s, I think was for a lot of things, comics, movies, you know, animation.

[01:27:37]I I I just, you know, for for us being so more so much more advanced in in our technology, it seems like we've gone backwards with, you know, >> what we're seeing.

[01:27:57]>> The artist versus the mechanical stamping, >> right? I mean, you just look at, you know, like CGI in in movies. I mean, peak CGI, even though, you know, there's one or two little kind of chanky shots of it, but you look at Jurassic Park.

[01:28:22]>> I mean, you know, the visuals in that are almost seamless with the with the reality compared to now just looking at Superman.

[01:28:32]>> Yeah. because they had to use props and stuff to help >> make the dinosaurs come to life.

[01:28:39]>> But it was it honestly was there was a lot of computer animation in Jurassic Park along with the practical effect.

[01:28:48]So, you know, and like I said, it kind of blend in seamlessly and nowadays I think we're just relying too much on the technology and not on the artist.

[01:28:59]>> Yeah. I think I think the audience has >> Yeah.

[01:29:03]>> something to do with all this stuff.

[01:29:07]>> They like this and through throughout the years we have have developed kind taste for right.

[01:29:34]>> Yeah, you can't even get that anymore with animation. I mean, it definitely Yeah, it where people put a lot of heart and soul into stuff and now and nowadays we get so much computer animations and things.

[01:29:52]Sure, it's a lot of work to actually compete complete a picture and things, but hey, it shows great talent and good art, man.

[01:30:09]Yeah, they Anyway, ever since came along, all they done was regress the other way over over their obsession with AI. I mean, some of these folks, including Iger, came from Silicon Valley, which is where all the digital stuff has been created since the '9s.

[01:30:32]And now since he became it, I mean, man, animation was fun, but wow. Shame we're never going to see that again for a very long time.

[01:30:47]It's why a lot of people have moved to anime.
