Video Diary on the Farm No.217
Added:Good morning, everybody. Welcome back to video diary on the farm. A better day today, even though it's only a It's a Sunday, it's a better day cuz we're spraying. We're going to get uh all the T3s about finished off today, which is good cuz it's dragged on with the uh weather being inclement as it it has been and very windy.
Uh yeah, as I said last week, this week's video is mainly about cereals, uh 2026. Um yeah, it was a good event.
Um rather soggy on day two, but luckily we went on day one and we only got a couple of showers and it wasn't bad on the foot. Well, it soon dried up. It's It's funny land up there. It soon gets wet and sticky, but when the wind and sun comes out, it it soon dries. Yeah, we had a good day.
Um yeah, we did the AgriAid uh song and with the aid of the Breeding School Choir and uh yeah, it was absolutely brilliant. It was all buzzing and uh yeah, the reason the reason it was full um probably people have seen the video to it. Uh well, there is a full-length video of the whole song coming up on a future video in a couple of weeks um cuz I'm on holiday end of this week, but it'll be there and uh I no doubt it's on the socials, everybody's social. So, yeah, and I'm going to put a QR code at the beginning of the video. Uh if anybody wants to donate to the cause, it'll go to the uh Farming Community Network or just giving page um and they uh they'll help in mental awareness in agriculture, which we all know is really important these days cuz of the long hours spent on your own and that. Uh so, yeah, if you can afford anything, just uh yeah, pop over on the scan the QR code and pop over to that page. Anyway, we'll get on.
Oh, we we had some more serious lunch delivered. I'll just put a quick bit of that that on before cereals. But, uh yeah, we're getting quite a few tons on the farm now. They're having to tip it into fields in the crops again. But uh yeah, it's all good stuff. Anyway, I hope you'll uh enjoy the video and uh yeah, we'll see you at the end.
All right, we've got Robinson's back again. Bringing some more sludge.
He's tipping it in the corner of uh yeah, this rape field here.
They're They're just setting up.
Look at these in the mats out at the minute.
Each mat. Look at the thickness of them.
How thick they are.
They weigh about 300 kg a piece, then.
You won't want them dropping on you, anyway.
Yeah, he's just been telling me they actually run two wagons like this.
Tw- And he He's using it all the time and he has nights out and he averages five jobs a day picking up laid out mats. And uh averages about 300 miles a day. And he was out at Penrith the other day.
Then he come back into Yorkshire for another job. And then he had to go down to King's Lynn to drop mats there. They're all over the place. I tell you, it's a big operation this for Robinson's. But I didn't realize they run two of these setups because uh yeah, shows you there's some work on.
That's another load of sewage sludge delivered. That's where the Hiab was unloading.
There's uh maybe 700 ton there, just over. And then we've got another heap in another corner, another rape field field. Uh another what came with this when they did this one. About another 300 ton there, maybe 250, 300. I don't know, somewhere around there. Anyway, yeah, for rape spreading.
Rape's right.
Stands to ripen. They'll do good crops these rapes, so yeah.
Fingers crossed for a good harvest.
That's the other one.
Just to another right field as I said.
This small one.
Looming rooks, they're attacking the bottom of one of the barley field winter barley fields. As you can see they're causing a lot of damage. Anyway, George has put a gas gun out to keep them off. But yeah, just look at the detail of the It's packed it in paddled it down in the to They're destroying it so we have to do something.
Well, we're all set for a bit of an adventure.
We're all off down to cereals the day before or the afternoon before let's put it that way. And uh We're off. We're stopping in a travel no, Premier Inn not Travelodge Premier Inn.
Uh for the night and then we're very near the cereals site so we shall be in nice and early without having too far to drive. And then we're we're stopping another night before we go home.
Because uh yeah, it's fair drive down for us. So just to break the journey up and make us all fresh in fact. So that's why we're doing it.
All right, we're ready. We're off.
Bloody big legs.
>> [laughter] >> Yeah, it's all right George.
We're ready.
Well, we are when we get sorted.
Diddly squat.
>> [laughter] >> No, not today. Well, we've arrived.
Yeah, nice room.
Yeah, the bathroom.
Very nice.
On the ground floor.
Good view out there I think.
That's a pub. So I think we'll be heading there which is good. We need some food as well. Uh So, yeah.
We're all salted.
Will we get up in the morning?
>> Probably not.
>> Probably not, but anyway, we're having a good time tonight.
Well, we're nearly there.
But, to me, that looks a bit muddy.
It don't look good.
Yeah, and it's raining. I don't know if you can see in front of the camera, it's coming down. But, uh yeah, we're nearly there.
>> It's going to be tomorrow before we get in the minute.
>> Yeah, everybody's getting their wellies on.
>> Yeah.
>> I can't speak to him.
Hey, how are you?
Well, we just got in the show, but we've been treated to a bit of a demonstration of the Aquasun, the auto stack.
Yeah, he's picking the bales up, I reckon. That will be turned up tonight, but it's good how it turns them. But, he's picking them up the same way as the drum line. Yeah, I've got a nudge bar on the front of them.
Well, yeah, he's laid them out all the way up the field.
When the JCB bring to pick up, then he's going to stack them, tip them again, and he'll keep doing that all day.
There you go. Up he goes.
Good lad.
It's a little bit clay in the access roads.
But, uh chipping's down.
Not bad at the minute, anyway.
It's just a view of the sprays and sprayer ring.
And a nice flower strip around there outside.
Uh they'll be in the ring in a minute, which he's Yeah, he's a long way off.
Nice team sprayer. Like, how old is that?
Yeah.
Yeah, just to say. Let's see if it's got stickers on the back.
No, it doesn't.
It's a drone in there.
Are you going to stand next to it for scale, John?
Are you going to stand next to it for scale?
Yeah.
Yeah, that was a big machine, that.
How old are you?
Able to park it on its wheels.
This is the Sams coming down here.
This is the Infinity.
Yeah, top of the range sprayer.
Top of the range sprayer. 6,000 L or maybe 5,000.
Yeah, I reckon there's going to be some tracks in there by the end of the day.
Right turn, these boom ends are lifted off.
She's whipping around.
Yeah.
Getting dizzy, aren't they, when they go around and around like that?
>> which is our PFM pulse width frequency modulation.
Unique to us.
We are the only ones to vary the frequency when spraying.
We operate between 0 and 100 Hz, meaning the nozzle can go on to off one not to 100 times per second.
Generally, we operate in a range of 30 to 70, depending on speed, application, and turning.
>> Cameras on the boom, right?
They're looking at weeds in front of the crop, spaced at 1 m, so to say.
They're picking weeds out for spot spraying, so to speak.
This is the future.
>> Meaning we have >> a robo dog.
When you have a robo dog, a robo dog, yeah.
They're doing plant counts and also walking the fields. Well, soon be redundant.
Huh.
There we are. Here's our robo dog in action.
>> No, no, you can buy these >> They're waving to us.
Brilliant, huh?
Flying on the straight now.
Brilliant, huh?
For all you John Deere lovers, they have got an 8R X.
I think this is the new John Deere 6R.
That's 250.
So, I believe there's a 260 coming out.
Yeah.
410 310 That's some good models.
Yeah.
New John Deere sprayers.
So, um 7R 310, yeah.
Here we are, the John Deere's new sprayer.
Yeah, it will.
Yeah, it'll be replaced.
>> No, no.
>> There's a little McDon header here. All right, it's in flex mode.
It's similar to our header on the class.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Looks impressive.
So any clearance on that or how well it jacks itself up or not?
Yeah.
Look at this RoGator X sprayer. Anyway, we're going to talk to Tom and he's going to tell us about it. But, uh yeah, interesting technology which is probably be better on the veg boys at the minute, high value crop cuz I think what do you say, 140,000 for this? A lot of money with a lot of technology on it as you'll hear in a minute.
>> So, it's from Germany.
>> Yeah.
>> an AI spot sprayer.
>> Yeah.
>> So, this machine we have here we have is our what we call the RoGator RX 900.
>> Yeah.
>> RX F 900.
>> Does that mean 9 m?
>> Yes, 9 m machine.
>> Yeah.
>> So, this is what they we we call our arable version.
>> Yeah.
>> UK mainly would would be mainly veg veg crops.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> We've got 222 >> Is that what it's aimed at, veg crops I suppose, high value?
>> No, no. We don't want to pigeonhole it that way. It will At the moment, the algorithms It's all built on AI, so the algorithms are there. So, the more you do in certain crops, the more we can find, the more crops we'll be able to do.
>> Yeah.
>> At the moment, a lot of the best best ones we've got are uh chicory uh >> Yeah.
>> onions, carrots, sugar beet. Uh parsley, spinach.
>> Yeah. So, that would work on. Yeah. So, so it's based on AI. So, there's What is it you're saying the little chap there's 40 mm apart the nozzles?
>> The nozzles are 40 mm apart.
>> Yeah.
>> They have a 15° angle and 200 mm per nozzle at 5 bar.
>> Right.
>> So, they're constantly the pump will constantly run the chemical around the system.
>> All right, yeah.
>> The cameras here do 100 T flops.
Which is uh a trillion flow of operations per second.
>> Spin it.
>> So, it does 100 trillion things a second.
>> So, that is fast. So, it's monitoring the weeds ahead of it just before it gets to them.
>> Yeah. It picks up the crop. It knows what crop it's in.
>> Yeah.
>> And then it picks up what weeds there are.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> And then within it's got to look forward and look down.
Within that time, it will spray it as it goes past.
>> Brilliant. That's amazing, that.
>> And you can point the AI. If you want to set it on, it's all tablet based on that iPad or Samsung tablet.
You can decide whether it wants to hit the center of the plant or go around the plant.
>> Really? It's that accurate. Yeah. So, if you want the center, you maybe just shoot one nozzle straight down.
Yeah.
Yeah.
>> So, >> Yeah. It sorts itself out. That's brilliant, that. And that's all the tank. It'd be fairly neat chemical in the tank, is it? Or is that just normal mix?
>> You still have to normal mix regulation wise.
>> Yeah.
>> But you would um There's a tertiary tank where we do offer the option of a bigger >> Big tank as well.
>> as a transfer system as well.
>> Yeah.
That's brilliant, that. Well, thank Yeah.
>> Each unit has 43,000 lumens as well.
>> Yeah.
>> It's 21 21 21 and 1/2 hours per side.
>> Yeah.
>> So, a lot of the light bars you see going on trucks these days and stuff like that will be 1,000 lumens.
>> Right. So, that is bright. And it needs that to illuminate the weeds >> Yeah, just illuminate and just clarify a lot more of what's going on.
>> Yeah.
>> It's not a hooded design. We don't need to be hooded >> No.
>> to make our cameras work.
>> No. All right. Well, that's brilliant.
Thank you very much. Yeah, thank you.
>> All right, it's a Deutz. It's a little like a fast track though.
And you look at it from the front, the cab.
This is Weaving stand.
It's their new 12-m drill, Weaving Sabre drill.
Everybody's going bigger.
So, it's with demand. People want it or they won't be making it. But, yeah.
It's got the good fat saver times cultures on it, which are well-proven.
It's a well-built drill, to be honest.
Yeah, heavy. They're Unimogs.
Oh, that's good.
Hey, how are you, George?
How about that? For George.
First spreader on the back.
First spreader on the back of this Unimog.
That'll get you back to the yard quick.
>> Yeah, this is what they call a nudge bar.
>> [snorts] >> It's like the Equus and doesn't need one, but this one you nudge the bale with this outside and it turns the bale sideways so you can keep in the wheelings. And it's specially designed for controlled traffic systems, this one is.
>> Well, it had to be done.
Caleb Cooper Contracting.
He's got his own stand with this K2 spreader.
He's got a 260 Puma on it. But, I think it's been on towing duties, to be honest.
And then, he's got his new forage harvester.
Even it looks muddied up, so looks like it may have been doing a bit of work or it's been towing people about.
I think it's series.
>> You don't know what the wheel is for then.
>> Yeah.
Sounds nice.
Well, it'd be rude not to.
>> [music] >> Here I am at this Farmers Dell. Pop, pop, pop.
Anyway, we've just stopped for some refreshment.
Uh we're having a drink.
It's hard work this show going.
>> [music] >> And we've got Diddly Farm shop.
I had to queue in there to go in there.
But it's busy.
Yeah, this is a nice forklift, 542 100.
4.2 tons to 10 m.
It's high.
Yeah.
Nice cab on it.
I don't think I can get in it, but uh yeah, better than the one we had on this farm this cuz it's got a curved screen going right round and there's no bar stopping you where it was on that other one we had that 9 Is it 936?
So, yeah.
A 5 3 5 3 5, sorry.
Yeah, it's got a leveling ram on the there to level it up to keep it stable.
Yeah.
Looks a good machine.
I'd give it a try on this harvest.
Look at the new Fastrac 600 series.
It's strong.
It's strong.
I'll bet they will sell well.
335 horsepower.
Yeah.
>> Nice looking machine.
Well, it's getting near the singing time. So, we're just outside of Farmers Weekly tent in the background and the children and yeah, we're all getting ready to go around and perform.
This is the QR code for the JustGiving page if you want to donate.
There'll be a full video as I said coming up with the uh song in a later video.
But, uh please feel free to uh support the cause. It's a great cause, it is.
Yeah, well, we've just done the song, I'll be there. Well, I'm glad it's over but we've really got the good message across and yeah, big thanks to the Breeding School choir that's in the background there.
Uh and everybody else here that's here.
Um yeah.
It's been good. Yeah, we're all good.
We've all got t-shirts on as you can see.
Yeah.
Hope you support it.
Here we are, PX farm.
Yeah, look at that.
She's got the dreams. Well, the sorry, the lorry of dreams. Anyway, we're going for a drink.
Now, that's a spreader and a half, Agri Spread.
Look at that lorry.
It's a tire inflation.
>> [sighs and gasps] >> And man, it's a brand new one.
Yeah.
I like the shovel digging out.
Yeah.
Want to spread too.
This on the back, obviously.
Oh, yeah. That will plow apply some compound or whatever.
Very quickly and smoothly. Yeah, all four-wheel drive course here.
>> That's on the bank. Let it tick over.
He's got a torque converter anyway, so give it a little bit of um inching on. That's it. There we go. And then just let it tick over by itself. Up we go a little bit. Up we go. Up we go.
That's it.
That's it. Slowly. Let it tick over. Let it tick over. Let it tick over. Let it tick over. That's it. All right, a little bit. Yeah. You can see the bank, can't you?
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. Yes, you can.
>> Okay.
>> Yes. Yes, it Yeah, go. Round we go.
Round we go. That's it. Beautiful.
This is off.
That's it. Round it goes. Round it goes.
Oh, yes.
>> Is that three wheels then when you come off that bank?
>> Yes. Yeah. Yeah.
Perfect.
And then we go into the cross section of the bank. So, as we go up the hill on the right-hand side, you're going to stop halfway up, okay? Right.
That's it. Keep going. Round we go.
Round we go. Round we go. Round we go.
Little bit of gas now. Little bit of gas. Come on.
And start to unwind your steering wheel.
As we go up, that's it. Good. Keep going. Another one. Another one. Round.
Another one. Round. That's it. And stop.
Brake.
Off the brake. Away you go.
Hill assist that.
That's it. Don't turn left.
>> No. No.
>> That's it.
>> I go off to the side.
>> The gentle on the brake now. Brake.
Brake a bit more. Brake a bit more.
Brake a bit more. Brake a bit more. Now, off the brake completely. Off everything. Go.
>> Actually confident there.
>> Yeah.
>> Round we go.
Round we go. That's it. Again, you probably can't see.
>> I can't know.
>> That's allowed.
That's nice and slow then. That's it.
Nice and slow. That's it. Good.
Round we go. Round we go. Round Round to the right now. That's it.
Spot on.
I'm just going to have a look at the soil pit.
The soil pit is very very interesting, this.
Look at that.
Yeah, not a lot of top soil there.
And look at the stone.
Make a good quarry, this, wouldn't it, Andrew? Oh, it's a 12 in thick there, and that's maybe a lot of top soil compared with some places, isn't it? The roots are getting down well out of there.
Yeah, they're getting well down into the pit. Yeah, into the stone. Yeah, look, they're coming Oh, they're coming Yeah, they're coming down here.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Amazing.
It's amazing how they're penetrating into it, through it.
Cuz it's like in a layer of platelets.
Yeah.
Yeah, not.
Well, we're on our way back to the Premier Inn. We've We've had a good day.
It's been good, hasn't it?
Everybody's tired, yeah. Yeah, hang on.
Turn around, yeah. Everybody's put thumbs up, yeah.
And we've only had one really good shower, which isn't bad, and the car parks have held up because it It's amazing how fast it dried here.
Yeah.
Dry. Anyway, we'll show the walkway to main road when we get out, but we say I think today was the best day, to be honest, the Wednesday.
As you can see, the walkways or the runways, sorry, have dried up a hell of a lot from this morning. Nice breeze.
Yeah.
Definitely the best day today.
Hope it don't rain for everybody tomorrow, but uh it's looking like it.
Well, I hope you've enjoyed this video from Cereals at Jeremy Clarkson's Diddly Squat Farm. We've had a good day, haven't we, lads?
Yeah. Yeah. So, uh yeah, interesting, and we've kept dry. So, yeah, thank you very much for watching and as always, please hit that like, share, and subscribe. And yeah, we'll catch you again next week.
