[00:00:11]Khalid Muhammad Ali El Ishri was at the helm of Mitiga prison in Tripoli overseeing years of abuse between 2015 and 2020 including murder, torture, and sexual violence during the period of the charges.

[00:00:54]The evidence also shows that minors were themselves beaten, tortured shot, and raped. Mitiga, a detention center operated by the Special Deterrence Force, also known as Rada, held thousands of individuals without legal grounds subjecting them to inhuman conditions as well as systematic abuse and torture. There are substantial grounds to believe that Khalid El Ishri is criminally responsible for the charged war crimes and crimes against humanity. His lawyer says he denies the charges.

[00:01:29]If they are confirmed, Al Ishri's case could become the first ICC trial focused on Libya. In January 2025, Italy briefly arrested another ICC suspect also linked to the Mitiga prison.
