2026 temperature blanket: Month 3 UpdateAdded:
You guys, I can't believe we are already on the month three temperature blanket update for 2026. March is done and gone.
And oh my goodness, what a month it has been. Someone told me earlier this week that this winter, winter 2025/2026 has been one of the coldest here and we have seen over 70 days below zero. Or is it below freezing? I've heard it both ways. But either way, if you've been seeing the temperatures on this blanket, you know that we have always been almost every single day of 2026 so far in the negatives or at least had a low of negative something. It's insane. It's to the point where we have had problems with our water, with our sewers. Even power went out in our village because of the cold. Like literally the frost heaves that were produced because of how cold it was literally busted a line from what I heard down the grape vine. So it has been a very cold winter, which is funny because last year was a very warm winter and I was looking back through temperatures. I'm talking so much before we um we do this, but I feel like this is like very important context. Okay, so I'm going to show you here on my screen.
This is how I keep t track of the temperatures. Okay, I have the lows and the highs. And then this yellow just means that I put it on here and the dates. Okay, so I can keep track of the temperatures this way. That's my 2026 temps. I have the same thing for 2025.
Now listen to this. Okay, let's look at like mid March, March 15th, 2025, we had a low of 17 and a high of 28.
And for 2026, we had a low of -3 and a high of 9°.
That's insane. March 13th, where our low was 9 and our high was 29. And our 2026 March 13, our low was -25 and our high was -3.
Oh my goodness, this is crazy. As you can uh have probably been able to tell, it has been cold. Um, but anyways, let me show you what the blanket looks like so far. Here it is. It's so so beautiful. I love it so much.
pretty soon you're not going to be able to see it. Like this is what my blanket looked like six months into 2025 because I just freehanded that blanket completely different. Um but this one is going to be massive. So you can tell when we are 3 months in and 1 2 3 4 5 six rows down. It's pretty good. Let me explain first if you are new around here what my little starburst flowers are. So in the middle you have the low and the petals are the high and each flower is a day. And then my blanket's just white so they all have a white border. And we're just going to continue this baby on for the rest of 2026. This is weird because I'm filming this like literally a couple days before the end of the year and we're actually going to be traveling in April. So, it was perfect because I went ahead and did the last two basically squares for 20 the March and then when we get back I'll do April. So, this helps me be able to and then I filmed because I do short form. So, I filmed crocheting these squares, but then now I can actually do my little my little update while we're here, too. I will put the pattern in the description that I bought off of Etsy. I am love love loving it. Let's take a look at my beautiful box of skins. These are the skins that I am using uh for the blanket. And I have it in this beautiful Port Alsworth box that I won at an auction at the school.
And each one represents a 10 degree range for my blanket. So we have our This one is probably our most used, the periwinkle. This is for our 0 to9s, -10s, teens, -20s, 30s,4s,50s.
We have not even opened the negative50s and we barely have used the negative 40s, negative30s and then we have our um teens, 20s, 30s which we have hit that a couple of times throughout the year. Um but now we are seeing that we have hit the end of March that it's just going to stay warm from here.
And when I mean say warm, I mean like 30° or over 30° every single day and not in the negatives, which is amazing. The only bummer part though is now that it's going to get warmer, the weather is just going to get crazier.
And with March being such a beautiful winter month, we literally saw blue skies and zero wind and like no clouds in the sky for so long.
It was a dream come true. I would have flown so many days in March if it was like always that way. And typically it's not. So that was really nice. So back to my colors here. It looks like I'm going to have to buy a periwinkle pretty soon, but I don't want to get too far into it because even though it's like this like one to nine range, I don't think we're going to be here for very long just because it's going to get warmer. So, I'm thinking that April and May, we're going to be hitting like more of the um teens and then 20s, 30s, and 40s, and we'll hit um open this guy up when we hit the 40s, which I'm very excited about.
And then getting these guys in. I'm so excited for the greens. Green and blue are my favorite colors. So, I'm really loving this color scheme. There's not really that much to say else about the blanket. Like, I just love it so much.
It's going really well.
It's been a very cold winter, so we've had some pretty cold colors, but the forecast shows like teens, 20s, and 30s consistently for the next few weeks, which seems on par for what is normal for April. So, we'll see breakup season, everything melting, everything turning to mud, but then the green will come up.
I was literally flying with my grandpa a week ago today, flying into Port Alsworth and I was in shock that in 2 months everything's going to be open and everything's going to be green and all the snow is going to be gone and ice.
Like someone said they drilled into the ice on Lake Clark and it is 3 ft deep.
That is insane. That is deep for on the lake. We see that often on the bay in the winter, but not on Lake Clark.
Anyways, now that that's done, I do want to share with you some of my other projects that I have been working on. I just completed a 24-hour crochet challenge, which you can go back and watch that video. That was a lot of fun to do. I finished two baby blankets in that video and then worked on some miscellaneous projects. I even worked on this guy and then I worked on a Persian tile blanket which I had already started but I want to finish and I'm so close guys.
These tiles just take so long and I have to do 16. They will all look All these little tiles will look like this. This is all scrap yarn from my well unused skins of yarn from my last year's temperature blanket, but the black is from Molly and Olly who sent me a care package of yarn. And that's where the black comes from. And then the white is just the um off-white that I use for like all my blankets, including like the temperature blanket. Um so I have two completed Persian tiles. And then I have one, two, three, four, and four other five others that are completed all the way up until like the last uh round except this guy.
This guy needs one more round of the black.
And then I need to do again 16 total. So they're all sitting here. And then they're all going to have um squares inside the Persian tile, too. So, it'll be like this connected to this.
I love the colors of this one. Um connected to this. So, it's really I don't know. I just I I love these colors. I think it's going to be super pretty. I love blue. Um so, yeah. That's like my big project that I've been working on. I started this probably in de Novemberish.
I need to look back when I bought the pattern off of Etsy, but it's definitely challenging me. Like, I'm not used to doing something a little bit more advanced, but it's going well so far, and I love it. and it's been making it a lot easier now that I have been doing um all the squares or the all the tiles like each row at the same time.
But I think what I'm going to do, I want to make this blanket again but use all the scrap yarn that I have and just make each one look different. I've seen people do that on TikTok, too, and I think it's really pretty. So, I don't know if I'm going to gift this one or if I'm going to keep it and then gift the scrap yarn one. I'm not sure yet. We'll see. I'm also doing a challenge to myself this year to crochet 12 baby blankets. So, one baby blanket every single month. My goal for these baby blankets is to have them as gifts for people in the community, my family, my friends, whatever it may be that are having babies. So, I did complete two more blankets, which marks four blankets done, which I'm getting a little ahead of the game as summer is approaching, which is good because summer is going to be crazy. I don't think I'm going to have much time to crochet a lot, but I that's okay. This is going to be really fun. My family was in Hawaii together for a vacation, which was a lot of fun because my mom's sister and her family went and we have like family friends there, so we were able to see them. Like it was just really fun to just hang out and do stuff together. And I started a bl baby blanket while I was down there to also add to the numbers. But I did one pattern and I just did not like how it was going. And then I frogged it, started another one. And I love it, but I feel like my ends are going like this.
So I think I'm going to scrap it and do something else, which is a little sad.
But I also think I did not bring the right crochet hook. So that could be also a reason why. Um, but it also could be that we were driving and I was not paying uh well attention to um my numbers and my ends are looking a little a little weeavy. I love making these videos and showing you the temperature blanket and also being able to share with you the other projects that I am working on. and it makes me really happy that you guys also enjoy this as much as I do. There's some big things ahead of this year I'm very excited about. But it is now after 9:00 at night and I am very very tired.
So, I'm going to go to bed. But thank you guys so much for watching and for just encouraging me in my hobbies and my crafts. I just love it so much and I love you guys. So, thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you. All right, we'll see you guys in the next update. Bye.
