The failure of Saros highlights the growing disconnect between massive corporate investment and actual player interest. It serves as a stark reminder that technical polish cannot compensate for a fundamental lack of market resonance.

CONFIRMED: Saros sales numbers were ABYSMAL. This boondoggle will cost Playstation a lot of $$Added:
What is up, space pirates? This is your admiral, the necessarily nefarious Dr. Disaster. And I just got to ask, how many millions of dollars is a company like PlayStation willing to flush down the toilet in order to try to prove to the gaming community that actually they know what gamers want more than the actual gamers.
>> Listen to me now.
>> I'd rather spit in your face.
>> SOS had people interested in it in the leadup to its release. Take a look at this article here from Gamer Rant where they note that SOS appears to be struggling to sell copies down here. In the second paragraph of this article, they wrote, "The hype surrounding SOS was quite high before its release, and it was consistently listed as one of the most anticipated PS5 games of 2026. And when its release date was pushed back from March to April, many fans saw it as a disappointment. However, now that the latest download charts are in, it appears the hype may not have translated into an immediate influx of players.
>> Well, what did you think was going to happen? The thing is, Sony has done this too many times where they force the character that people play as in their games to endure a humiliation ritual. In SOS, the main character is a piece of [ __ ] who cheated on his wife and then ended up murdering someone to cover it up. He gets caught anyhow and then his wife leaves him for a black lesbian woman and you spend the rest of the game trying to win your ex-wife back only to be rejected. And I got to ask, who in the hell wants to play a game like that?
Nobody likes you.
Everybody hates you.
You're going to lose. Well, folks, it looks like SOS did lose. PlayStation's commitment to denigrating and/or replacing male main characters in games these days has once again not resulted in big numbers. Despite the hype that game journalists are touting for this game, the news just dropped that after 2 weeks on the market, SOS has sold a measly 300,000 copies. according to a prominent analytics firm. And naturally, the PlayStation fanboys are calling the numbers into question, insisting that these can't possibly be correct. But even if they were off by literally half, the numbers that we are seeing are catastrophic for SOS, considering that now that the launch is over, sales are going to slow down drastically, which is always the case after a high-profile game like this launches. Once again, we have a PlayStation game that has underperformed drastically because people are sick of the incessant [ __ ] that these goons plug into all of their stories.
>> Your mother must be very proud.
>> Actually, no.
[ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] All right. Me hardies. Seros looks like it's struggling big time, but the mainstream media and the PlayStation stands are trying to make a bunch of excuses, if not just outright deny that the numbers are even correct. The problem is that given the reported development budget for this game, they could be way off and still SOS would be in big trouble. They could have sold double the amount of copies that's being reported and that would still be a situation where they will almost certainly never recover the tens of millions of dollars spent on this game.
You see, the budget is $76 million that they put out on development, and that does not include marketing, which I will freely admit was nowhere near the Blitz Craig of advertisements that we saw for something like Marathon, which makes sense because SOS is obviously nowhere near the same level of highprofile as something that was cranked out by Bungie. But still, I will bet that they dropped somewhere around another 10 million or so on advertising because I personally saw a good amount of ads in articles and videos that I looked at and the analytics firm suggests that the game has only brought in around $22 million on the number of copies that they've sold. Given that the enthusiasm for this game is only going to die down more from here, it looks like they will be way off when it comes to their ability to earn back the money that was spent on making SOS. And that is a very dangerous place to be in these days while existing as a studio under the Sony umbrella. Plenty of studios have been shut down in recent years and lots of employees have lost their jobs. With all that said, let's take a gander at this article here from Push Square where they deliver us all the specifics on this news while trying to make some excuses. It says down here in the article, SOS is off to a slow start.
According to sales estimates from Alana Analytics, which predict the title has sold around 300,000 copies since it launched approximately two weeks ago.
It's important to underline that this data is not an official number and comes courtesy of a source whose data has come under scrutiny. Some of its predictions have been within the right ballpark.
Others have been queried. We still don't know its exact methodology. And it's like I said, the Sony fans are calling into question Alana's estimates in order to support their worldview. Please take note that when these same people think that these numbers make Sony look good, then Alana is considered very trustworthy in their mind. However, they will turn on a dime if it doesn't make Sony look good. Anyhow, the article then says, "But if accurate, analyst Ree Elliot notes, sales may be slower than Returnal despite the PS5's vastly larger install base." And then at the bottom there, you can see the first bit of the guy's tweet where it says, "SOS has sold 300K in its first two weeks, generating over $22 million. Almost a third of those copies came during the early access period, which suggests that Housemark super fans are propping this one up. And that's pretty damning when you think about it. What this suggests is that the early access period happened. Videos came out showing the story in the game which repulsed a lot of people and then despite the hype that these game journalists were talking about which existed with SOS, nobody bought the damn thing. But anyhow, let's get to the big excuse that this article is trying to shovel onto us because of course Push Square is a massive PlayStation shill website. It says, "Housemark's previous game launched when Sony's current console was still relatively new, of course, and had an addressable audience of around 8 million consoles. That number sits at around 93.7 million now, according to PlayStation's own financial report. The difference is that the PS5 is a much richer ecosystem these days. Seros is competing against hundreds and hundreds of games. Whereas when Returnal launched, there was pentup enthusiasm for something new designed and built specifically for the hardware. So I want to make sure that I understand this correctly. When a game comes out with a small install base, then these people will use that fact as either an excuse as to why a game sold poorly or they will use it as a means to bolster how impressive sales were for a game that sold at least decently well. But now with this game, the install base is obviously very high. Lots of people own PS5s after being on the market for the better part of a decade. But now that can be used as an excuse because that just means that the game is competing against a lot of other games. Well, that is an adorable attempt to deflect away from failure. But here's the truth.
Games always have a lot of competition these days. And actually, considering that there weren't any other major releases coming out at the end of April when this thing launched, I would argue that they had a huge advantage over a lot of other games. And yet, they still managed to sell only around 300,000 copies. As I said before, even if they doubled that number and made it 600K, meaning that they would have taken in somewhere around $44 million, they would still be far off from the somewhere around $80 million that they need to break even. These people can make whatever excuses they want to, but let's just face it, this is pure copium that they are injecting into their veins.

And also, please consider becoming a member of the channel for as little as $5 per month. But I'm going to leave it there. SOS was a flop, and there's no getting around it. Why do you think this flop happened though? Drop your thoughts on all this into the comment section below and we will talk there. Thanks for watching me hardies.
