M6.3 Earthquake Strikes Remote China – 1 Dead, 4 Injured in Qinghai | Shallow Thrust Quake

[00:00:05]They had a very strong earthquake there in China near that place see province a magnitude 6.3 earthquake. It is hard getting information out of China because of the censoring.

[00:00:20]People can't get reports out, but right now I haven't found any news articles showing you know the shaking, but they are reporting one person dead, so you know it's greater than that and four people injured. This is near the edge of the Tibet Plateau.

[00:00:41]It is a sparse area, but more likely because of the structures of the buildings, they do have major collapses and a lot of damage. Yeah. Here you can see the plateau there. The earthquake occurred at 5:06 um p.m. local time. There is a mine there.

[00:01:03]They're saying that all the people that were working in the mine um got out safely.

[00:01:10]Again, I only take what Chinese media says with a grain of salt. There was a magnitude 5.2 earthquake about 30 minutes after the main shock of the 6.3.

[00:01:25]There was also a 5.4 4.7, a 5.0 a 4.9. So far USGS is reporting a total of six earthquakes.

[00:01:38]And they're all about the same depth about 6 to 7 miles and this was in fact a thrust earthquake. That's where one side of the fault rises up over the other.

[00:01:49]And yeah, the dark blue is all tension.

[00:01:54]Here you can see the fault here. Yeah, they had quite a bit of uplift. USGS says for the city of Golmud, which has about 215,000 people, would have been intensity level four.

[00:02:10]Also, Bang Chan, which has a population of 10,000, intensity level four.

[00:02:19]And they got another one here, intensity level four.

[00:02:24]And this is the their map for intensity levels.

[00:02:30]So, close to the area of the epicenter, it would have been intensity level seven.

[00:02:36]And then we got light blue and green.

[00:02:40]Um that would have been um moderate shaking.

[00:02:44]The Chinese government did send out about 320 personnel, including search dogs, um to the surrounding area.

[00:02:54]I you wouldn't send uh search dogs unless there was collapsed buildings.

[00:03:00]Um this is probably the closest location here.

[00:03:06]Yeah, I don't think the Google truck went to this location to look at the types of structures that they might have had.

[00:03:15]Poor people, sending prayers to those in China.

[00:03:24]Um This almost looks like an airport right here.

[00:03:31]So, I wonder what kind of damage they might have had there.

[00:03:36]It could be for the mining operations, I don't know.

[00:03:40]They got a lot of hangers here, it looks like, though.
