Pets get into things and those are the types of things that we cut. And then, [snorts] you know, whenever uh Brian makes a wholly inappropriate No, I'm joking. It's usually me who's making the inappropriate jokes, but most of those stay in. Most of them. Um Yeah. Yeah, guys. Uh we we are still you know enjoyed the first episode but still not sure how to take this you know looking at the the uh uh titles or not titles the tags here on Crunchyroll you see action adventure drama fantasy thriller well I you'll see shows in each of these that span many many more and um I don't know It's it's it's a very interesting show and I'm really hoping there's a lot more. Um uh not that there wasn't any in the first episode. It's the first episode.

[00:02:14]I'm I don't have like expectations of getting a whole world lore rules systems, but I am hoping there's some substance to some of those things as well. Cuz sometimes you'll have a show and the characters are great and the general story are great, but you're left wanting for some some background, some world building, some uh system, some rules, especially if there's magic and stuff like that. And then other series, and not just anime, this is, you know, entertainment and in general, other uh uh series will do the exact opposite. It is all the lore, all the world building, all the systems, all the rules, crap characters, and crap story, though. So, you want something that's got a good balance um versus one that just does one or the other really, really well. So, [snorts] unless you're playing like a tabletop RPG, then yeah, all the lore and rules only is is good to go.

[00:03:14]Ooh, 2013. Okay, so she is from modern age. Uh then by modern age I mean 13 years ago.

[00:03:26]This is 2013 was the year my son was born.

[00:03:48]Is this one of those gender bent isekai?

[00:03:51]Oh, [laughter] that would be >> I'm sorry. I'm going to be I've made the joke uh talking about like uh uh uh uh Ronma and stuff like I've already made the joke like if I was to be made a chick, one, I'm probably going to die from STDs. Uh, two, I'm gonna make a whole lot of money on the way there, especially if I'm a hot chick. However, I need to be generally the age, you know, maybe I could be a little bit young. I don't necessarily want to be a 41y old woman, but you know, 25, 27, you know, [laughter] but I'm going to be pissed if I am a grown ass man sent to regardless of how old Tanya's body is meant to be, look like a freaking 12-year-old. I don't want to. No, that I would be upset about.

[00:04:47]I'd be upset about being stuck as a female.

[00:05:13]that explains the uh in the first episode uh she kept saying salary man.

[00:05:19]>> Yeah. Yeah.

[00:05:20]>> You know, so that that meant Okay.

[00:05:22][laughter] >> Yeah. I thought it was one of those interesting ones. And one of the things about watching anime with um uh subtitles is you're always wondering about translations. Um uh whether it deals with slang, pop culture references, or just you don't know if they used a real human AI, a combination. Like it's always one of those things. So, I always kind of if I if I pick up on it like you you mentioned it, uh it really didn't dawn on me because in my back of my mind, I'm just like maybe it's just some translation thing and she just and it's businessmen, maybe they meant it as businessmen for this world, but because it's anime translate. Anyways, uh but yeah, very good, very good point.

[00:06:12]Yeah, but sometimes following the rules is by train.

[00:06:17]>> Yeah. [groaning] >> Oh, and he gets to see who did it.

[00:07:18]Damn. [laughter] I mean, to be fair, you could be just having, you know, uh uh uh random memories firing off cuz you're dead.

[00:07:37]You're splattered in front of the train, but neurons fired off in those last moments and it seems like forever.

[00:07:42]That's what some people say. But you are experiencing something supernatural. You can't you can't just say, "I reject the supernatural." I It's right there in front of you.

[00:08:03]Not true.

[00:08:20]Oh, damn.

[00:08:22]It's a bureaucrat likes that.

[00:08:44]>> [snorts] [laughter] >> I I I mean it's a good line. [laughter] I the way it >> he's not wrong. However, however, I I'm now wondering, is that a is that a um a jab at the lack of self-realization within the Japanese work culture, or is that a straight straight up critique of the Japanese work culture from a Japanese uh uh uh entertainment property? Um, look, I America does not have compared to a lot of places in Europe especially, we have a rough or hostile work culture. Some would would consider um mostly it comes down to what's covered for health care, child care, and maternity or paternity leave.

[00:09:53]That's what it usually all comes down.

[00:09:55]Vacation days. Um, a lot of companies have really great benefits, have really good good things going on. It just doesn't happen on a lot of entry-level jobs. Um, we could do better, absolutely. But holy crap. Uh, and it's not just Japan. Uh, other other Asian countries um have have had similar, from what I've seen and read, other uh uh similar complaints about overwork, long hours, the the uh uh uh stick with it no matter what type of of culture. While in America, it's nothing for someone to have five, 10 jobs in a lifetime. Um, you know, especially a bunch of entry- level jobs during, you know, high school, early college years. Um but Japan definitely I know a lot of people really really have struggled and suffered under under that and they talk about it a lot and um you know they point to it being a factor in like uh uh uh reproduction rates and things like that because it's just like there's no time to go and court in order to mate and why would you do that if you're not going to get to spend time with them anyways and it'll be too expensive and um so yeah I never know when they're actually have you have someone like poking at it from within an anime or manga or whatnot.

[00:11:22]Not true.

[00:11:31]I'll say this. I know people with faith that have faced a lot more uh uh trying times and gotten through it um compared to some that didn't necessarily have a faith and uh seem to struggle quite a bit.

[00:11:48]Both can struggle, both can succeed though, of course.

[00:12:05]Oh, [screaming] >> wow.

[00:12:28][crying] Okay, so full reborn.

[00:12:40]>> And that's another thing. If I got to be iside, I don't want to be iside back into like rebirth style.

[00:12:47]>> Dude, having your present day consciousness in a baby's body and Oh, that would be a hell.

[00:12:54]>> No, no, no. I like my independence. I like that I'm tall enough to reach [laughter] the the cabinets and I'm able to make my own food and um I for at least the next 25 30 years have full control of my bowels and bladder.

[00:13:13][laughter] >> Like once you get twoish it it wouldn't be as bad. But >> I'd be upset until I was, you know, at least in my teens again because again, independence and and like even even if you're you're, you know, faking the funk with your your family, your parents, and it looks like she may have just been born into like an orphanage or something like that, a war orphanage or something.

[00:13:40]Um, uh, you're still like >> I'm an adult, man. Like I get to make my own choices. Yes, there's con consequences and the things I want to do tend to be good, decent, you know, normal everyday things. But if I want to go out, like I want to go out and parents tell me no.

[00:14:05]I >> already played that game.

[00:14:13]Fore speech.

[00:14:44]Lucky you.

[00:14:51]So it's not just looks like a kid is a kid. Well, hold on. This was This said uh 1913 and it's like n Oh, so yeah, she's like 10 11 years old fighting in the war. Ah.

[00:15:17]You know, of all the um ladders to climb, I guess really doesn't have a choice as the mage.

[00:15:40]It's a different jewel than she had before.

[00:15:45]>> Or maybe there's different ones for different things.

[00:15:51]>> Maybe they uh you use them to like she's flying with it. Maybe they're like [clears throat] um >> tools. Yeah. Different pieces of equipment. And it Yeah.

[00:16:25]You don't need to be scared. Just need to do what you're told.

[00:16:44]Did she just give you guys a reason to be scared?

[00:16:53][snorts] Ow.

[00:17:15]Jeez.

[00:17:27]I No, you're >> Yeah, you're a bit overzealous.

[00:17:41][laughter] Like you you gota look look um uh the ruling through fear only works for a short period of time. And it only works during that short period of time if you can exert complete and total control. Um uh you know disarming your populace is a good way to do that.

[00:18:07]Um uh creating homogyny uh whether by outlawing something or requiring something else, a faith, a religion, a lack of something like that. Uh those are the types of things that when you see going on, it's really bad usually.

[00:18:23]Um but you can't you can't rule through just just fear. And especially if we're not talking like nationwide, talking like military units, uh you need a a certain amount of of respect. You need you need to um you need to be able to order your soldiers to their deaths potentially to their deaths um and have them follow those orders. And if they just fear you, they're not um if they respect you and they trust you, they're going to respect that you would not ask anything of them you wouldn't ask of yourself and only what was absolutely necessary. and they're going to trust you that you're going to do your best to get them through it even if the chances aren't all uh that great.

[00:19:12]You always got to balance that stuff.

[00:19:14][snorts] You can't be their friend either.

[00:19:18]Leaders cannot be the friends of their subordinates.

[00:19:21]Not in the military.

[00:19:26]>> And that's different than saying like brother sister type thing versus friend.

[00:19:31]Completely different.

[00:20:02]You're More could have been worse. Could have been Pixie08.

[00:20:45]That is like the most powerful phrase in in war right there. Fire for effect. I have seen the results of that.

[00:20:58]I I don't I don't I war is awful. Um uh there's a quote attributed to Lee I believe Roberty Lee of the Confeder confederacy and and uh all the stuff aside uh for just this quote in the context uh it's attributed to him. He said something along the lines of it's good that war is so terrible. Uh otherwise we'd become fond of it too fond of it because there are there are aspects of it from the uh seeing a plan come together a strategic so big battlefield or even tactical plan small individual fight or you know operation on that battlefield. uh seeing those form and be executed uh to perfection and succeed in their goals. That's amazing because of everything that goes into that.

[00:21:51]Regardless of how you feel about Maduro being taken out, that operation was mindblowing. A phenomenal operation regardless of of who, what, when, where, or why the operation itself. [snorts] Um, and then there's the acts of uh heroism, the the uh legends that are made on the battlefield forged in fire. Uh, and of course there's the raw power of it and seeing something like an artillery barrage is amazing, but at the same time, I've seen the results of it.

[00:22:35]It's good that war is terrible.

[00:22:37]>> [snorts] [screaming] >> You know, that's a job. I don't know how long it's going to be in the army for for much uh longer. um observers. I mean, it's still going to be a job, but as far as like going out on foot, drones and and satellite and all sorts of other stuff are making it a lot less necessary, or at least they'll it'll still be a an observer, uh Ford observer, and they'll uh but they'll stop a lot further back than they would and send out drones and robots.

[00:24:16]You're in trouble.

[00:24:48]She was Wow.

[00:24:51]>> She was level seven and she wandered into a level 20 zone. [laughter] Yeah. Like whoops whoopsy.

[00:25:00][snorts] Apparently, something changes between now and what we saw last episode.

[00:25:30][laughter] >> [laughter] [screaming] >> It's just stabbed.

[00:26:20]I just realized uh couple connections uh uh these guys are rolling around on on skates or skates skis like skis instead of like they're longer skis instead of her like boot ski thing and uh uh they're in the Nordic countries.

[00:26:38]The Nordan or whatever is is the name here.

[00:26:46]It's like I see what you're doing.

[00:26:48][laughter] I approve.

[00:27:00]>> Damn.

[00:27:02]Don't worry. Arms grow back. No, they don't.

[00:27:19]YOU GUYS GOT TO GET TO THE RANGE MORE.

[00:28:34]>> [laughter] >> I mean, in an ace usually five kills or something like that, or am I projecting something I've read before?

[00:29:10]I don't think so. [snorts] >> [music] [clears throat] >> What side are you on?

[00:29:33]>> Well, that that's interesting. Explains a few things. Uh, the cutthroatness [laughter] >> coming from the world of business.

[00:29:46][snorts] >> I I liked it. I I really did enjoy that.

[00:29:49]What' you think, Brian? Yeah, I liked it. Uh, it answered a lot of the questions we had. So, there you go.

[00:29:58]>> I'm still curious about to the um magic uh rules um origins um [snorts] why is this world so different than uh ours? You know, it looks to be shaped the same. It's um >> it's different than say Full Metal which used you know where there was similarities between worlds and I'm talking like the 03 one right now specifically um because in that one you go into our world and it was our world right I think in that movie I know it was Germany and stuff it wasn't just >> but you know here they're they're in it's shaped like ours like everything is not just similar it's It's parallel. Um, and um, so I'm wondering what makes this one go the way it went. [snorts] If that's uh, anything that's ever explored.

[00:30:58]Doesn't have to be. It' be cool if it were.

[00:31:19]>> [laughter] >> should just be a military uniform if it's for a military award.

[00:31:29][laughter] >> [laughter] >> Okay. [snorts] Well, that was that was rather uh that was rather silly. Like I said, should have been in military uniform regardless. Uh yeah, good episode. Uh I'm I'm down with it. uh looks like it will very much survive the 3 episode rule unless it just like crashes here, but I don't necessarily [snorts] uh foresee that happening and I am definitely getting sick. It has been getting slightly worse during the uh watching of these two episodes. So, yay, there's that. Uh thoughts, Brian, two episodes in.

[00:32:25]Everything looks really nice also. Um, story is interesting.

[00:32:31]Yeah, I'm I'm pretty much hooked. I'm >> curious to where it goes, >> down with it. [snorts] And, uh, depending on how long it takes us to get over this cold and get everything else recorded that we have to, uh, Brian and I will try to watch, uh, this as quickly as we possibly can, fitting in as many episodes in in a particular session uh, as we can and get these um, started, edited, and and published.
