DOLLY (2025) Ending Explained本站添加:
How's it going folks? Welcome to Foundflixick. On this indie explained, we're looking at Dolly, where a couple's hiking trip turns fatal when they stumble onto the sacred ground of Dolly, a masked deranged figure who captures the girlfriend and forces her to live as her baby. Dolly is a grimy grindhouse throwback that definitely delivers. The obvious big point of reference is Texas Chainsaw Massacre. You got a big hulking killer with a shovel instead of a chainsaw. Their redneck family living out in the remote woods. All that kind of stuff is lifted straight from that classic. The filmmakers really wanted to evoke the feeling of that era and even shot the movie on 16 mm film. The vibes are immaculate, but it's not without its flaws. The story is very straightforward and the characters don't get much chance to develop once Dolly enters the picture. But Dolly herself is something unique while building on what has come before. And we'll be looking at some of those lingering questions about Dolly's origins. So, let's check out Dolly.
breaking down the story, including what we do learn about the killer, the important themes of motherhood, and explaining the ending. A strange sort of poem sets the somewhat fairy tale vibe to our twisted story. In the woods, a mother cried and wished for a love long deny. She soon appeared, a child of grace, till evil struck with this dark embrace. The girl now hides behind a mask to raise her own at long last. More on all that later, but this does give us some insight into just who Dolly is. We see her for herself as she enters a bedroom. dawned in combat boots. She hobbles uneasily, her feet pointed inwards, and it appears that there's blood all over the walls. A group of flies buzz around, and Dolly sways back and forth on the bed. Of course, there's a bunch of weird dolls on display out all over the place. We don't quite see all of Dolly just yet, but she is huge, built like a freaking linebacker. It does make sense as Dolly is played by Max the Impaler, an actual wrestler who is known as the non-binary nightmare.
Quite an imposing figure to say the least. Dolly's hands are caked in blood and she takes the corpse's hand into her own and tenderly caresses it. We pull out seeing the body is missing a head.
The play swarming with flies. Yesesh. It appears that this is Dolly's mother and well, someone definitely cut her head off. Any guesses? Already establishing the important theme of motherhood. Our first chapter in the tale is dubbed what else? Mother. Exploring another side of motherhood. We meet Eevee and Macy who get along like gang busters, cracking jokes and playing a heated game of thumb war. They exchange Eskimo kisses and tells her, "We'll see you tomorrow, biscuit." And based on that, we think it must be your kid. Nope. Her boyfriend Chase drops her off at her aunt Sades.
Sounds like Chase is planning on proposing on their trip, admitting to Satie that he's good, but definitely super nervous. Meanwhile, Macy's on the phone with her friend or maybe sister, and the cat is already out of the bag.
She found the ring. Chase details his plan for proposing, pretty much just taking her to a scenic view, and well, that's about it. Sadie encourages that of course she'll say yes. He's a great man and a great father. Macy has doubts and is considering actually saying no.
But her friend knows better. She loves that man and his daughter. Importantly, she reveals that she never wanted to be a mother. That was never her dream.
She's afraid of ending up and her friend interjects, "You're nothing like her.
You're not a monster." Which I'm guessing actually refers to her relationship with her own mother. She urges to not mess up the good thing she's got here. Don't [ __ ] it up. Chase returns and they start talking [ __ ] to each other. "Pull my finger," Macy laughs and both chuckle it off. She's a bit of a goof, which I actually appreciate. They arrive at the park and she pulls another little prank, asking Chase about the keys. She insists that she didn't take them, but yep, she did pranked you so hard, bro. So funny, Chase responds sarcastically. Dolly is still in bed and shakily grabs some shears, utilizing them to remove a finger. She cradles their headless body in their arms, wheezing oddly and rocking back and forth. The couple head into the woods and it's pretty huge and completely covered in trees somewhere out there. Dolly shuffles through carrying the body. She comes to a shrine of sorts with more creepy dolls watching over like an audience. They stare blankly as Dolly dumps her mom's body into an open grave. The pair trick on and happen upon an odd sight, a doll nailed to a tree. Someone's art project, Chase considers. All the way out here, she asks. Actually, Macy says that she likes the dolls and picks one up for her. She grabs another saying it looks just like him. While he disagrees, it looks like a little purple-eyed English baby. Macy makes the dolls kiss and wants to bring them along. Chase thinks that they are creepy, asking her to please put them down, and she does dump them. After all, the big moment is upon them as they reach the scenic vista and Macy is blown away by the view. He's a fan, too, saying it's his favorite spot anywhere in the world. He came up all the time when he was younger. She can see why, agreeing it's beautiful. Chase wants to snap a photo and we can feel it's happening. She can too and gets herself a bit dolled up for some photos.
He asks for another with the two of them for Eevee. Not too far off, Dolly comes to a doll holding a little music box toy. She cranks a dial and the toy starts admitting tinkling notes. Chase digs through his backpack and retrieves the ring. But before he can propose, they hear the music emanating from the woods. Another art project, she asks.
Well, it's certainly creepy. For some reason, he decides he's got to check it out and puts the ring back in his pack.
Macy is baffled. Isn't that one of your boy scout rules? You never leave the trail. Chase dismisses that it's not really a rule, and he'll be right back.
HE SMILES. MACY STILL shouts after, "You're breaking a rule." On her own, she shrugs, "And I'm the weird one."
Chase wanders deeper into the woods, coming to another doll on a tree. He hears the music again and follows a sound, passing by even more dolls. quite a collection. And then stumbles upon Dolly herself still mourning at the grave. He inquires if she's okay and Dolly keeps quietly crying. He cautiously approaches placing a hand on her shoulder. She turns back getting our first good look at her and appropriately she is wearing a cracked porcelain doll mask. He asks again if everything is okay and Dolly starts beating at the sides of her head. She grabs him by the throat, lifting him into the air. She keeps choking him, hearing his bones crack and she drops him to the ground.
The menace grabs a shovel and jams it into his face. She considers where to jab him and elects for his leg. She violently slams the shovel down and it crunches right through his leg, shattering it. Dolly ain't done yet and brings the shovel to his mouth. Chase attempts to hold her back to no avail.
She shoves it right in there and twists the blade, severing his jaw nearly off.
Well, that's a wrap on John William Scott. I guess he ain't coming back from that, right? On that horrific note, we move on to chapter 2, Daughter, where things take an unfortunate turn for Macy. She goes off in search of Chase.
Soon she comes to that same gaggle of dolls and hears the toy tinkling. She finds it just as it winds down. She shouts for Chase to no response. Bro's a little bit tongue tied at the moment.
He's dead. She next comes to the makeshift grave and the headless body within. Macy freaks at the site and backs up right into Dolly there waiting for her. Where is he? She cries. Dolly nods to the tree seeing his mangled body. Macy bulls, shrieking for help.
She makes it back to the lookout and scrouches through the backpack. She pockets a small knife and then finds the ring. Chase, she mutters emotionally.
Dolly swipes at her hair and she flees again into the woods. Before too long, she trips and face plants right onto a rock, knocking her out. She comes to still out of sorts and Dolly finds her.
She takes her hand, giving her the once over. All five fingers intact. Then she looks over her face. Yep, she's still got a head for now at least. MACY SHOUTS, "GET off me." And Dolly gives her a hard smack. She lifts her up by the hair aggressively only to boop her nose. Macy sneers TO GET THE [ __ ] OFF me and stabs her in the side. Dolly didn't appreciate that and gets her in a choke hole. However, the killer decides to bring her along, tossing her over her shoulder like a sack of ters. They mosy on to a boarded up and rundown house in the middle of nowhere. As chapter 3, home begins. Macy gets her bearings, now stuffed in a cradle and dawned in a white dress with a big bow. You know, baby clothes, but for full-size people.
So, Dolly must have had all that stuff lying around, I guess. And it sure looks like a kids room in here. Make sure to HAVE PLENTY OF DOLLS. I'm guessing that Macy isn't Dolly's first victim and a handprint on the door backs that up. She tries a knob and it's locked naturally.
She calls out hello, hearing some muffled coughs through the wall. Come to the wall, the voice tells her. He lets Macy down. She's not getting out of here unless they let you out. She asks who he is. And he only tells her to keep quiet.
She can hear everything. She, she asks in disbelief, what is that thing? The voice tells her to focus on finding a key and then he can do everything else.
She asks again who he is and he only tells her to stay alive. How? It's a game. He reveals you have to play along.
Macy is confused by what he means and they cough that she's her new doll. Find that key. There's some lumbering footsteps approaching and Macy ducks behind the crib. The door unlocks and things go quiet. Macy peaks over seeing the door open, but no one there. "What do you want?" she yells out. Moments later, a little pram is rolled in with a dolly inside. "Okay, you want to play?"
Macy realizes and rolls it back to her.
There's a few beats and it's rolled back in with the doll now face down. Macy lifts it up, seeing the face is all broken and dark just like Dolly's. She bursts in delighted, bouncing around and clapping, clearly excited for her new doll, so to speak, to play with. Out of fear, Macy wets herself. Dolly is disappointed and brings her to the kitchen, plopping her on the table. As she rummages through the cabinets, Macy scopes out the room, seeing the windows are all boarded up and there's a big lock chain on the door. Escape will not be easy. Dolly returns with a fresh diaper for her. I'm okay. Macy stammers, hopeful to avoid the humiliation. Dolly shushes her and pushes her back on the table. She keeps insisting that she doesn't need it. Unfazed, Dolly shoves a pacifier in her mouth and gets to work cleaning her up. All Macy can do is play along with the twisted fantasy as a tear rolls down her cheek. Miraculously, and it is a real miracle because there's absolutely no way this dude is alive. A nearly jollous chase wakes up at a tree.
He gets himself to his feet and attempts to take a step only for his mangled leg to give out. Yeah, you might want to just call it here. And I mean, he would have bled out pretty quickly in the real world. Anyway, back at home, Dolly gets her baby changed, rewarding her with some nice pats. It's time to eat, and Macy gets stuffed into a high chair. But first, she needs to tend with that cut.
She cleans it up quite tenderly, actually. Macy notices that she's wearing the ring and is incense, demanding it back. "That's mine," she growls. Dolly gets frustrated but still sticks a band-aid on her boo boo. Macy attempts to level with her. I just want the ring. Dolly stays mom and she removes the knife from her side, squirting out blood. She starts stumbling around, still bleeding and gets weaker. Eventually, she slumps down but is still moving a bit there. Macy forces her way out of the chair and knocks it over, getting herself free.
She tries the window, but it won't budge. At the door, Dolly is on her feet, throwing her back on the table.
She scolds her for trying to leave, and Macy promises that she won't do it again. An apology isn't going to cut it.
She must be punished. Dolly grabs a paddle and gives her a serious ass woman. Macy keeps begging HER TO STOP, BUT Dolly keeps whailing away. Suddenly, Dolly gets agitated, grabbing the sides of her head and whimpering. At this point, Macy is feeling trapped and defeated, unsure how she is going to survive this. Chase somehow resurrects again and since he can't walk, hey, why not crawl the whole way? Sure, barely any effort at all. And seriously, his jaw is just like barely hanging on there. Like, come on. Dinner is finally served. Seeing Dolly has whipped up some mystery sludge. She does an airplane for Macy and she understandably refuses.
Turning away from the spoon. Dolly grabs her head and stuffs it in. And whatever it is makes Macy wretch instantly. Dolly isn't done yet. Grabbing a bottle of milk from the fridge. Macy is horrified, recoiling. No, no, no. She keeps denying the baba and Dolly offers the back of her hand instead. Drink it or else. She begrudgingly takes the bottle and starts sucking down. It makes her cough and choke, and we can see why. It's pretty chunky.
Macy has to push it away and tosses her cookies again. Dolly tries to rub Macy's face in the accident like a dog, and Macy refuses. And she gets really pissed, knocking stuff over. Well, if she won't take the bottle, maybe she'll take the source. That's right. Dolly spins back, revealing her massive honker. And she is lactating somehow.
Dolly stomps up, shoving the nip right in her face. Macy's starts suckling down at first, but then bites down hard. Real hard. She doesn't let go until she rips the nip completely off. She tears off the tape restraints and gets away.
Upstairs, the guy asks about the key again. Where is it? Well, in her special place. He's impressed that she's made it this far, but don't forget about him, please. She tries the other doors, finding herself in Mama's room, noticing the shears and finger on the ground. She quietly searches around the dresses in the room. Soon, there's a familiar clamping sound down the hall. Dolly kicks open the door, shovel in hand. She scans for Macy, seeing she's hiding behind the door. Macy attacks her with the shears, getting her in the back. She hoofs it down to the basement, and Dolly's special place. The area is chock full of candles and obviously a shitload more dolls as a centerpiece is what must be her mother's head, lovingly and grotesqually sewed onto a doll's body.
Clearly, Dolly loves her mommy. There she sees that elusive key on its neck.
She grabs it and hears more footsteps, but Dolly surprises her popping up from behind. Macy gets thrown back into her room and is pulled by the ear so hard that it's nearly RIPPED OFF HER HEAD.
WHAT THE [ __ ] MACY SOBS. Dolly pats on her leg to come SIT ON HER LAP. Macy yowls, "What did you do to me?" The killer is annoyed again and rises angrily, seeing that she's wearing the key now. She starts humming and begins to calm down, rocking in the chair. Macy sheepishly approaches and cuddles right up to her. Dolly does at least sew her ear back on, but Macy feels every painful stitch. Morning comes and against all odds, Chase is still crawling his ass through the forest.
Man, this guy is determined. He finds Macy's sweater and exclaims her name into the trees. Next up, chapter 4, Father. Dolly is asleep with Macy still in her arms. She surveys the scene and Dolly continues snoring. She quietly puts a foot down and rises from her lap.
Dolly suddenly flops down, her head leaning forward. Macy approaches, going for the key. She manages to get it off and Dolly rises again, but keeps snoring away. Macy tiptoes down the halls and comes to the guy's door. He's again surprised she's still alive and she shushes him. She's sleeping. She utilizes the key and opens the door to a nearly pitch black room. The voice guides her to a flashlight on the floor.
Macy finds it and clicks it on. It's pretty sparse in here. Just an old mattress, a [ __ ] bucket, and a dude chained up. She inquires once more who he is, and he stresses they need to move. That same key undoes his chains.
She wants to know why he's in chains, and he says that she's had him like this for months, ever since her mama got sick. Understanding this must be Dolly's father. Macy wants to know more and he promises to tell her everything once they get out of here. He promises that he can lift that door bar and she undo his shackles. He thanks her profusely and Macy peers around the room seeing blood splattered all over the walls. At another corner, there is a dead dude. He explains as his brother. He came looking for him a while back, but Dolly got him first. She made him watch, he groans.
Unsurprisingly, the man goes on the offense, grabbing her with a shard of glass to her throat. He spits as she's still going to get him out of here. And by the way, no, we can't open that door.
Well, thanks, dick. He knows Dolly must have heard them already. She's got an ear like a blood hound. I taught her well, he sigh. He keeps a shard on her.
And they make their way downstairs. He shouts for Dolly to wake up. He's got her little play thing. You best hurry up, too, or he's going to slit her throat. He tells Macy he's taking her with him, which is alarming. Baby girl, heals, come out now. He keeps taunting her and steps things up, slicing Macy's face. He does say sorry at least. The man commands her to scream again and Macy does. He's going to do like I done you unless you get your ass down here right now. Finally, they hear some approaching footsteps. The father again reiterates, "I've got your little Dolly and orders her to drop the shovel."
Dolly does as ass and unlocks the door.
Good girl, he snears and then proceeds to wallop her with a shovel. Macy runs for the door and he smacks her down. I'm not done with you yet. Dad reveals a bit more, telling Dolly she should have killed him when she had the chance, baby girl. bury him out back with the rest of them. So, definitely more victims before Macy. He wants to know how long she was going to keep him chained up. You think just cuz mama's gone, you can do whatever you want. This is my [ __ ] house, he growls. Macy attacks and father is pissed. He suddenly stops in his tracks and lets out a little weeze.
Dolly punches her arm right through his chest, leaving a hole in his body. Woo!
Pretty strong there. Dolly is not done and gets the shovel, bashing away at his face until it's pretty much flattened.
Macy is beside herself and Dolly caresses her hair. I helped you, she pleased, but Dolly still returns her to her room. She points to stay put. Dolly becomes uneasy and grabs at her face again. She gets more flustered, throwing things off the dresser and smashes the crib. She then takes a load off, rocking back and forth. Macy springs for the door and Dolly snatches her. I helped you, she reminds her. There's a flash of Eevee. Macy tries a different tactic.
Help mommy, she croaks. Dolly drops her and she continues. Mommy, mommy, I love you. Hey, now you're getting it. They hear a muffled scream from below and then Chase shouting for Macy. She just straight up jumps out the window falling into a strange red void turning into Galo or something out of nowhere.
Chapter 5 Reunion begins with Macy landing on the ground gasping. Dolly is confused staring down from the window.
Macy runs the chase and again, how is this dude alive? She takes in his horrific appearance and he asks her to listen. He loves her so much and she agrees. She loves him and Eevee with all her heart. She tells him they have to get a move on. She's coming. They try to get him to his feet, but it's too late.
Dolly is here. Macy tries to stop her and gets jabbed in the throat. Chase manages to stand his ground after all and taunts her to hit him. She does him one better and tears the rest of his jaw. Okay, now he's dead for sure. Macy runs and things get trippy out of nowhere. There's flashes of tons of random stuff like someone in a cave and then a little girl outside with someone.
There's also Eevee randomly out in the woods and she comes to another doll.
Dolly is seen painting her dolls and then Macy is back in the red void with an umbilical cord attached. Macy starts losing her [ __ ] The dolls all surrounding her as she screams her head off. Dolly goes at her with her signature shovel and Macy tries to fend her off with a stick. Dolly snatches it away and Macy refuses to give up, furiously punching her. She keeps pummeling and shatters more of Dolly's mask. This causes her to run off and Macy smashes the pieces to bits. She's back to running and falls right into the still open grave. Our next quite short chapter, fight begins with Macy still in the grave. She looks up above and one doll's eyes eerily open. This scares Macy and she backs up just as Dolly brings her shovel down, barely missing her. Macy backs into the other corner and takes her mom's corpse for a shield.
She tosses it at Dolly and climbs out of the hole. The killer is temporarily distracted, making sure the corpse is okay. "Fuck you," Macy grunts and whacks her with a shovel, landing right on her mom's body. She hits her again and again until Dolly ceases moving. Although there's still the matter of the ring and Macy climbs back in the hole. She is really pissed, shrieking, "Fuck you!"
repeatedly each time with more intensity. She reaches out for the ring and Dolly grabs her hand. There's a bit of a glimpse of what's behind the mask, seeing black or perhaps burnt skin. Macy socks the [ __ ] out of her until she breaks her grip. Free once more, Macy makes it back onto a trail at least.
With a hopeful outlook, we start our final chapter. Goodbye. A forest ranger dude is listening to some metal giving out tickets. We don't know whose truck that is, but the sticker on back implies it's a single mom and daughter. Most likely another unfortunate group that met their fates at Dolly's hands. He doesn't notice Macy running up, too busy JAMMING OUT. He gets a real fright when she grabs his shoulder. He asks if she's okay. Did a bear do this or what? A woman. Macy gets out with a porcelain doll mask. She urges they need to go now and he sends her to the truck. He radios in to HQ. You're not going to believe this. We've got another one. And it's the same story of someone in a doll mask. Now we know for sure there were victims previous to Macy and the police are even at least somewhat aware that Dolly is out here in the woods killing people. The killer stops up and Macy shrieks for him to get in the car. Dolly gets him right in the noggin and proceeds to decapitate him. Dolly places her hand on the window and does a silly little gesture. Macy scowls to get away from her and Dolly exhales disappointed.
She tries once more to amuse her using the officer's head as a gag. Macy is unamused, crying, "I hate you. I hate you." She looks again and Dolly has vanished. Out the window, Macy spots the car keys and Dolly attacks again. She smashes the back window out and moves on to the front. She shoves her shovel at Macy and she kicks her back with the door. She grabs the keys and gets the truck started. About to peel away, Dolly is waiting there in the road. She does a little gesture like, "Please don't go."
Macy growls and kicks into high gear, running her right over. She still won't leave the ring behind and grabs it before hitting the road. She drives on down the dusty road, getting emotional.
She puts on the ring with a pain smile.
Macy keeps checking the road behind her and fortunately it's clear. A laugh of relief or perhaps insanity takes her over. As she drives off, the laughter continues. Well, Macy does escape and presumably despite her initial hesitations will step in as a mother for Eevee since Chase is gone for sure. As for Dolly, I have to imagine that she's still alive. During the credits, the song actually hints at a sequel. I didn't realize at first the country style tune was referencing the movie, but it ends with them cruning we'll see you soon with Dolly 2. You know how these things go. Surprisingly, there is a credit scene as well, but it feels more like a gag than anything. A pair of cops and a criminal, it looks like, show up at the sheriff's house and fill them in on what's happened. They only found a bit of the ranger guy's body, but they found another, a woman wearing a doll mask. I think it's more than safe to say that Dolly is still alive in the end and will be back to collecting new dollies of her own in no time. And I wonder, is she supposed to just be a regular person or is there something supernatural going on here? Just what is Dolly's deal? In retrospect, when we look back at the opening text, it kind of tells us upfront. In the woods, Dolly's mom cried for a child and one soon appeared and later was struck with Evil's embrace. We also have that flash of the little girl with someone in the woods and it does feel related. Either Dolly just kind of appeared in that cave or her mom prayed until she was born and then young Dolly encountered this entity in the woods.
Either way, it seems the girl was afflicted by evil and thusly must be supernatural in nature. Expanding on this, it sounds like her mom was so desperate for a kid that she still took care of her in spite of her evil side.
Although it must have probably been in a similar twisted sense as seen with Dolly, basically keeping her prisoner as a doll, quote unquote, to avoid her lashing out or harming anyone. It seems all that changed when her mama got sick and no one could or cared to stop her anymore. She locked up her abusive dad and had to run to the house. We know Dolly has definitely killed several people, but we simply don't know how many or how long her rampage has been going on. Perhaps a Dolly 2 will help illuminate things further regarding the character. That'll do it for this inplane for Dolly.
