When seeking concussion information, individuals must critically evaluate the credibility of sources because anyone can claim to be a 'concussion expert' without proper certification or credentials, and outdated or inaccurate advice from unqualified sources can be dangerous; always verify that information comes from legitimate medical professionals with current, evidence-based knowledge.

Beware The “Concussion Expert”Added:
With that vast amount of information, comes one of the most negative side effects of social media, and that's the concussion expert, right? The guru, right? We we see it in a lot of different things, especially in the health and wellness space. You see people talking about what I should eat, what I shouldn't eat, what exercises I should do, what I shouldn't do. There's no real expectation, there's nothing really that stops anybody from calling themselves a concussion expert. There's not, right? There's no one special certification, there's no one special test. And I get at the end of the day, the internet is full of people who, hey, legally that may not be the best thing to do, and they still do it because they want to put that information out there.
They want to go viral, they want to be an influencer. Well, the concussion expert that you're following, how do I know that that person knows what they're talking about? I see it a lot in the healthcare world. I'll get people that's like, well, I went to this person and they're a concussion specialist. And then they tell me the information they were given is to sit and rest and not do anything. Okay, well, they may be a concussion specialist because they treat the concussions for their practice, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the information that they have is the most accurate and up-to-date. And that can be really, really dangerous.
