Magistrate Braley's In-Custody ArraignmentsAdded:
District Hillary Brayley presiding. And hello at the jail.
Mr. Bond Sanders?
>> Yes, ma'am.
>> Okay.
All right.
Now calling case numbers 24W000406A and B. These are the Township of Ypsilanti versus Dejor Bond Sanders. Can I have appearances for the record, please?
>> Um good morning, Your Honor. Assistant Public Defender Nicole Van Larkham with and on behalf of Mr. Dejor Bond Sanders.
>> Can you turn it up?
Thank you.
>> All right. Are you able to hear any better?
>> Yes, ma'am. Yes, ma'am.
>> Okay.
Okay, good.
All right. So, today is the date set for an arraignment in these matters.
What I am seeing is that bench warrants issued for your arrest on May 12th of this year. That was after you failed to appear for the pre-trial that was scheduled on May 12th.
So.
Attorney Van Larkham?
>> Yes, Your Honor. At this time we would just reserve our bond argument for when appropriate.
>> You may make your bond argument. Thank you.
>> Thank you, Your Honor. At this time we would request a personal recognizance bond for Mr. Von Sanders. He just started a new job. He's doing hot food prep in Ann Arbor. He lives in the area, has children and ties in the area in Ann Arbor. Um his mom is sick and she had some major surgery, so he needs to be able to visit with her in Mississippi and uh assist with her recovery. He has five children he takes care of who are currently ranging in age from 2 months to 17 years. Um and so we are requesting a personal recognizance bond. Um we do know that he is being held on another case. Bond will be addressed on that one. It is pre-trial on June 11th.
>> Okay. I didn't I'm sorry cuz you have a lot of background noise.
Um you said that he's being held on another matter.
>> Correct, Your Honor. He is being held on another case. He has bond in that one.
Um that is currently set at 100,000 with the right to post 10% or Oh, I'm sorry.
That's cash surety. Um and that's going to be addressed at his pre-trial on June 11th.
>> Okay.
All right.
So I will note that it doesn't look uh Mr. Von Sanders like you have a valid driver's license at this point. Is that correct?
>> Yes, ma'am. Only because I've been in and out of Michigan state and I've been in Mississippi and I've just been having a hard time in this cuz I still have other fees and fines on my other case that I have to pay off before I can even pay off those cases as well. So I still owe $185 on my double parking from What's this for This This right here is 14A, This is 14 A court, right? I'll be >> Yeah.
>> So, I owe 14 A court out here. So, that's why it's really kind of taking me a lot longer cuz I just not Okay, so my last time I'm talking to you back in I want to say February or March, one of those two, I had missed court also.
Remember?
And I had also went up there to the courthouse to figure out like what was my total amount that I had owed. You know it was more than what I owed. I would It was more than what I thought that I had owed. I owed them $135 plus the $50 reinstatement fee for my license. So, at that time I'm thinking like 90 90 dollars and I could have went on ahead and got it out of the way, but that wasn't the case.
>> All right. So, as far as these two tickets go, they are They are both uh 90-day misdemeanors.
>> And I have did both 90 days twice.
>> Yeah, that's what I was going to say.
You You got 134 days.
>> Yeah, I just Can I just Can you get get you to it right now? Or can I Can you just give me like a double parking ticket or something on top of that?
>> Do you want to talk to your public defender real quick?
>> I'll do that. Yes.
>> I can put you into a breakout room.
Okay. He says yeah, he's He's got 100 and well, he The last one I saw him in April, he had 134 days of credit.
Okay. Um so, I'm going to open up breakout rooms. Uh Mr. Bond Sanders, you'll probably have to knock on the door to have them put you into a breakout room. Okay?
>> Yes, ma'am.
>> They got to >> a breakout room.
Okay.
Okay. Court's in recess while they're in the breakout room.
>> Mhm.
>> Mhm.
>> I apologize for the camera, your honor.
It keeps zooming in and out on me, and I'm not sure why. Um I believe Mr. Bond Sanders is coming out. He's talking There he is, talking to the jail.
>> Right.
Okay. So, back on the record on 24W000406A and B, Township of Ypsilanti versus DeJour Bond Sanders. So, what are we doing?
>> It is at this time, your honor, we would like to request that it be set for the nearest pre-trial date, um so that he can speak with his attorney, and his attorney can get with the prosecutor on um on a plea.
>> Okay. So, we're not pleading guilty today, then.
>> Correct.
Sorry, it's very noisy in here, but yes, um for today, we would just request the nearest pre-trial date we could get on this case.
>> All right. Well, I'm trying to unmute him, cuz he looked like he was trying to say something else.
>> I was just being told that the that the defensive attorney had to be here. I want to plead guilty, so I can at least get it out the way. It's only a misdemeanor. I done overdid my days already, like what does the prosecutor have to be here? If you said that you want to willing to that you're willing to do it, why does I have I done did my time plus more than did my time already?
>> Okay. So, it is up to you.
Uh there are two of these tickets. They are both misdemeanors, so it means you'll have two more misdemeanors on your record.
>> Okay.
>> Okay.
So, is that what you want to do?
>> Yes.
>> All right.
Raise your right hand, please.
Do you swear or affirm that the testimony you're about to give is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth to the best of your information, knowledge, and belief?
>> Yes.
>> All right, thank you.
In the matter of driving with no license never acquired, how do you plead?
>> Guilty.
>> And in the matter of driving an unregistered vehicle, how do you plead?
>> I said that they was going to be double parkings. I'm lost. I'm I'm totally lost now.
>> Okay, so then this is why you want to talk to the uh prosecutor then.
>> I just said it. I just said it for my next uh date that she was telling me about that >> Okay, then yes. So, just to be clear, we do not have a plea at this time. We will set this for the next pre-trial date.
Yeah, the next good pre-trial date I have for this would be June 23rd.
So, that will be June 23rd, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. That will be in front of me, and we will see where we're at at that point, okay? But yeah, so it that's why you would need to talk to the prosecutor then if you wanted to plead something else.
All right.
>> June 23rd, 9:00 in front of you.
>> Correct, yes. So, if you're still there, it'll be over Zoom. If you're not still in there, then it's going to be in person, okay?
>> Okay.
>> All right.
Okay, so the court will set uh $1,000 cash or surety bonds. 10% is allowed in each of these, and if things get converted to personal recognizance bonds or you're otherwise released, these will convert to personal recognizance bonds.
>> Yes, ma'am. Thank you.
>> You're welcome.
All right. Anything else?
>> No, ma'am.
>> Okay.
I think you're done.
Okay, thank you. All right then, Mr. Bond Sanders, you get to come see me one more time apparently.
>> Yes, ma'am. Thank you.
>> Okay, thank you.
Good morning. I will be right with you.
Would you be Ms. Moses?
>> Yes.
>> Okay.
>> No.
>> All right. Now calling case number 21400481.
This is Ypsilanti Township versus Jaylen Moses. Appearances for the record, please.
>> Good morning, Your Honor. Assistant Public Defender Nicole Van Blarcom with an RV.
>> Good morning, Your Honor. This is Jaylen Moses. At this time, Your Honor, we would just reserve our bond argument for when it's appropriate.
>> All right. Thank you. You may address bond.
>> Yes, Your Honor. At this time, we would request a personal recognizance bond for Ms. Moses. She has no prior criminal history, Your Honor. I checked.
>> Hold up a second. Attorney Van Blarcom, I'm sorry.
Is there any chance that you can ask the people behind you having a loud conversation to go someplace else?
>> I apologize, Your Honor. They are on the computer, but let me see if I can >> I have another office meeting in about 30 seconds, okay?
>> Okay. I thought it was the people behind you. Sorry.
Yeah.
>> You are muted.
>> I'm still muted?
>> No, okay. Now you're I don't know what the computer is doing.
So there, okay. You're showing is muted, but I can obviously hear you.
>> Okay, good.
>> Pick up where you left off as far as the bond argument, please.
>> Yes, Your Honor. So Ms. Moses has no other criminal history on her I-Chat.
She has been testing for over a year, and she has never I think it might have just kicked me off and back on.
>> Yes.
>> Okay. I apologize, Your Honor. I'm not sure why this is having so many issues today.
Ms. Moses, she has no other criminal history on her I-Chat. She's been testing for over a year. She has never tested positive. She's been trying to fulfill her probation requirements. She was attending her AA meetings online. Um the last one she attended was May 15th.
She didn't realize that there was no way to track them, that the court wasn't able to see that she was going. So she will start going in person to make sure that she can get the proof of those meetings to send to the court. Um and she stated she did not have the link to the highway safety training until May 18th. Her probation agent stated he was supposed to send the link and he had not, so he sent it to her May 18th. She checked and the next classes are in July and August, so she will take one of those classes to fill this requirement.
She's a single mom to a 2-year-old that she needs to be able to go home and take care of, and she just got transitioned to full-time employment um doing housekeeping work, and so um it's very important that she's able to get out so that she can maintain that full-time employment that she just achieved.
Thank you so much, Your Honor, for um putting up with all of these weird interruptions and technical issues.
>> Hey, did you talk to your client about why she didn't report to probation for 90 days?
>> Um, I think she believes she was reporting. I did not get a chance to address that with her.
>> Okay, so to be clear, the what I'm seeing on the motion here from the probation officer is that she failed to provide proof of VAA meetings, so we talked about that.
Failed to complete the ABR highway safety program, so you're saying she just got the link for that on May 18th.
This was dated May 14th.
And then, uh, but they're still failed to report to probation for over 90 days.
>> Yes, your honor. We did not get a chance to speak about that. I know that she's been, um, in touch with her probation agent.
He was the one that sent her the link after saying he didn't realize he hadn't sent it to her.
Okay.
>> Yeah.
Do you have a quarter Just around the corner.
Talk about it.
You can ask him for a check.
What do you mean?
So that would be like a phone call.
Um So that that would be What what do you ask for?
Um Um Do you do um Yeah.
You probably I don't know how to speak.
What's that? Wait.
I sleep. Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. It's probably Is it Is it Is it Is it Is it again?
Yeah. Yeah.
Um Yeah. So so you let me know what time you want to meet.
7:30 1:30 7:30 tomorrow.
Okay. And then you go Um You can read me.
All right. Thank you. Bye.
It does. What time is it?
I don't know.
No. I don't know what time it is.
I don't >> Stop.
Take a switch. Here. Take a switch. She needs over here.
>> Hey, you know we're going to switch you.
We're going to switch you.
You know we're going to kick you out.
You're in the wrong room.
>> Sorry.
>> Watch out. Watch >> Thank you.
>> All right.
So, at this time the court is going to set a hearing on the violation of probation.
That will be June 30th, 2026. That will be at 10 in the morning in person at the 14B District Court.
That will be in front of Judge Washington.
At this time, the court is going to grant a personal recognizance bond.
You are to report in person to the 14B District Court within the next 24 hours.
So, the building closes to the public at 4:30. You have until 4:30 tomorrow to get here to talk to your probation officer in person.
You are being granted a personal recognizance bond at this time.
If you fail to make it over here within the next 24 hours, or if you fail to appear for court, or if there are any more alleged uh probation violations, then a bench warrant may issue for your arrest all over again, and your bond could be revoked entirely.
>> So, what's the earliest I can go to court tomorrow?
>> And you can come to court today if you've got time before 4:30 today. 4:30 tomorrow is the latest. Okay? So, we open to the public at 8:30 in the morning.
>> Okay. So, because as I didn't I don't have no way of calling off, so if I was released today, I would still have to go in to work. That's why I asked about tomorrow.
>> Okay. So, 8:30 to 4:30.
Okay. Those are the hours.
>> Okay.
>> All right.
Okay.
>> Okay. Thank you.
>> Any other You're welcome. Any other questions?
>> No, so I just talked to my probation officer about everything that I'm supposed to accomplish.
Okay.
>> Yes. He did do want you to come in person within the next 24 hours. I would also suggest to calling him as soon as you are released today.
>> Then he don't I don't have his personal number. So he gave me a card with the court number only.
>> Okay. So if you call that, you should be able to get directed to his office.
>> Okay.
>> Okay.
And you know his name?
>> Nicholas. I just don't know his last name. I can't pronounce it.
>> Okay.
So if you if you call the 14B District Court if for whatever reason you can't seem to get through to him, if you talk to one of the other clerks in the office and tell them that you want to be put through to your probation officer Nicholas, then they'll be able to do that for you. Okay?
All right. But in the meantime, you still need to get here within 24 hours.
So by 4:30 p.m. tomorrow. Okay?
Preferably before then, that's when the building closes.
>> Yeah, I'll I have to work the rest of the week and I start work at 3:00 so it has to be in the morning.
>> Okay. Well, then yeah, we open at 8:30 like I said. Okay?
>> Okay.
>> Okay. Thank you.
>> You're welcome. If you don't have any other questions, you're free to go to the door and tell the jail that you're finished.
>> Okay. Thank you.
>> You're welcome.
>> Thank you, Your Honor.
>> Thank you. I believe that concludes our docket this morning.
So, thank you.
