[00:00:03]We got a song from Hyunjin. This is only 2 weeks ago this came out and it's it's got like 8 million views on it. I'm like how is that? Like I haven't had 8 million views on any of my stuff in all of the whatever many years that I've been doing this. So I'm I'm impressed.

[00:00:20]2 weeks blows me away.

[00:00:22]So I had to practice saying Hyun- Hyunjin as well. So I hope I got that right.

I'm a professional singer and professional vocal coach and I'm going to analyze the vocals in this. So it is a educational fair use use of this kind of educational platform to educate people on how to sing more like Hyunjin. So I hope I hope we can achieve that.

[00:01:22]We're going to listen to what he's doing and we're going to try to um we're going to try to demonstrate some of the things that he's doing. So I'm probably going to sing terribly through it. You're welcome in advance and um just try to kind of tell you kind of what techniques he's using to sing the way he's using.

[00:02:16]So he's like he's he's got a really good brightness to his voice and it's it's very he's like really really strong head voice and this is something that like for all of my students because most of the students that come to me are male and they're a little bit older like me kind of like guys, you know, 30s and above, you know, up to 70s. I think I've got even somebody in that.

[00:02:40]Yeah, so and yeah, actually yeah, he's over over 72 or something like that.

[00:02:46]Amazing singer by the way like um so David shout out.

[00:02:51]Probably not watching this but uh so I always encourage them to strengthen your head voice and then you can move everything down. So you hear people talk about mixed voice or whatever. Maybe you don't. I mean maybe you're just like I just react to the video. Just make funny faces and then um but anyway, if you do hear about that sort of stuff, it's always important to strengthen head voice and then move that down so you have that coordination all the way down through. But let's just go back to this.

[00:03:27]You probably clicked on that because you saw it is Lover but I rather foolishly didn't prelude with that that that that really critical information. So I'm sorry about that and you know Let's go.

[00:04:57]You start with that kind of I know it's like quite like that thin kind of falsetto but when you start with that and you can kind of build a little power into that from that place, that's always the best way to go rather than try to go oh here's my voice I can't make it go up to lover lover lover. See and then you get stuck. You just you're goosed as they say. Anyway.

[00:05:28]>> [singing] [music] >> So here he's doing a little bit breathier, right? It's not that Lover lover lover not that bright. Here it's kind of So go back to here.

[00:05:43]Why you acting like it's me? Ah it's kind of a little breathy.

[00:05:47]But you know, that's just the kind of okay, it's this is the moving down to the you know, the boom chicka wow wow, you know, that kind of mood.

[00:06:00]>> [music] [singing] [music] >> So let me go back to this one part here, right? This cuz this is this is pretty this is pretty cool here what he's doing here. This Right here hang on here.

[00:06:51]So there going back to like quite a bright sound. In your eyes.

[00:06:58]And he's also doing what I can hear is kind of a little bit of a laryngeal tilt to make that brighter. When you do a laryngeal tilt it's that kind of a yawn.

[00:07:06]Uh uh in your eyes.

[00:07:09]You can if you do a yawn and you can hear that kind of uh the the larynx when you yawn the larynx tilts forward. That's why people can when they yawn like kind of make that you know, that that bright sound. This is kind of tilts the larynx and when the larynx tilts forward whoop it's oh my god, don't do that, Jim.

[00:07:30]It stretches the vocal folds. So the larynx tilts forward and the vocal folds run front to back. Like that's the top, you know, if you were looking down through your gob you would see them there going Hey, my name is Jim and I have a vocal coaching channel on YouTube. Anyway.

[00:07:46]But when you yawn and you your larynx tilts forward and it stretches the vocal folds a little bit more. So they come together a lot easier, a lot nicer and a brighter.

[00:08:05]I can never say it again.

[00:08:07]It's kind of keeping it right light and bright and a little adding a little bit of this kind of pharyngeal constriction.

[00:08:15]I know that doesn't sound like I'm so chill out but like it's that's kind of what he's doing to get that. I'm doing over accentuating it.

[00:08:49]But he kind of went, you know, lover lover lover needs hug because she went away. It's kind of like yeah, it's kind of you can do that with lyrics. You know what I mean when you're singing and you you you can do whatever you want.

[00:09:02]>> [music] [music] >> Ooh there he kind of went into like a little bit of a more hard to say really accentuating the breath, opening the pharynx a little bit more in the back of the mouth. I can never say it again.

[00:09:31]Kind of raising the soft palate. You can hear the just the difference in the two there.

[00:09:39]>> [music] >> And I like how he's kind of going in between English and Korean. I think that's what he's speaking. Korean. I don't speak it so I mean I barely speak English so you're lucky even if that's happening.

[00:09:56]It's still kind of a little breathy and then I can't say it again. And then but then >> [music] >> So that's no good okay so so you kind of lifts the soft palate opens up the back just to get a little different sort of sound or different just shapes the mouth to get a little bit different sounds.

I wanted a little bit of predictability.
