Weather patterns can remain variable and unpredictable during seasonal transitions, with April's conditions in the Tri-State area showing significant fluctuations between cloudy, cool conditions and brief periods of sunshine, demonstrating how atmospheric systems create complex and changing weather conditions that don't always follow expected seasonal warming patterns.

Cloudy weather continues across the Tri-State areaHinzugefügt:
All right, let's check the weather. Tony Sedikou is in the immersive studio with our first alert forecast and we're waiting for the sun to come out, Tony. I know we need it. It's been like days and days where the clouds have just been hanging around, which is okay, right?
It's April, last day of April. Let's get the clouds and the rain out of here and let's bring on May. And I think you'll like the pattern change on the way. But first things first, uh beneficial rain as we round out the month, believe it or not. This is our driest April in about 10 years in the city. So, I mean, we'll take some rain. We'll still end the month at a deficit, not drought-busting rain, but you see from our weather watchers like Ed in Red Hook, he'd had a half inch of rain. Charlie Narrowsburg had a little bit more with the showers overnight. Gloomy, cloudy start, Cherry says out in Riverhead, but she's looking forward to tomorrow and she knows it's going to be a better day and you know, how can it not be? I mean, any day can be better than today, especially if it features more sunshine. I think we'll get there tomorrow. Now, Les in Laurel Lake says the plants are excited about a day like this. They do need the rain and the pollen, hopefully we can lower those counts, make it a little easier to be outside with time. We certainly have the clouds, although some signs that we are starting to see the clouds thin out in parts of the suburbs. We'll watch for that trend to continue, I think, in the hours ahead. Still hanging out to 52°.
Been an interesting month as the month winds down. We certainly felt our fair share of heat. We know what that feels like, right? And this is the month that gave us 90° just a few weeks ago and here we are struggling to get out of the 40s, 50s.
I know some of our weather watchers tempted to crank up the heat. Don't blame you. It's rather cool and I think that's how we end the month and unfortunately, I mean, you think to yourself, okay, May begins tomorrow. Surely we're going to warm things up, right?
Well, not so fast. Today it's a struggle. Tomorrow 64, it's a brighter day, but still falls short of where we should be this time of year. Upper 60s more like and then you see the trend heading in the weekend, actually gets cooler. We're struggling to get out of the 50s. Now, the weather is improving.
We just need the clouds to clear, but before that happens, there may be another piece of energy that swings in later this evening. So, it's that spoke of energy. It's another disturbance out here across the Midwest we'll watch for later tomorrow and then there's going to be some big time rains that develop across the south and that could provide a big soaking, beneficial rain for portions of the southeast where they've been dealing with wildfires. Don't see any major systems our way, but the pattern's such that, you know, there's a couple speed bumps heading to the weekend. Now, your feature cast today will feature, yeah, there goes the clearing. It's not going to be like total sun, but we're working our way there and with that temperatures can recover into the 60s, but you see these showers, I think they could kind of skirt on by, probably after the evening commute, mainly south of the city. It'll be mainly isolated, so it's not like a ton adds up in the rain gauge, but then tomorrow it's bright, it's cool to start. Most of the day's uneventful, but then we end the day with some showers. Got the drought update this morning and it's it's looking worse in parts of the area, so we could actually use a little more rain. We get into the weekend, that system looks like it'll stay offshore.
Um so, we don't have any major worries.
It's just cooler, but numbers do rebound next week. We're finally talking 60s and 70s, Cindy, by the middle of next week.
Tony, thank you very much.
