Roman Slave Owners Could Kill Their Slaves #shortsHinzugefügt:
The life of a slave is so unprotected and so terrifying every moment. The thing is that apart from public slaves, there is no legal requirement at any point for a person who owns slaves to feed them, clothe them, look after them, give them medical care, keep them alive. They can up until it's not until Constantine in like 315 C that there are any laws that prevent people from murdering their slaves on purpose.
And he just says, "If you want to burn your slave, that's fine, but you can't do it with intent to kill."
And so there is no protection at all. And it is perfectly plausible that any point you can be sold, you can be killed, you can be beaten, which is considered to be perfectly normal.
