This video compilation of 20 real aviation incidents demonstrates how environmental factors, fatigue, and psychological stress can create powerful visual and perceptual illusions that passengers and pilots experience as extraordinary phenomena. The cases range from a passenger seeing a 'non-human' figure (actually a person in a backwards hoodie with an earbud) to reports of wing-clinging creatures (likely birds or debris), floating figures in clouds (industrial steam), and mysterious objects (meteors, balloons, or optical effects). These incidents reveal that even in the controlled environment of commercial aviation, human perception can be deceived by environmental conditions, fatigue, and the human brain's tendency to pattern-match and find meaning in ambiguous stimuli.

The Flight Footage NO ONE Was Supposed to See… What This Passenger Captured Is TerrifyingAdded:
Flights around the world have recorded inexplicable phenomena.
>> Holy.
In 2025, a passenger boarding a United Airlines flight pulled out his phone expecting to film an ordinary argument.
A woman was standing in the aisle, refusing to sit down, telling everyone around her that she needed to get off the plane. Immediately, she said there was a reason she was leaving. She pointed toward the back of the cabin and shouted that the person sitting back there was not real, not a person, not human.
>> I'm telling you, I'm getting the off and there's a REASON WHY I'M GETTING the offic.
>> Within minutes, a second passenger stood up looking pale and said she had also noticed something wrong about the same individual, and she demanded to leave, too. The man filming kept scanning the rose, trying to catch whoever they were pointing at, but the camera never quite found the face. To this day, nobody has publicly confirmed who or what those two women claimed to see. The video ends with the cabin half empty and a strange silence hanging in the air.
A passenger on a long haul flight noticed something unsettling a few rows ahead. A figure in a hooded sweatshirt appeared to be staring directly at him, never blinking, never looking away. The face did not look right. It looked stretched, oddly proportioned, almost like a mask. When the food cart finally rolled down the aisle and blocked the view for a moment, he snapped a photo.
The image went viral within hours with millions of viewers convinced they were looking at something that was not human.
The truth turned out to be stranger than the fear. The hooded passenger had pulled their sweatshirt on backwards to sleep, and what looked like a single black staring eye was actually a wireless earbud tucked into their ear.
The folds of the ear created the illusion of a nose and a mouth. Once you see it, you cannot unsee it. But for the people on that flight, the fear was very real.
Between August 2020 and the summer of 2022, pilots approaching Los Angeles International Airport made a series of reports that nobody could explain. They claimed they were seeing a man flying through the sky wearing a jetpack at altitudes of around 3,000 to 6,000 ft, sometimes within 300 yards of the aircraft. American Airlines, Sky West, and cargo pilots all radioed in. One air traffic controller actually said over the open channel, "Look out for Iron Man." The FBI and the FAA launched a full investigation.
After 2 years of searching, the most likely explanation became this, a life-sized helium balloon shaped like Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas. A police helicopter eventually filmed one drifting at altitude over Beverly Hills. But here is the part nobody wants to talk about.
Multiple sightings remain officially unexplained and no balloon was ever recovered from the original incidents.
Do you think we really found the answer with that balloon or is the truth being hidden? Sound off in the comments.
This one comes from a passenger named Marcus on a night flight somewhere over the middle of the country. The cabin lights were dimmed. Most people were asleep. He happened to glance out his window, expecting to see nothing but darkness. Instead, pressed flat against the wing was a small, compact, furry black shape. It had what looked like two pointed ears standing straight up. Its head was slightly raised. It was not moving. It was not flapping. It was simply enduring the screaming wind at cruising altitude where the temperature outside is around 60° below 0 F and the air is too thin to breathe. Marcus blinked, rubbed his eyes, looked again.
The shape was still there. He never managed to get a clear photo. By the time he reached for his phone, the cabin angle had shifted and the wing was empty. Most aviation experts will tell you it is a trick of fatigue and shadow, but Marcus swears to this day that something was out there watching him.
On February 20, 2024, American Airlines Flight 1219 was climbing out of Albuquerque headed for Chicago. About 30 minutes into the flight, a man seated near the emergency exit suddenly lunged for the door. He flipped open the protective cover, ripped down the safety mechanism, and started yanking the handle with both hands. Passengers nearby reported a sudden rush of cold air and a loud whistling sound. Six passengers tackled him in the aisle. They wrestled his hands away from the lever, pulled him to the floor, and used duct tape and plastic flex cuffs to secure his legs and wrists. The entire time, he kept screaming the same thing over and over.
I want to get out. The plane turned around and landed safely back in Albuquerque, where the FBI was waiting at the gate. Tap the like button to let us know this content is making a difference. And if you're watching on your phone, be sure to press the hype button right below.
On April 12th, 2023, a passenger on a flight from Allos Angeles to Mexico filmed something clinging to the outside of the wing. It was not a bird. At cruising speed, around 575 mph, no bird could survive there. The footage shows something with leathery wings, an irregular body, and movement that does not match the physics of the wind around it. The video exploded online. Some viewers connected it to old pilot reports from Mexican airspace where private jet crews have claimed to see bat-like humanoid creatures with wingspans of around 10 to 13 ft at altitudes above 16,000 ft.
Skeptics insist the footage is digitally manipulated, but the original passenger has never withdrawn the video and has never admitted to faking it. Fake or real? Look at that footage again and tell me what you think that shadow really is.
Zooie Mononttoya, a PhD student flying Southwest Airlines flight 3442 from Las Vegas to Tulsa, looked out her window and saw something keeping pace with the plane. A dark shifting silhouette, moving at the exact same speed, but twisting in ways that did not look natural. It seemed to float upside down, then sideways, then upright again.
She filmed it. The video racked up nearly 8 million views with viewers comparing the shape to a dementor out of Harry Potter. The accepted explanation is that another aircraft was flying slightly above hers and the sun was casting its shadow directly onto its own contrail, creating a dark ghost that tracked her plane perfectly. A satisfying answer, except for one detail. The shape changes posture in ways a shadow simply should not.
A video began circulating online showing what appeared to be enormous shadowy figures standing on top of a cloud deck.
They were different sizes. They looked almost like a family. One of them, taller than the rest, appeared to walk slowly toward the wing of the aircraft, as if curious about what it was looking at. Pilots have offered a calm explanation. The plane was flying over a layer of low fog, and beneath that fog were industrial cooling towers pushing hot steam straight up through the cloud layer. The steam columns condensed into tall, dark, vertical shapes that from above looked exactly like giant figures standing on the clouds. A reasonable explanation except for the figure that turns its head toward the camera. That part has never been explained.
A group of passengers flying over Tampa, Florida were looking out the window at the city lights below when something silver caught their attention.
It was a disc hovering above what appeared to be an electric vehicle charging station glowing with a soft green light underneath. It held perfectly still for several seconds, long enough for multiple people to start recording. Then the moment the cameras came up, the green light snapped off and the object shot away at a speed nobody on board had ever witnessed before. The cabin went silent. Later analysis suggested the object may have been a commercial delivery drone operated by a major retailer using a wing-shaped design with vertical propellers and a central body that at night looks exactly like a classic flying disc. But even the people who accept that explanation admit one thing. No delivery drone moves that fast.
On February 10th, 2022, an Air Asia Airbus A320 was flying from Koula Lumper to Tawo, Malaysia.
Mid-flight, passengers in the middle of the cabin noticed something moving above their heads. A long pale yellow shape was slithering across the inside of the overhead light panel, visible through the translucent plastic. a snake inside the ceiling. At 35,000 ft, pilot Hana Mosen Khan filmed the entire thing and the video traveled around the world within hours. The captain immediately diverted the aircraft to Cuching International Airport. Passengers were evacuated, the cabin was sealed, and agricultural authorities fumigated the entire aircraft.
Air Asia later confirmed that the snake had likely stowed away during ground loading. The flight continued on a different aircraft, but every passenger admitted afterward that they kept glancing at the ceiling for the rest of their journey. Where are you watching this video from? What's the scariest thing you've ever seen on an airplane?
I'd love to hear your stories.
A helicopter pilot uploaded a video that immediately went viral. He was flying through clear skies when he noticed something colorful drifting in the air ahead of him. At first, he assumed it was a balloon, but as he got closer, the size did not match. The object appeared enormous, shaped like a spinning top with a pointed head pulsing with light.
You can hear the surprise in his voice as he tries to describe what he is seeing. Then the video cuts off abruptly. Aviation analysts later suggested the footage may have been a heat distortion from a distant helicopter captured through a forward-looking infrared lens that turned the engine heat into a geometric pattern. But the pilot himself has never accepted that explanation. He insists he saw a solid object with structure and that it was holding position in a way no aircraft he has ever flown could match.
On September 6th, 2021, American Airlines passengers flying from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City watched a 61-year-old man named Timothy Armstrong slowly come apart. He started by shouting xenophobic insults at a woman who had simply stood up to stretch her back. When the crew intervened, he turned on them, growling, pulling at his face mask, standing in the aisle and making obscene gestures. He kept yelling random phrases at full volume, then sitting down, then standing back up.
Near the end of the flight, he became completely disoriented and started telling other passengers that the plane had already landed, even though they were still at cruising altitude. When the aircraft finally touched down in Salt Lake City, police boarded immediately, took him into custody, and transported him to a hospital. He was cited for public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
On October 27th, 2025, a flight attendant on a Russian Poida Airlines flight from Yulanowsk to Moscow was looking out the window at around 33,000 ft when the sky suddenly lit up green. A massive fireball was streaking across the horizon, glowing with an unnatural fluorescent color, trailing sparks behind it. She managed to film the entire thing. The footage showed the object burning brightly for several seconds before silently disintegrating into the cloud deck below. Astronomers later confirmed it was a meteor entering the atmosphere at roughly 100,000 mph.
The green color came from nickel and magnesium burning off the rock as friction vaporized its outer layer. What made the moment even stranger is that the same airline was on that exact same day conducting a trial run with the world's first active humanoid robot flight attendant on another route. Two impossible things happening on the same day with the same airline. A meteor and a robot on the same day. coincidence or something weirder? What do you think?
In 2022, a passenger flying over the Atlantic Ocean filmed a bright rectangular object moving steadily through the sky on a parallel path. It was not zigzagging. It was not accelerating. It was simply flying calmly as if it knew exactly where it was going. The footage closely matches a separate report from former Thunderbird pilot Major Ryan Bowdenheimr, who claims he flew alongside a perfect rectangle at around 30,000 ft over Wyoming. He described it as being roughly 30 to 50 ft tall with pulsing white edges and a cream colored center. No wings, no engines, no exhaust, just a flat geometric shape holding a steady 400 knots. Defense analysts believe many of these rectangular sightings are classified radar reflecting balloons used by the military, but the passenger version recorded over open ocean has never been officially identified.
On October 29th, 2015, a photographer named Neil Thomas Douglas boarded a Ryionaire flight from London Stanstead to Galway, Ireland. He walked down the aisle to his assigned seat, looked down, and froze. Another man was already sitting there. A man with the exact same red beard, the same hairline, the same build, even the same smile. The two of them looked like twins. Passengers nearby burst out laughing. The two strangers took a selfie together, and the photo went around the world within 24 hours. That should have been the end of the story. But later that night, Neil walked into his hotel in Galway, the jury's inn, and found the same man standing at the check-in desk. Same hotel, same night. And later that evening, they ran into each other at a local pub where they finally sat down and shared a pint together.
Statistically, this should not happen, but it did.
Residents of Nashville, Tennessee, looked up one night and saw something hovering above the city. A brilliant red light holding completely still above the power lines, then moving with a precision no helicopter or drone could replicate. Some thought it was a military test. Others were not so sure.
The object hovered for several minutes, then drifted away slowly, leaving behind a thin trail of smoke that hung in the air long after it was gone. The most accepted explanation is that the timing matched the peak of the Orionids meteor shower, which occurs every October when Earth passes through the debris trail of Hal's comet. Bright meteors can leave glowing ionized trails that, viewed through city haze, can appear to hover.
But that explanation does not account for the precision movement or the fact that the object held its position for so long.
A cargo pilot flying over the remote Yakutia region of Siberia spotted something on the ground below that made him zoom in for a closer look.
Stretching across the rugged snow-covered terrain was what appeared to be a massive rectangular wall, perfectly straight with sharp geometric edges. It looked artificial. It looked man-made. It looked like something built by a civilization that did not want to be found. Geologists have since identified the formation as the Lena pillars, a natural rock structure of Cambrian era limestone and dolomite that has eroded over millions of years into towering flat-faced columns. From the air, the columns line up so precisely that they look exactly like a defensive wall. a reasonable explanation, but it does not change the fact that on first glance from 35,000 ft, the human brain cannot accept that nature alone built it.
In 2018, a group of hikers crossing the Syskiu Mountains in Northern California filmed something hovering in the valley below them. A dark discshaped object with strange details on the top and bottom that gave it an almost mechanical feel. As they watched, a perfect smoke ring formed in front of the disc. Then, the object vanished into the mist as if the air itself had swallowed it. The footage went viral within days. The most likely explanation is that the object was related to a commercial rocket de-orbit burn high in the upper atmosphere where expelled exhaust gases can form massive symmetrical rings as they expand into the vacuum from the ground. Those rings can look exactly like a structured portal opening and closing. But the hikers insist the object was much closer than that. They insist they could see its surface.
portals or just rocket fuel? Let's debate this in the comments section.
On April 3rd, 2024, before a Spirit Airlines flight had even left the gate in Las Vegas, a woman in the cabin began screaming. Not arguing, not complaining, screaming. Witnesses said her behavior escalated rapidly and the crew called law enforcement. When officers boarded to remove her, she resisted, shouting about freedom. All I care about is freedom. She thrashed and screeched as they tried to restrain her, accusing officers of choking her, accusing them of hurting her, accusing them of touching her leg. The situation became so chaotic that the airline made a rare decision. They evacuated every single passenger off the aircraft so that police could remove her safely. The entire incident was filmed by other passengers and spread online within hours, becoming one of the most dramatic cabin removals ever recorded.
On May 12th, 2022, a Colombian pilot named Horge Arteyaga was flying a Cessna T303 Crusader over the Antioquia region at around 12,500 ft. He looked out the cockpit window and saw a dark saucer-shaped object flying directly toward him at high speed. He grabbed his camera and started filming.
The footage shows the object buzzing the aircraft close enough that you can clearly see its disc shape. It dives, it accelerates, it shoots away in a manner that defies every aerodynamic rule of a stationary object. Some eupfologists called it the best UFO footage ever captured. Aviation specialists later analyzed the video and concluded the object was most likely a large reflective festival balloon, the kind launched during local Colombian celebrations. Because the Cessna was moving at around 150 mph, the relative motion made the balloon appear to dive and shoot past at impossible speed. A reasonable explanation. But Arteaga, who was actually in the cockpit, has never accepted it. 20 moments, 20 ordinary flights, 20 pieces of phone footage that turned a routine trip into something nobody on board will ever forget. Some of them have rational explanations, backwards hoodies, festival balloons, industrial steam, meteor showers. But some of them, the ones that still keep pilots awake at night, do not. The woman who insisted a passenger was not real.
The shape clinging to the wing at cruising altitude. The figure that turned its head toward the camera above the cloud deck. The rectangle that flew calmly along commercial routes. These are the moments that remind us that even in the most controlled environment humans have ever built, the extraordinary still finds a way to invade the ordinary. If you made it this far, do me a favor. The next time you take a window seat, look out at the wing, look at the clouds, look at the rose around you, because the strangest videos on the internet were all filmed by people who were not expecting to film anything at all. They just happened to look up at the right moment. Tell me in the comments which of these 20 was the one that got under your skin the most.
And if you want to see the next part of this series where I break down the moments pilots themselves refuse to talk about on camera, that video is waiting for you next. I will see you there.
