What is New USCIS Reform, Affects Millions of Immigrants? EAD Work Permit | Green Card News | DHSAdded:
Hello everyone. Welcome back to our channel US immigration reform. DHS reviewing green cards, what immigrants need to know in 2026. Welcome back everyone. Today we're talking about a very sensitive immigration topic that has many people worried across the US.
There are growing reports that the DHS is reviewing green card holders more aggressively and many immigrants are asking the same question. Who could lose their residency? That headline sounds alarming, but today we're going to break everything down carefully, explain what's really happening and separate facts from fear. Stay with us until the end because there are several important immigration updates you absolutely need to know. Legal residents under scrutiny.
One of the biggest developments involves lawful permanent residents, people who already have a green card. According to reports, a special DHS unit has been created to review old immigration cases and reopen files where fraud or errors may have occurred during the original approval process. The government says the purpose is to identify individuals who may have obtained residency illegally or through fraudulent information. Officials claim the focus is not on ordinary immigrants who followed the rules, but rather on cases involving false documents, fake marriages, identity fraud, or national security concerns. Some high-profile cases have been mentioned publicly as examples of the type of investigations being reviewed. Because of this, many green card holders are now nervous about what could happen next. But here's the important part many people on social media are not telling you. The actual numbers are much smaller than the rumors online suggest. Reports indicate that more than 3,000 green card cases have already been reviewed. Out of those cases, only around 2% were considered serious enough to potentially lead to deportation proceedings. That means for every 100 files examined, only about two showed major irregularities. That statistic matters because there is a lot of misinformation spreading online claiming that massive numbers of residents are losing their status. At least based on current reports, that is not what the numbers show. We covered this topic in our previous video link in the description. Please watch it. Fraud investigations and social media warnings. The administration continues defending these investigations by saying they are targeting fraud and protecting national security. Immigration authorities are also warning immigrants to be careful about their online activity. Permanent residents are being advised not to post support for extremist or terrorist organizations and to avoid content that could raise security concerns during reviews of their immigration history. Another issue receiving attention is tax compliance.
There are ongoing discussions about cooperation between immigration authorities and the IRS to identify possible fraud or financial violations.
Immigration experts continue reminding immigrants that unpaid taxes or unresolved IRS issues can create serious complications in immigration cases. If someone owes taxes and cannot afford to pay immediately, professionals recommend entering a payment plan instead of ignoring the debt completely.
>> [music] >> Ignoring tax problems can create unnecessary immigration risks in the future. Major change for work permit renewals. Now, let's move to another critical update affecting immigrants with work permits. A major protection involving employment authorization documents, also known as work permits, has changed. Previously, many immigrants benefited from an automatic extension when renewing their permits. In some situations, the extension could last up to 540 days, giving applicants extra protection while waiting for USCIS processing. But that policy changed for renewal applications submitted on or after October 30th, 2025. This is extremely important because USCIS processing delays continue to be a serious problem in 2026. Some renewal applications are taking more than 6 months to process. Here's the danger. If your work permit expires and you do not qualify for the automatic extension anymore, you could temporarily lose authorization to work legally in the United US. Many people make the mistake of waiting until the last minute to renew their documents. Some don't even realize their permit is about to expire until it's too late. USCIS is now strongly recommending that immigrants submit renewal applications at least 180 days or 6 months before expiration.
Officials are basically treating the timeline as mandatory because processing delays remain unpredictable. If you submitted your renewal before October 30th, 2025, you may still qualify for the longer automatic extension. But applications filed after that date face the new rules. The message here is simple. Check your expiration dates immediately and don't wait. Important biometrics appointment update. There's also an important update for immigrants with pending applications who must attend biometric appointments for fingerprints and photographs. USCIS now allows many people to reschedule biometric appointments online through their USCIS account instead of calling by phone or sending requests through [music] the mail. This can save enormous amounts of time because phone wait times are often extremely long. However, there are limits to the online system. You cannot reschedule online if your appointment has already been changed two or more times. You also cannot use the online system if your appointment is less than 12 hours away. EAD work permit, the 180-day rule that could cost you your job in the US.
>> [music] >> Major changes are affecting thousands of immigrants in the US. USCIS officially ended the temporary policy that allowed automatic extensions of EAD work permits beyond 180 days in certain cases. Now, if your renewal application is not approved before the 180-day limit expires, you immediately lose legal authorization to work until a new EAD is issued. Employers may be forced to suspend workers during delays. USCIS urges applicants to file Form I-765 as early as possible to avoid interruptions. The rule mainly impacts asylum applicants, adjustment of status applicants with pending Form I-485 cases, and some international students.
First-time applicants must also submit Form I-765.
However, permanent residents and certain work visa holders already have automatic work authorization. In those situations, applicants must contact USCIS directly to request assistance. The biggest lesson from all these updates is this: >> [music] >> Immigration rules are changing quickly, and waiting until the last minute can create serious problems. Stay informed, monitor your documents carefully, and handle every immigration process early and responsibly. Okay, like, subscribe, and turn on notifications for more immigration updates.
