Ancient Christian monks discovered that addiction operates through five stages—provocation, coupling, assent, captivity, and passion—and that the battle is won in the first two seconds at the coupling stage, not through willpower alone but through watchfulness (nepsis), redirecting energy to productive pursuits, and never fighting alone, as isolation and secrecy feed the addiction.

monks solved gooning 1,500 years ago and nobody told you
Added:Monks 1,500 years ago understood your addiction better than your algorithm does.
They lived in the desert. They studied their own mind for decades and they wrote down exactly how lust captures a man stage by stage like a map and their map explains why you cannot stop. Why your willpower keeps failing and why you feel like garbage, you know, in your room at 2:00 in the morning and why you have no energy. By the end of this video, you're going to know exactly which stage you're in and and how to get yourself out of it. And I want you to actually be honest with yourself when you find this out. Like I Trust me, this has helped me, guys.
I'll just, you know, I'll just be honest with you guys. This is going to be about, you know, gooning.
Your porn addiction, your lust addiction, you know, the scrolling that you're doing late at night that, you know, starts innocent and then it like ends somewhere that you didn't want to go. I I get that feeling, guys, 100%.
Nobody talks about this without either, you know, joking about it or shaming.
But I'm not going to do any of that in this video. The truth is, you are not weaker than the men that came before you.
You're just more supplied. Guys, in this world, you have to understand we are so targeted. It It is insane.
Every man in history also fought this war, but we are the first generation fighting it with a literal supercomputer with a supercomputer in your pocket that studies what breaks you and then it serves it back to you on a loop. It's like literally it knows. So, what you're doing is you're bringing willpower to an algorithm fight and this is why you're losing. Like you're never going to win that battle with your own strength. And I was looking around cuz I wanted to bring you guys a credible video and something that genuinely helped me. And the men with the best answer I have ever found to this lived 1,500 years ago.
These are Christian monks. They are Orthodox monks out in the Egyptian desert. And I'm not here to sell you that. What I'm here to do is show you what they figured out because it is very important. So, what they did is they actually went to the desert specifically to study their own minds. A lot of us never do that. We're always, you know, over We're always overstimulated by this world. You go to the desert, you will find something different. And lust was one of the main things they they researched and were learning about. So, they did leave a manual, so I'm going to get into that a little bit today. They mapped temptations in five stages. So, listen up to see if you can find yourself in any of these. So, stage one is the provocation. So, being provoked. Let's just say, you know, the image appears, the thought shows up, you know, you didn't choose it. And the monks were clear on this. This is not sin. This isn't failure. This is like weather. It It's going to happen to everyone. It even happened to them in the desert with nothing around for miles. Here is your problem. There's natural, and then yours are actually manufactured provocation.
Your feed right now and this whole world is a factory for provoking you that is never closing. I swear. You go online for 1 second. You go on TikTok, Instagram, link. You know, tap on bio, tap on this, tap on that.
It is insane the world that we're living in right now. We have to be smart to discern ourselves in this, or we're just going to literally just be in a hole our whole lives. It's never going to lead us anywhere good. But, let's get into stage two. Stage two is called the coupling.
So, this is when you engage it. You know, when you pause on it. Say you're scrolling, you pause.
The second look. You know what I'm talking about. Oh, you know, let let me just check. This This stage lasts about, you know, 2 seconds. It's literally that quick. The monks said is this is literally the entire war right here.
Everything after this is just momentum.
Think about that. Just let that let that sink in. Not the sink. Let that sink in.
The battle you keep losing at 2:00 a.m.
was probably lost at 11:47.
Stage three, the ascent. Somewhere quiet in your head, you say yes. You're not dragged out. You agreed. And this is the moment where no one admits exists. We all pretend it went from, you know, it appeared to it happened. No, there was a yes. The monks make you look at the yes. There is a point where you say yes and you dive into it. Stage four, the captivity. Now you're in the trance.
Do you guys know what I'm talking about?
You're literally in a trance. There's It's almost like you're out of body at some points during this.
No one No one even talks about this.
Time disappears. You look up and it's been 2 hours.
And you don't even remember fully deciding any of it. This generation gave stage four a name. That's That's literally what That's what gooning is.
It's called captivity with a new brand on it. You guys are literally captive to this. Stage five, the passion. It's not even an event anymore. It's a resident. It runs on schedule. You know, it has a vote in your day. It's literally living with in you. It's also part of how you cope with everything. This thing, it owns a room in your house now. And when I have gone through this, you know, I look back at my past.
It's like I wouldn't even hear a warning in that list. It just felt like a biography. And I know a lot of you guys who who are struggling with this will will see that. What I just read out was kind of a biography of what you're going through right now. Now let's get into why willpower fails. The monks here said this this war is winnable at stage one and two. And guys, I'm going to be honest, it's unwinnable after that.
Fighting at like stage four is like jumping into a train, bro. So they built an entire strategy around one skill.
They called it nepsis, watchfulness, guarding the gate. We're talking about that first glance, that first pause you look when you're, you know, scrolling or whatever. Instead of, you know, wrestling the intruder in the living room when you're way down the line, you don't want to do that.
Right at the gate. Remember that. Let's translate this into your life. The win is not, you know, closing the app after like, you know, an hour of spiraling.
The win is going to be 2 seconds before you even open it. It's going to be right at the beginning. That's the whole war.
2 seconds. That's it.
Guys, I've lived this, and this has proven to work. It's right at this moment. So, try to win where the fight is small. So, you could try these things like charging your phone outside of your bedroom. No scroll in bed. You mean, you even know your own like trigger windows.
You know when it's going to be triggered the most. Late night, you know, alone, bored. So, you want to close those windows before they open. So, that's not This is not like a life hack, guys. Now, I'm going to get into what lust is actually doing to This is going to get a little bit more deep. The monks asked what lust actually is. They believe every human being is sacred, infinite, and we have a whole world inside of us. And lust, they said, takes that whole person and compresses them into a thing to be consumed. This is before anyone said the word, you know it, objectification ever appeared. First of all, you're watching people, you're objectifying them, and you're objectifying yourself. Thousands of people reduced to stimulus. This is our world. Consumed alone in the dark, forgotten in like freaking seconds. Forgotten in seconds. That way of seeing it is not going to go in, you know, stay in that app that you opened, or that link that you tapped on. It is going to follow you out into the real world. You start pricing people instead of truly seeing them. And slowly, and quietly, it's going to do the same thing back onto you. You become smaller.
One of the monks named John Climacus had a phrase for what this makes a man, a slave in freedom. Nobody is forcing you.
The door is wide open, and you stay.
That's the trap, guys. and why it feels the way it feels at 2:00 in the morning or whatever time. Some part of you knows that this door was open the entire time.
It's not something you went and magically open yourself.
You are slave to your own freedom.
That's why I'm saying take that risk, change your life.
All this stuff, it's all gluttony and it all turns us back on ourselves, like eating too much.
It all goes back to the same thing. We have too much, we are slave to freedom.
Now, let's talk about the way out.
A little bit more hopeful. So, what was their way out?
Not white knuckling it. This is very important and they were adamant. You don't beat a passion by staring at it, you starve it. You have to aim that energy somewhere else. Every hour you spend building, you know, your body, a skill, your work, your discipline, it is an hour that that thing doesn't eat. So, every hour that you spend on these other things is an hour that your lust does not eat. The energy was never the problem. It is just fuel pointed at the wrong target. So, when you redirect it, it is going to build the exact man that you were trying to become. And the second thing, they never fought alone.
Never.
Isolation is where this thing feeds.
Secrecy is its oxygen. The more you keep it secret is the more it's going to breathe and and and build within you. Every monk had someone who knew his fight. So, tell one person, a friend, you know, a brother, anyone real. The moment it is spoken out loud, it is going to lose half of its power. Go try it. It's only going to win in the dark. You're not like uniquely broken. You are just unarmed, so I don't want you guys to like fall into despair. That's the last thing you want to do. I want you to understand that people go through this.
You are not alone. So, whatever you believe, these men spent their whole life and studied this one battle and what they left behind works. So, you can be honest with me in the comments. What stage are you in? There's no shame in here. The honest number is the first win, guys. Just talk about it.
Other people, this will be a very good way to help you guys. And obviously, you want to talk to people in person as well.
Peace out, guys. Be safe.
