Downpours move into Boston — what to know about the heavy rain

[00:00:06]>> Well, you're probably going to have some issues.

[00:00:09]7:10, I think it's going to be It's not >> pretty much the big the downpour is going to be happening?

[00:00:14]>> It's definitely going to have downpours.

[00:00:15]It's whether or not lightning will be associated with it the downpours. Uh there will be some rain moving in, of course. Game could still go on. I'm not the one that makes that call, but we're just watching this very slow-moving area of rain uh coming into Boston. It's likely going to be here around 6:00-7:00 with thunderstorms trailing behind it as well. It also does have some lightning associated with it. So, as we're going through these next few hours watching that lightning very closely. The good news is there was more lightning when it was further south that could potentially continue trending and then we would just see an area of rain moving overhead rather than hearing those rumbles of thunder uh and having lightning associated with it. But, this system as it does move in, it's bringing very heavy rain to parts of Rhode Island and also still parts of Connecticut, parts of central Massachusetts. It's made its way into Worcester County and starting to see some moderate rain heading into the Boston area. Uh but at this time some lightning just west of Providence.

[00:01:14]That's the main area of lightning within this line at this moment. There are torrential downpours though in spots and likely that is going to continue as it continues moving. This is all the rainfall rates that we're seeing uh basically just south of us as this system slowly works its way uh over Boston. And within this, there's likely 1 to even 3-in precipitation rates per hour. It's when you get closer to those 3-in precipitation rates per hour where you start to see uh large-scale issues as far as flooding goes, why there is a flash flood warning in parts of Connecticut, but it's also just moving very slowly. So, I did highlight some spots between Providence and Putnam seeing precipitation rates just under 2-in per hour and then an area just north of Putnam seeing an inch and a half per hour. So as that continues to slowly move we're watching the threat for especially wind. That's likely why we would see any warnings other than areas of high water, but if we do see a severe thunderstorm warning that would mean that wind gusts within the thunderstorm around 60 mph. So as this continues moving overhead we're likely going to see those downpours continuing between now and 5:00 is when the heaviest rain comes in. Moving fairly slowly 7:00 that it's going to be very iffy whether that game is good to go as far as the weather's concerned or not because between 7:00 and 9:00 we're still seeing a few areas of storms in the picture. By midnight we start to clear things out. If you're along the Cape or the islands your rain chances could linger until we go around 2:00 3:00 in the morning and then most of the day tomorrow mainly dry starting off the morning with dry conditions but then a few isolated thunderstorms will be popping up as we head into the afternoon and the evening. So that Fenway forecast likely going to look a little wet 7:10 temperatures in the middle 70s. It's whether or not we still have some lightning with that system as it keeps moving towards the north and east and those temperatures in the low 70s between 9:00 and 10:00 as well. So still have those rain chances but they go down as we get closer to 10:00 and then eventually closer to midnight tomorrow. Looking at temperatures in the middle 80s an isolated storm is possible today though definitely seeing widespread rain chances widespread storm chances rather than tomorrow it's just going to be little cells that have the potential to pop up here and there. And then Thursday 80° for temperatures.

[00:03:33]We're seeing a cooler trend as the weekend comes closer. Sea breezes coming into Boston so right at the coast especially with temperatures upper 70s Friday, Saturday and Sunday and then into next week we're going to see rain chances returning on Monday, but that is leaving us with a dry weekend.
