Pop-up thunderstorms form when warm land temperatures create pressure differences with cooler water, triggering sea breeze effects that combine with tropical moisture to produce isolated afternoon storms that dump significant rainfall in localized areas.

Pop-Up storm chances this weekAdded:
Work around it.
>> Something else fun to find in the sargassum is uh they call them like mermaid purses, uh but it's it's usually stingray, sometimes shark like egg sacks. So, um that's pretty cool.
>> I saw also saw that on beachcombing little treasure >> [laughter] >> box.
>> Little treasure trove.
>> Yeah, yeah, very cool and you don't see those every day. So, >> [music] >> you never know what you're going to find out there and uh the water outside of all those sargassum is beautiful, but you can see this is Port Aransas. It's not quite as thick there as it is on the south side of uh the Packery Channel. So, you've got Packery Channel on Padre Island that separates Mustang Island from Padre Island. And on the south side of Packery Channel, that's where the pile-ups are.
On the north side of Packery Channel, I surfed there yesterday. It was beautiful. There's very little seaweed in the water. There were a couple of uh jellyfish or something that does sting out in the water. I felt that. Uh but right now, this is our line of seaweed or sargassum there. Uh it is an algae more so than a seaweed, but showing up on our Port Aransas uh coastal park's beach camera this evening. Wave action is lightened up a bit. 85Β° right now with an onshore easterly wind. We will see the wind shift a little bit out of the east-southeast, but it actually is looking pretty light and variable overnight. As we head into the evening, temperature still in the 80s around 10:00 p.m. It is going to be a muggy night, y'all. We'll still have feel like temperatures around 90 this evening. So, we have seen a few pop-up storms this afternoon. We could see a few spotty showers early on Tuesday. Additionally, there may be some patchy fog. I do think it may be a little bit worse as we head into tomorrow morning, but watch out, a spotty shower can't be ruled out mostly north of 281, uh but closer to Matagorda Bay, but overall, rain chance is pretty low. We see pop-up thunderstorms with the help of the sea breeze, but we have more more easterly flow instead of a southeast flow. but with the help of that sea breeze where it's really warm on the land, not quite as warm over the water, and that pressure difference helps allow some storms to pop up. We also have a lot of tropical moisture, so that is allowing these storms to dump a decent amount of rainfall. There's been some areas in the Brooks County and Jim Hogg County where we've seen a half an inch to an inch of rain from one of those pop-up storms today. So, that's possible again into Tuesday. As we get into Wednesday, our coverage may go up, not so much in the morning. May wind up being a little bit more patchy low clouds or patchy fog, but as we get into Wednesday afternoon, coverage is trending higher on Wednesday afternoon. That's because there is actually a weak front that's going to be kind of flirting with our area. So, what your weather impact headlines or takeaways from this forecast should be as we get a daily chance of pop-up thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon this week. More coverage trending on Wednesday, and this is the type of activity where your neighbor could see an inch of rain, you could see absolutely nothing. So, these storms they don't really move that much. They pop up, they rain out, and then they're done. There could be some outflow boundaries that trigger more storms. It may get a little breezy, but overall it's just a downpour in an isolated areas. Now, our rainfall forecast throughout the week does keep a decent amount of rain in the watershed, especially the northern watershed, but the coastal bend may be missing out on some of the heaviest rain. So, you'll see that here. I'm going to pause this every afternoon, pop-up thunderstorms.
The front gets closer, a little bit more activity showing up on our Wednesday.
Then what we're going to notice is an upper-level low moving in. That's going to send in some of that upper-level energy, but right now it looks like, you know, when we were talking about jet streaks and things like that, that may target areas across the northern watershed into the hill country more so than South Texas, but can't rule it out yet. We still have a daily chance of rain mostly in the afternoon and evening, and then it starts to shift a little bit more off to our east. That's been up that may try to form in the Gulf. That looks like it'll target areas a little bit more east than us as well, but we do have the tropical moisture in play, which keeps us with a chance of rain daily. I think our best days to see some decent coverage or 40% scattered opportunity of rain would be Wednesday and Friday. As far as tonight goes, 75Β° muggy, a very low chance for some shower activity. 90Β° tomorrow with those pop-up thunderstorms. And heat index is something we've got to talk about. Our wind is staying pretty light outside of any pop-up thunderstorm. That heat index value around 101. So, it is going to be hot. Could be around 104 there in Fellsmere. And in your 7-day forecast, it is I've restarted the computer, so it is going to be slow to load in. I had to get the beach camera up. We'll see 20% chance of rain there on your Tuesday.
Temperature staying right around 90 all week long.
