Fort McMurray is on evacuation alert over an ice jam

A 25 kilometer long ice jam on the Aabaska River could cause flooding. 140 people who live in Draper have been told they should be ready to evacuate on short notice. The ice jam has caused the Aabaska River to rise. It comes days after drivers near Fort McMurray were trapped on highways during a sudden spring snowstorm. An evacuation order could be triggered if water levels continue to go up. There's two roadways that are impacted by the by the water levels right now, meaning water's over top of the road. So, it's more amount a me uh I guess a concern around egress, making sure that if the water levels get too high that they can get out. People who live in Draper are urged to prepare a 72-hour emergency kit and to make an emergency
