Llangollen Canal Breach Whitchurch. Jetting, Digging and More Dumpering on Mass!Added:
Yeah. Hello. Back at the uh Canal Bridge on uh is it Tuesday morning? It is Tuesday morning. Couldn't think of the day then. Terry's just nodded at me. It is Tuesday. Glad I got that right. Would have been quite embarrassing if I got it wrong. Maybe get Friday wrong, but not Tuesday.
Um yeah. So, we'll take off. We can see in the distance the excavators and track dumpers are working in tandem again. So, we'll take off and have a little look.
Home point updated.
Have a low down shot this morning of the goings on if we can.
There's a banksman watching.
Got to be careful. I did last time I did this, I went sideways into the tree, so I won't go too far.
Making good progress on uh moving this material as we can see. Just beep once.
Track dumper moves off.
Excavator carries on mounding up material.
Track dumper heads off. If we go up, we might be able to watch him on the zoom.
and see capture of the one coming back.
As you can see with them moving through the brereech here, they are compacting the bed of the canal a little bit.
The surface is uh staying quite well compared to what would be with uh with a wheeled machine.
They've just seen that they're meeting.
So, one's going back slightly. they've got somewhere to pass. Whether these are in contact with CB radios would make sense.
Um, can see the jettter reel there, the gully sucker, whatever you want to call it. The jetting machine clashing light is on and there is a man next to it. Lots of vehicle reverse parked in the compound.
Not a lot else happening on site that I can see. Second track dumper heading down to the site. We'll go over and have a look at what they're doing by the culvert. by the drain from the culvert.
He's just uh operating something on the jet there in the top left of the screen.
If you are new to the channel or haven't already, please do uh consider subscribing to me. That would be much appreciated.
Helps me out massively. There is uh links in the description to my Facebook channel. do pop a follow on that.
Um, and you can also message me on there and there's a link to buy me a coffee if you wish to support the channel in that fashion. Thank you for all those that have recently.
I'm hankering after uh perhaps getting some more batteries for me drone or I'm wondering about upgrading to a Mavic 4. Uh, we'll wait and see. That has one big benefit in as much as um you can record audio on the actual drone. So, one of my big struggles is lining it up in the editing program. So, I might be able to get away with not having to do that. Uh, which I think would would help things out. So, I'm going to perhaps do a bit of on shed first and then uh think about doing that and then there is a link in the description to donate to CRT as well.
I did I did mention in the video yesterday uh I'm going to have the opportunity to ask CRT a few questions the next day or two. So, uh, if you do have any, please do, uh, post those in the comments and I'll pick the the most common ones.
Try and get you some answers.
I've got a few questions of me own that I want to ask, but it'd be nice to hear some from yourselves.
After all, you are the viewers. You're the people that I'm doing this filming for.
Another track dumper waiting.
Joe's just arrived to do a bit of work on his boat behind me.
There we go. He's about to head off.
Really making fast progress now on this field.
really really good to see that ditch is flowing well still into the culvert. Whether they're going to do anything on the top right of the screen here beyond the fence, I guess they'll have to do something cuz that's so much higher than where the culver is.
Uh time will tell on that, I'm sure.
So, it is still flowing through. Look all that is. Quite a lot of debris in there at the moment.
Just watch this dumper turn round and then uh we'll head off over to the other side of the canal and have a look on on the uh on the jetting site. See what's going on over there.
Be interesting to know roughly how many dumper falls was on this field, whether they're keeping count.
I'm sure they'll know when they take the material away from site how much they get charged for that.
Whether that will become public knowledge be quite interesting operating these large machines. There is going to be a cost involved in that. Not just higher, but uh they do gobble a bit of diesel.
And I presume these will all be on white diesel being construction.
Lucky in agriculture, even when we're constructing in agriculture, we can use red diesel.
So, we're going to leave that dumper to move off. Look at all the greens and the hawthornne and the blackthorn. Really good to see. We are up quite high at the moment. 53 m.
Just fly over and have a little look over here.
We have got some kind of operation going on here. Is that the That's a jetter reel. So they are jetting at the moment from this side by the looks.
That's good to see.
Really exciting to see them jetting that side starting early in the morning as well. Hopefully uh they'll crack this off today.
Be good to see if they did.
They are pumping as well. I think just have a look at the outlet of that to see if there's a if there is water coming out.
If they aren't pumping at the moment, they have been I would say it doesn't look like they are actually pumping at the moment.
I guess any water will just overflow that dam into the stream where they are.
So, uh, only just going in. You can see the blue leader hose, but it's sending in well. And I would say that was what, 5 10 m long, the leader hose. So, um, they are getting in a fair distance.
If we just uh head over a bit more towards the actual culvert.
See if we can't get a view of that side.
A little bit breezy up at this height. I prefer to be up high so I can see me drone from where I'm flying. That's very important.
I would say they're not so far away.
Well, there is water coming down the pipe. So, it would say that that is clear now.
Interesting. See if the jet does come out of there.
Looked to be a pipe there on the bottom of the screen, but this one looks to be coming from under the water slightly.
Maybe there's two pipes leading away from this cover opening.
quite violent.
Obviously the jet is working very very high pressure.
Whether we can see if they're still going in or not from here. I doubt we will.
Looks like they are.
We want to show Terry the screen and he might find this interesting.
It's a culvert here. There's a lot of water going down the pipe there, but it looks like they're jetting up that way.
This is the uh outlet of the culvert and we can see that they are jetting towards us from the stream.
There is water rushing away down what looks like possibly a second pipe. So there could be two pipes there.
Hopefully they get this sorted today.
Do look out for the full video later on on this uh jetting work down at the Clangopolan Canal Bridge. They are jetting the pipe leading away from the culvert. Looks like they've just stopped for a moment.
There will be a full video put on this evening. Do look out for that.
So, I'm just going to head over to back towards the stream.
I'm going to pull the leader hose out now.
Just going to zoom out so it's a bit easier to see to maneuver.
There's quite a lot of sediment just appearing here.
whether that's one of the pipes.
Water looks quite clear back from that.
And then obviously they're working on one of the other pipes. Maybe two two clay pipes leading away from this culvert area.
Um, obviously there's like a four or five foot culvert going under the canal. So under heavy rain, they may expect to need two pipes to uh to take that water.
As we can see, I think it is well under the bed of the stream. So the stream has filled in somewhat.
Um, obviously the ditch over the years fills up with sediment and infills, animals treading it in and what have you. Ditches need to be dug. I dig my ditches every 3 years around me field.
Um, not everyone does that, but that does uh does make for for good drainage. Really, it's just it's just routine maintenance. Has to be done.
Doesn't look like this stream's been dug out for some time.
I am off to work shortly. So, uh I will bring you an evening update, an evening video as long as the weather allows.
And uh all this will go up this evening.
Thank you very much for watching last night's evening update. Very much appreciated. Got lots of views and some really, really interesting comments, which I love reading. I do try and respond to some of them. I can't respond to all of them anymore. There's that many.
And I'm actually really quite busy between YouTube work and uh trying to get ready to put the frame of my shed up, which is approaching quite soon.
I think I've lined up a time where my friends are all free.
So, while they're just digging this out, I'm going to zoom out.
I'm going to just have a little fly around. Go and have a look at the spoil heat that they're putting here.
The smaller of the two excavators is on site tidying that up.
Getting quite large here. I presume all this will have to be taken off site at some point.
There'll be a hell of a lot of lries coming to fetch this.
I guess I'll be taking 20 ton at a time.
So just under two of these at a time.
But you can imagine the amount that will be required if they do start wagoning this offsite.
Very simple construction. A ladder chassis by the looks on a sloo ring.
Um nothing complicated but it does seem to be working well. These track dumpers do seem to be very very uh successful.
Obviously spreading the load considerably.
Ground pressure is low.
He's using his dozer blade on the front of the machine to try and push it, but it's too heavy by the looks.
We will have to use his bucket to take a bit off and then maybe finish up with the uh with the blade.
Got to remember it's only a is it a 9 ton machine? It's not that heavy.
I'm trying to push 11 ton of sand with a 9 ton machine.
If we just pan around, I can see the two track dumpers are passing, but they're actually in the old cut bed. The bed of the cut. Can't really see from where I am.
See if we can watch this one coming in from this direction.
going over where the jetter is.
See the jettter hose coming down from the right and then under to the left.
I'm running a bit short on battery now, so I will be coming back into land and going off to work shortly, but I have got a good snapshot this morning of things going on.
Hopefully you've all enjoyed what I've managed to get.
He's just waiting cuz the machine is still on the heat by the looks.
So, while he's waiting, I'll come back and I'll fly over the jetting teams.
Just have a little look. I think they're still digging out by the looks. Got a good view from here, actually.
Oh, zoomed in. So, it's quite hard to fly while you're zoomed in. Little movements on my hand controller make huge movements on the actual drone.
So yeah, I'm going to start flying back now and uh I will bring you back for an evening update later on after I've been to work with a bit of luck.
Just zoom in on the actual culvert. I think we could see it flowing away before. It obviously is flowing away cuz it's now not full of water.
And there is water coming in from the other side as well as what was coming from them jetting.
So there's a good flow by the looks going down into the stream.
So that's really good news. And they're obviously just trying to clear out that final drain.
would just be nice to obviously they've got one drain like I said there the water is clear up until that point I think it looks fairly clear there as well where the second drain comes out I'm not sure whether it's further on is it sedimental sandy up here.
Let's have a little look at the ditch down here.
Looks fairly clean still.
There.
That looks sandy there. So, there's another pipe by the looks coming out here.
Funny how they're so far apart.
But yeah, that's definitely one of the outlets which I think is one that I saw yesterday just behind a tree.
So, one's working very very well and the other one will be hopefully later today. We'll check when we come back. We will uh I will guess they will have to do a bit of ditching work at some point, but that will remain to be seen.
Once we're flying over, we can hear another track dump coming back in.
Just backing up by the excavator.
Huge amount of spoil being moved.
Really good to see.
Another couple of minutes and then uh I'll be coming in to land.
Maybe get this dumper filled up.
When he heads off, I'll head off.
Probably not far off full. Just uh consolidate the sand so it doesn't all come out.
Three little taps.
Honk and off he goes. So yeah, I'm going to come back into land now.
The jetter itself coupled up to the canal for sucking water in on the uh left hand side of the screen.
And then going under the uh the pipe under the track that they put in yesterday.
I find it really interesting looking at the actual tanker, all the fittings, but that might just be me.
That's my engineering brain telling me.
Looks like the hole of the back of the tank on clips there. So, I guess I can uh dig that out if it sucks in a lot of sand or sediment if necessary or potentially jet it out.
Quite a lot of hose taken off that back hose reel. There was one of the track dumpers just coming through.
So yeah, I'm going to come back in to land, I think, and follow this uh track dumper in while we come and I'm going to shoot off to work.
Another track dumper on its way out for the passing place.
Just in the small time we've been here, you can see the amount of material that has been moved, but they are getting into the area that's quite deep.
They haven't hit the the soil yet. They are still in sand by the looks.
I'm turning his body round.
Ready to load.
Nice clean shiny body bodies. Sand's very abrasive. So that's cleaning the bodies up nicely.
Does wear things out very quickly though and in the earth moving game. Buckets and uh dumpers. It's constant fight. We do quite a lot of work on the farms and they all bed up on sand and all the pumps and machines wear out quite quickly.
sand gets into all the the pins and joints.
It's like running in sandpaper basically.
So hopefully they're staying on top of maintenance of the machines as well.
Greasing regularly.
I'm sure they are.
One final bucket full and consolidate it.
And beep beep. And off he goes.
And on that note, off I go. I think I'm going to come back in and land.
Thank you very much for watching this half of the video. Hopefully the weather will allow me to come and do an evening update later.
Probably watching me concentrating with me mouth open here. Always open my mouth when I concentrate. Quite embarrassing.
should be catching the drone really.
It's quite dry today. A bit of dust forming.
So, hello. Tuesday evening back at the Clangland Canal Bridge. Really sunny, quite breezy, and really cold.
Um, we'll take off anyway and we'll have a look what's uh happened during today.
really bright.
>> As we take off, we can see a lot of the sediment and uh spoil has been removed from the flood field. Considerable amount in fact.
Um looking a bit wet. So whether it will take a bit of time to dry out.
Um now they've removed some of the top. Let a bit more let let it sit for a bit and let a bit more water drain out of it. Or if they'll just continue.
I wouldn't actually they may not be that far from top soil level in places.
Uh but there is a there is a considerable amount and thickness here.
You can see there the thickness that must be over a meter thick.
It' be interesting to go over the other side and see the uh the heap that they've made.
Let's have a look down at the cover if we can go over the top of the fence.
Oh, sorry. It is wind. It is running in lovely bit of sediment in there but it's not filling up. So the culvert is working really well at this side.
We left it this morning with them trying to jet that other pipe out.
So I'm going to go up a bit.
Hopefully we don't get a wind warning.
Yeah, we've just had a wind warning actually. So, I'll try and go down the other side.
Get out of the wind a little bit without touching the trees, of course.
I thought was a bit scared of this cuz it's it is quite windy.
It would be nice just to have a look over this side.
It's windy where I'm sat. So up there in the sky, I would imagine it's uh considerably worse.
You can see the pictures moving about a bit.
So, it's not filling up massively there.
So, I guess they may have made progress.
The little dam that they made has been removed.
There's no sandy water coming out of there, but that's not to say it's not clear.
Maybe uh someone else managed to film it earlier on today whilst I went off for work.
Everything seems to be packed up, all the pipes.
um that were here this morning. So, they've obviously finished jetting.
Well, by the looks. We'll go up to the compound and have a little look in a moment.
It's funny how the weather changes so much from this morning.
Can't quite work out where it was this morning that it was coming in. So, I'll do a bit of a video all the way along and hopefully uh someone can pick it up.
on the video.
I can't see any sandy colored water actually. Anyway, before we get blown away and have a quick look over the compound, I want to go and have a look at that spoil heap. There's the larger of the two excavators, 20 ton.
That pipe is still under the trackway where they had the jetting hose, but uh at first glance it looks like the the jettter has disappeared.
So that's positive at least.
Now the two track dumpers and the pile has increased massively.
Good view of the dumpers there.
Nice shiny bodies on having done lots of work I'm sure today.
Smaller excavator there from Flannery 9 ton.
And then we're moving into the spoil pile which is uh sizable now.
That's at uh not zoomed in at all. And you can see the the sheer scale of that.
There's nothing else going up towards the entrance.
Trying not to go too far or too high because of the wind. So, I am going to make my way back and hopefully we can do a a morning video tomorrow.
Um well I can film a morning video I should say and that will of course go up tomorrow night again.
Do look out for that one.
Nip home now have a bit of tea and get this uh uploaded this evening.
I'm not going to do an up high video.
It's too windy.
I'm just going to come into land, I think.
Um, before we have any strife or problems, me again sat on the wall as per normal.
You'll hear the drone coming into land in a moment, which uh is working quite hard actually due to the wind.
Trying to look up at it to land. Looking into the sun.
just click into sport. So, we haven't got any uh sensors that will stop me landing.
I'm going to land on the floor. I know it may be a bit dusty. It's very, very windy at the moment. So, And hopefully we shall see you in tomorrow's video. So, uh, thank you for watching and have a good evening.
