This video argues that Ghana's gold mining industry should be controlled by local companies rather than foreign multinational corporations, as foreign companies tend to sell concessions to other companies when permits expire, preventing the state from retaining control over national resources. The speaker emphasizes that when mining permits expire, concessions should return to the state, which should then determine whether to sell or operate the resource itself. The video highlights the economic significance of companies like Goldfields Ghana, which generates billions in profits annually, and suggests that diplomatic intervention between Ghana and South Africa may be necessary to address these resource sovereignty concerns.

Engineers & Planners vs Foreign Mining Giants: Who Deserves Ghana’s Gold?追加:
There is no beating around the bush with this when it comes to gold in Ghana.
This has to be the end of the road for them. And for every one of the multinational companies mining gold in Ghana, once their permits expire, that should be it. No negotiations, no extensions. And you know what they do after making billions from mining our gold? when they see the permits are nearing expirations, then they sell to another company, which now makes it look like a completely new business. This should be disallowed, ladies and gentlemen. Once your permit expires, you shouldn't have the right to sell the concession. The concession must go back to the state. The state should be the one to determine whether to sell or run it. Ladies and gentlemen, we have to mean business with our resources in this country. You have to love this country and do what's in the interest of its people in the long term. Ladies and gentlemen, and I have a suspicion that the president of South Africa has called Ghana's president to sort this goldfields Ghana thing out. I'm 100% sure such a call has happened. And if it hasn't, that will make the president of South Africa completely nonchalant about whatever happens with the businesses that contributes the most to the South African economy. And here is why. This company, Goldfields Ghana, it makes billions of dollars in profits every year. I don't know how much in taxes they pay on the side of South Africa, but definitely it wouldn't be small.
Ladies and gentlemen, when such organizations have challenges overseas, it's usually the job of the president through the high commissioner to intervene. So, I'm so sure such a call has come through already to our president. But here this Mr. President, your excellency John Rammani Mahama, it's a matter of who side you are on, Ghana or foreigners.
Everybody is watching you and I encourage you to choose Ghana.
