Hummingbird Life Tons of Orioles & Hummingbirds Feeders Out My Kitchen Window Full of Birds ALL YearAdded:
You know, a second ago, there were like two dozen orioles on the deck.
Out the window, I should say. They're all over the place.
And as soon as I pick up the camera, they left. Maybe I should stick a camera in the window.
Oh, no, I see them coming from across the hill. Oh, that was a pigeon.
That just flew by. We've got those big band-tailed pigeons. Here they come.
The hummingbirds do not like the orioles.
I don't know what they don't like more, bees or orioles. But the orioles are big and they're intimidating. See what I've got here. I've got to go back and do the hummingbird feeders. It's early in the morning.
This is like a regular thing.
I can't say 24 hours, though it's close to it cuz sometimes 1:00 in the morning I'm going through my feeders and scrubbing and washing them.
You know, right now, if you look, let me see if I can zoom in a little bit.
Right there, there's three or Oh, there's four orioles now. I think a lot of them now are babies.
And what we also Oh, now there's five.
Uh What we also have this year, it's not just the hooded, but we've got the hooded and the Bullock's babies.
So, if I think it's a nightmare right now, I don't know what's going to be next year because all these babies being born here are going to come back next year. The ones that make it, you know. They're very curious birds, the orioles.
And what they do is they get into things that I think, to be honest, they end up losing their lives because they're just so curious. I've seen them go into the weirdest places, the babies, not the adult orioles, but the babies. So, I'm going to say maybe, and this is a guess, really, 3/4 to maybe half of them make it but, you know, past their first year. And then they come back here.
Look at this. So, I've got to go back and finish. They've emptied these feeders here.
There's still a little bit of food.
There's more orioles back there.
I've got a lot to do on the deck.
I'm going to start a new channel where I'm not going to be talking, I don't think. I say that and then I probably will a little. Stuff that I think may be too boring for, let's say, our regular channel or some of the viewers that want to learn something or see something that's important that relates to them. Look at that.
Um it will be more like maybe putting a camera out the window and just letting it run or trying different things or working on a project quietly cuz a lot of times I want to sit and be quiet. Okay, I won't always be quiet because a lot of times I'm talking to myself as I'm working thinking, "Oh, will this work?
Will that work?" So, you might hear that, but right now, you know, um I'm thinking of doing clips like that. I do a lot of clips.
That's my everyday life. It's something I've done kind of to keep notes though for me, I actually like writing things. When I write something down on a piece of paper, I can bring that up in my memory and remember that better than doing, let's say, a video to remind me of something.
And then what happens is I've got to find the video, but when I wrote something down, my dad figured this out years ago when I was a little kid.
He figured out that anything I wrote down, I'm very visual, I will remember.
But if I studied something, let's say spelling words, and just somebody spelled it to me, I would not remember it. So, I used to bring home my spelling words when I was like in Oh, I don't know, first grade, second grade, and he'd say, "Okay, that's your spelling list." He always helped me with my homework.
And he said, "That's your spelling list.
Write these words, each one, on this paper 10 times." I went, "What?" "Just write it." So, I write them like 10 times each, and he goes, "Okay." He gives me a spelling test, and I nail them all. Why? Because I could bring up the paper in my brain, and I could remember that.
So, I do a lot of videos, and then I go back and I find things that I thought, "Gee, maybe somebody would want to see that." Or "This was interesting when those birds did that." Or different things. So, I might post on this channel Robbie's Hummingbirds, um if I continue to do it. You know, I might post something like that. Let's say I just stuck the camera out here. Look at all these.
You know what I have to do sometimes? I have to go out there and just sit. And if I sit here on a chair out the window, then the orioles will kind of back off, and they'll go to the other feeders to the left, and the hummingbirds will come in, because of course they don't mind me. But, I'm looking, and I see I've got to get out there in a second to the feeders. Look at that. Now, that's a Bullock's on the top.
Uh I don't know where he went. That's a baby Bullock's.
So, we've got definitely two species of orioles, which we always have, but I haven't seen as many baby Bullock's, which means they're nesting right here somewhere, and they're bringing their babies. And there's the new fountain I haven't even posted yet.
It's covered in orioles all the time, so the hummingbirds are not happy. I got to move that.
It's set up very different, and it works, but not here. Look at them.
See that?
And this is really a nice place to work in the kitchen, I have to admit. Look at this. I've got all my plants here that I'm rooting. I'm rooting tomatoes. I'm rooting basil. I'm rooting Oops, you can't even see. Sorry. Hold on.
I'm rooting Hummingbirds' lunch. What else am I rooting? Oh, I'm rooting garlic.
Yep, I'm doing garlic. I don't think you can see. I'm using a different camera.
But that's what's going on out the window.
This is crazy. There's not as many hummingbirds.
I'm only going through 3 gallons a day and sometimes a little bit more.
In the fall, I can go through three to 6 gallons a day, and by then the orioles are gone. And when they're gone, they're you know, look how much they're drinking. Then you know you've got thousands of hummingbirds here. It works that way because right now a lot of the hummingbirds are going up north because they can go all the way to Alaska, some of them, and they've got all that sunlight. I mean, it's it's Look at all the sunlight they have. They're far more than here.
We have sundown what? Let's say by 7:30, 8:00.
But up north, I mean, I was at a friend's house once, and we were working all day on a project. And then I said to him, you know, "It's getting late. Let's go have dinner."
And the other guy that was there working on the project said, "Oh, I'm tired." He was a vet.
He said, "I got to get to my hotel room and get some sleep."
I said, "You're not going to eat?" And my other friend turned to me and said, "Do you know what time it is?" I was in Seattle.
I said, "I don't know, 8:00?" It was 10:00, and it was still light outside.
So that's what's going on here. But this is the window. This is where my I'm going to call it the hummingbird kitchen is.
And it's good because I have cameras all over so I can keep an eye out when the food is down. Then I've got the hibiscus plant there.
So anyways, this is what's going on here out the window, and I'm going to start posting things, like I said, on Hummingbirds Plus No, that's not right. That's the other one.
Um Robbie's Hummingbirds when it's like, let's say I'm doing feeders, I'm cleaning feeders, or I'm changing I got to change the top on that cover. I've got a better flag to put up there. So, I do different things on there, but I haven't done anything yet. So, don't go rush and go looking for the channel.
It's something I'm probably giving myself more work than I need.
I don't even know where I brainstorm and get these things. But, I figured if I separated some of my extra clips, this is not let's sit down and let's make a hummingbird feeder, let's make a bird bath. That would be on Robby's Hummingbirds that that won't be there.
You might see the bird bath, you might see the hummingbirds being fed, but you're not going to see that. Then Hummingbirds Plus, which I haven't done any of these yet, but depending on when you're watching this, that one is going to be like a lot of stuff going on in the bird garden. But again, this is our learning channel. This is the channel that I'm going to really be talking you guys about things, answering all your comments and questions.
Robby and Gary Gardening Easy cuz hummingbirds are pollinators, but the other ones it's going to be extra footage. It's a shame that a lot of people don't see the footage that I take or sometimes Gary's got great footage, and I'll be trying to post there. How much? I don't know. Time will tell.
All right. Well, I'm going to get back to work here. I'm washing my hummingbird feeders out right now, getting them all ready, and I should show you how I made this one because this one is a unique one. I'll do that pretty soon. Everybody have a wonderful day. Like I said, it's early. I got to get all these feeders down, washed. There's still a lot of food out there, but this is a constant thing from morning till sundown. So, with that, have a wonderful day, and don't forget to eat what you grow.
Bye-bye.
It's so pretty out there.
