What are these clouds?追加:
Spooky clouds spotted over North Carolina on Tuesday. Yeah, these are some funky ones to be sure. They're called asparatus clouds or unelatus asparatoss, however you want to say it.
They're pretty cool looking, aren't they? And they might look scary to you.
They're usually harmless. What's going on here? They usually ride over a stable layer of air in the atmosphere and they get kind of a wavelike appearance because the air is bouncing up and down on this more stable layer of air. They do typically precede a weather change, but they don't often mean severe weather is on the way. In this case, it was just ahead of some rain moving in to the Raleigh area. Pretty impressive to say the least. And again, if you see this, it might not be cause for concern.
