Vote to reduce the number of Orleans Parish judges pushed back

[00:00:00]momentum to pass the controversial state senate bill. It could change the number of court judges in Orleans Parish is starting to slow down. The Senate and state house keep rejecting amendments to the bill and now it may take even longer before they take an official vote. Right now, the bill is waiting to be reviewed by the Senate Conference Committee.

[00:00:18]That's when a special panel will decide how to move forward with the bill after the House and Senate passed different versions and failed to meet a compromise. The committee is set to meet sometime today. Uh SB 217 was written by Senator Jay Morris who is from West Monroe. It would cut the number of judges in the criminal court from 12 to9. Morris is on the conference committee to come up with a compromise.

[00:00:39]Both the Senate and the House must pass the bill before the end of this legislative session to become law. The session ends June 1st.
