[00:00:04][music] If today I asked you a very simple question, what in your life causes you the most suffering? You might tell me about money, relationships, [music] health, betrayal, age, or fears about the future.

[00:00:22]But if you look [music] deeper, you'll realize something surprising. What causes you suffering [music] isn't the events themselves.

[00:00:30]It's the thoughts about those events.

[00:00:33]Observe carefully.

[00:00:35]A harsh word lasts only [music] a few seconds.

[00:00:38]An event happens only a few minutes.

[00:00:41]But the mind can prolong it for years. A memory emerges, then a [music] story is constructed.

[00:00:48]Then hundreds of interpretations are added.

[00:00:52]Ultimately, >> [music] >> you are no longer living with reality.

[00:00:56]You are living with the stories your mind tells you.

[00:01:01]This is the point that Nisargadatta Maharaj constantly emphasizes. [music] He says that people don't suffer because of the world.

[00:01:10]People suffer because of their identification [music] with the mind.

[00:01:15]From a young age, we are taught how to think, >> [music] >> but not how to observe our thoughts.

[00:01:22]We are taught [music] to become someone, but not how to discover the one who is perceiving everything.

[00:01:31]When a thought arises, I fail.

[00:01:35]You believe [music] it. When another thought arises, I'm not good enough.

[00:01:41]You believe it again.

[00:01:44]Then, I need recognition.

[00:01:49]I need success.

[00:01:52]I need [music] to be loved by others.

[00:01:55]You continue to believe.

[00:01:58]The strange thing [music] is, you never check who's actually saying [music] those things.

[00:02:06]If a stranger came up and kept saying negative things about you, you'd probably walk [music] away.

[00:02:13]But when your mind does that, you take it as truth.

[00:02:18]You've given absolute power to an inner voice.

[00:02:23]That's why Maharaj often said, "The mind [music] is a great servant, but a terrible master."

[00:02:33]Now, try a little experiment. For the next 3 minutes, sit still.

[00:02:39]Don't try to stop the thoughts. [music] Don't fight them.

[00:02:43]Don't chase them.

[00:02:46]Just observe.

[00:02:48]A thought arises.

[00:02:50]Look at it.

[00:02:52]A memory arises.

[00:02:54]Look at it.

[00:02:56]An emotion arises.

[00:02:58]Look at it.

[00:03:04]Very quickly, you will discover something strange.

[00:03:08]If you can observe thoughts, the observer cannot be the thought.

[00:03:13]If you can perceive emotions, the perceiver [music] cannot be the emotion.

[00:03:20]If you can see the mind at work, the seer >> [music] >> cannot be the mind.

[00:03:26]This is the first door to enlightenment.

[00:03:29]Not to achieve something, [music] not to become something, but to realize what you have never been.

[00:03:38]Throughout your life, you have said, "I am sad.

[00:03:43]I am angry.

[00:03:45]I am afraid."

[00:03:47]But the truth may be closer to this.

[00:03:51]There is [music] sadness arising.

[00:03:54]There is anger arising.

[00:03:58]There is fear arising.

[00:04:01]The perceiver remains unchanged. [music] Not born, not dying.

[00:04:09]When you understand [music] this, a new space emerges.

[00:04:14]The space between [music] you and your thoughts.

[00:04:17]And it is in that space that freedom begins.

[00:04:22]The world you [music] live in may be just a collective dream.

[00:04:27]Now, let's delve deeper. [music] There's a question almost no one dares to ask. Is the world we experience [music] truly as we imagine it to be?

[00:04:38]Or is it just a version interpreted by the mind? [music] According to the Advaita Vedanta tradition, humans [music] don't see the world.

[00:04:48]Humans see the mind's interpretation of the world.

[00:04:52]This sounds strange, but consider this.

[00:04:57]Two people look at the same event.

[00:04:58][music] One sees opportunity.

[00:05:02]The other sees disaster.

[00:05:05]Two people look at the same rain.

[00:05:08]One feels romantic.

[00:05:10]The other feels uncomfortable.

[00:05:13]If the world were the direct cause of experience, then everyone should have the same feeling.

[00:05:19]But that's not the case.

[00:05:22]This shows that your experience [music] is not created by the world.

[00:05:26]It is created by perception.

[00:05:31]Maharaj often points out that the world you know exists only within consciousness. [music] You have never directly interacted with the world.

[00:05:42]You only interact with the images, sounds, sensations, and thoughts [music] that arise in awareness.

[00:05:52]Reflect deeply on this.

[00:05:56]Everything you have ever known about life has arisen in consciousness. [music] The sky has arisen in consciousness.

[00:06:05][music] Sounds have arisen in consciousness.

[00:06:11]The body >> [music] >> has arisen in consciousness.

[00:06:16]Thoughts have arisen [music] in consciousness. Even the concept of the world has arisen in consciousness.

[00:06:23][music] So, what is the foundation of it all?

[00:06:29]According to Maharaj, it is not the world. It is >> [music] >> perception.

[00:06:36]Just as a screen is unaffected by [music] the film playing on it, awareness remains present regardless of how the experiences content [music] changes.

[00:06:49]You were once a child, a young person, [music] an adult.

[00:06:55]Thousands of thoughts have come and gone.

[00:06:58]Thousands of emotions have come and gone.

[00:07:03]Millions of experiences have come and gone.

[00:07:09]But, something has always remained.

[00:07:13]What is aware that all these changes have occurred? That is the central question [music] of enlightenment.

[00:07:21]Maharaj does not ask you to believe in doctrine.

[00:07:25]He does not ask you to accept a religion.

[00:07:29]He does not ask you to worship [music] any god.

[00:07:32]He only asks you to look.

[00:07:36]Look deeply.

[00:07:38]Look to the very [music] root.

[00:07:40]Look at the one who is looking.

[00:07:44]And when that observation becomes pure enough, an extraordinary discovery will emerge.

[00:07:51]You begin to realize that much of what you call the world is actually layers of interpretations, memories, judgments, and conditioning accumulated over many [music] years.

[00:08:05]You don't see reality.

[00:08:08]You see the panes of glass that the mind places [music] before reality.

[00:08:14]The moment you realize this, [music] the dream begins to crack.

[00:08:18]And through those cracks, the light of truth begins to shine in.

[00:08:24]That is why Maharaj says that enlightenment is not about achieving something new.

[00:08:30]Enlightenment is waking up from the unreal.

[00:08:35]Like a dreamer realizing they are dreaming.

[00:08:38]No need to change the dream.

[00:08:41]Just wake up.

[00:08:43]And perhaps, [music] right now, as you read these lines, a part of you has begun to sense [music] what the ancient sages wanted to convey for thousands of years. [music] You are not a character in the dream. [music] You are the awareness witnessing the entire dream.

[00:09:09]The I you defend your whole life never actually existed.

[00:09:17]If there's one discovery that fundamentally shakes the way people view themselves, >> [music] >> it's this.

[00:09:23]What you call I may never have truly existed [music] in the way you think.

[00:09:28]This may sound hard to accept because from birth to the present day, our entire lives have been built around the concept of [music] I.

[00:09:37]Who I am, how old I am, whether I succeed or fail, whether I am [music] rich or poor, whether I am loved or rejected, whether I am happy or unhappy.

[00:09:51]All thoughts revolve around that center, [music] like planets revolving around the sun.

[00:09:57]But Nisargadatta Maharaj often asked his seekers >> [music] >> to do something very special.

[00:10:04]He didn't tell them to change their ego.

[00:10:07]He didn't tell them to perfect [music] their ego.

[00:10:10]He didn't tell them to make their ego better.

[00:10:13]He told them to seek it.

[00:10:16]Find out where that ego is.

[00:10:21]Look at your body.

[00:10:23]Your body [music] is constantly changing.

[00:10:26]Every cell in your body is no longer the same as it was a few years ago.

[00:10:32]If your body changes completely, then which ego remains intact?

[00:10:39]Look at your memories.

[00:10:41]Childhood memories are now just blurry images. [music] Many things you have completely forgotten.

[00:10:48]If memories change, then which ego still exists?

[00:10:55]Look at your emotions.

[00:10:57]Happy in the morning, sad in the afternoon, anxious [music] in the evening, excited tomorrow.

[00:11:07]Emotions come and go like clouds in the sky.

[00:11:10]If emotions are constantly changing, which self is real?

[00:11:17]Look at your thoughts.

[00:11:19]Every minute, [music] dozens of thoughts appear and disappear.

[00:11:24]Many thoughts even contradict each other.

[00:11:28]If thoughts are constantly changing, where is the fixed [music] self?

[00:11:35]When you look deeper, a truth begins [music] to emerge. What we call I is actually a collection of memories, beliefs, [music] emotions, habits, and stories that the mind constantly tells.

[00:11:50]It's like a novel writing itself.

[00:11:53]But because the story is constantly being told, we mistakenly believe [music] that there must be a central character who truly exists.

[00:12:03]This is humanity's greatest [music] illusion.

[00:12:07]You are not protecting yourself.

[00:12:10]You are protecting [music] an idea of yourself.

[00:12:14]You are not suffering because your true nature is being hurt.

[00:12:19]You suffer because the image you have built of [music] yourself is being threatened.

[00:12:25]Observe an angry person.

[00:12:27]What is truly [music] hurt? Usually not the body, but the self-image.

[00:12:34]Someone disrespects [music] them.

[00:12:36]Someone denies their point of view.

[00:12:39]Someone doesn't acknowledge [music] their worth.

[00:12:42]And immediately the ego reacts because the ego exists thanks to validation.

[00:12:50]It's like a fire that needs [music] constant fuel.

[00:12:53]Praise is the fuel.

[00:12:55]Status is the fuel. [music] Achievement is the fuel.

[00:13:00]Attention [music] is the fuel.

[00:13:03]But strangely, what needs [music] constant nourishment like that cannot be your true nature.

[00:13:11]Because truth doesn't need protection.

[00:13:15]The sun doesn't need anyone's recognition to continue shining. [music] The sky doesn't need anyone's praise to continue existing.

[00:13:23]The pure awareness within you is the same.

[00:13:27]It doesn't need [music] the world's approval.

[00:13:30]It doesn't need success to be complete.

[00:13:33]It doesn't need [music] failure to be flawed.

[00:13:37]It simply exists.

[00:13:41]One day, when you sit quietly and observe yourself, you might discover what makes the enlightened one smile.

[00:13:47][music] You've spent your whole life protecting a ghost.

[00:13:53]And when that ghost [music] vanishes, what remains isn't loss, but freedom.

[00:14:02]The secret of >> [music] >> I am in the wisdom of Nisargadatta Maharaj.

[00:14:10]If one had to summarize the entire teachings of Nisargadatta Maharaj in a single practice, it would probably be stay with the feeling [music] of I am.

[00:14:38]But it is in that [music] simplicity that lies the greatest door.

[00:14:50]I am a successful person.

[00:14:53]I am a failure. [music] I am a spiritual person.

[00:14:58]I am an ordinary person.

[00:15:01]Notice this.

[00:15:03]After the words I am, there is always [music] a definition.

[00:15:10]There is always a label.

[00:15:12]There is always a story.

[00:15:16]But Maharaj asks us to stop before the story begins.

[00:15:21]He only cares about the first part.

[00:15:24]I am.

[00:15:27]That's [music] all.

[00:15:28]Nothing more.

[00:15:31]No, I am this person. No, I am that person. [music] No, I am the body. No, I am the mind. No, I am the soul.

This is the most primordial state of consciousness, [music] before the world came into being, before memories came into being, before [music] identity came into being, before the story of life began. [music] There was this simple feeling, I exist. Maharaj considers this the most [music] sacred gateway because all illusions are built upon that feeling.

[00:16:21]Forget your age.

[00:16:24]Forget your profession.

[00:16:27]Forget your country.

[00:16:30]Forget your successes.

[00:16:32]Forget your failures.

[00:16:35]Forget your entire personal history.

[00:16:40]What remains?

[00:16:43]You still exist. [music] You still know that you exist.

[00:16:49]That knowledge needs no language, no thought, no philosophy.

[00:16:55]It is direct [music] experience.

[00:16:59]Maharaj says that most people [music] seek truth in very distant places, in books, in doctrines, [music] in rituals, in mystical experiences, while truth is so close that the mind overlooks it.

[00:17:19]It is the [music] feeling of being present. Right now, what is special is that the longer you remain in >> [music] >> I am, a transformation begins to take place.

[00:17:31]The mind slows down.

[00:17:33]The layers of identity begin [music] to fall away.

[00:17:36]The roles begin to lose their power.

[00:17:40]You no longer feel like a character in the story.

[00:17:43]>> [music] >> You begin to feel like the space in which the story unfolds.

[00:17:48]And then one day, an even deeper discovery occurs.

[00:17:53]Even the feeling of I am [music] is recognized.

[00:17:58]There is something deeper than mere existence.

[00:18:02]Something is aware [music] of the feeling of being.

[00:18:06]That is where Maharaj leads the seeker.

[00:18:09]A place without names, without forms, [music] without concepts, without individuals, without birth, without death.

[00:18:20]Only absolute reality.

[00:18:24]From there, [music] everything arises.

[00:18:27]And into there, everything [music] returns.
