just you know i organized a lot here so if you can just be patiently with me that would be wonderful the other thing i want to do is open that one uh that's right so i just pulled him out of there and i want all of those and so i'm just getting some things sorted and so i need that one and wonderful and i just need to put that there like that pick those up all right so i'm nearly ready okay sorry i just wanted to enable those which i've now done yeah terrific okay hi vincent how are you all right so i am streaming this to youtube again so i'll just um grab that video url and pop it in the messages for zoom in case anybody wants to look at it from that point of view uh that's fine either way and then i'll put a recording up later on so there you go all right welcome also i thought what we'd do is we'd have a go at the tutorial and um uh we'll do that what i'd like to do though is i'd like to just quickly check something here so i'm going to be a bit cheeky here i'm going to go zoom now it's uts meat you can put it in the line here yeah that one forward slash join now if all goes quite well you'll ask me for that one and i'm gonna put that in so this is not ours this is somebody else's so i'm trying to be very cheeky so please bear with me 498.222 and i just don't know what's going to happen here but uh let's see pretty exciting okay uh no i don't want to do that well that's not what you told me before you said i could do it at the same time all right well that's not going to happen so let's just get on with it um it used to be that you'd be able to join up too so i might have to pause if i get a request from talib so um i might have to just pause and come back but i can do that at any time okay so uh let's um move on shall we um what we're doing today is we're doing our workshop and so we'll have a look at the tutorial and then we'll uh move into the lab part hopefully you've all had a look at the orientation session and so um you've been able to see what today is about on many different levels i hope that's been the case okay all right so let's uh move to where are my paths okay that's what i want over there like that okay so the first part is designed to um just go back over and ease us back into some of the thoughts that we had in the lecture and the second part is for you to go away and mull over and think about how you might unpack those okay so um in that way we get a bit of a revision now these tutorials are the best way to revise for the exam the first part of the course the first couple of weeks in particular are a bit tricky and a bit daunting so i want to see two of these in that regard you know i'm not a monster and i'm not going to hit you with 11 weeks of just hair pulling theory we're going to get into some practical ideas that we can do and that should be very helpful okay rather than because i've already said the subject's very exciting so i can't turn around and say it's very exciting and then put the fear of god into everybody that's not really very fair so um it's just all about easing our way through the things that are difficult and i'll tell you when they're difficult and you already know when they're difficult and uh then addressing those things that are a bit easier all right in terms of our question here we've got our draw the following sets on the real line and find an upper bound what does that mean and at least upper bound okay so who can tell me about upper bounds what do we know about them what have you learned so far about upper bounds i made the subtle distinction in in in the um in the lecture what do we know about it offered an upper and upper bound so there's any number of upper bounds isn't there there's any number of them and that doesn't jump out at you your intuition doesn't tell you and then we've got a leased upper bound what was the distinction between the two when we took a set we said that the upper bound could be outside of the set okay so any of the numbers that go beyond 10 in this first one okay and we can do them we can we can use absurdity okay we can use absurdity to understand the upper bounds okay 10.001 any number of decimal places that you like okay what about the least upper bound the least up and down was particular wasn't it who can give me a suggestion for what the least upper band was when i turn my head i'm just looking at the chat so the least upper bound is this guy okay so for our particular um the least upper brown it's the supremum of our set i won't do this for every one but we'll just get it out of the way for the first one okay this premium of this and that is 10 okay that's all we would that's all we were looking to do for that particular one okay all right what about for b what's happening with these numbers this set what can you notice about this set what's it doing let's draw it and see if we can't make some sense of it so we're going from a half so let's start off with zero we'll go to a half okay and then three quarters so if one's there three-quarters about here what's after three-quarters seven-eighths so that's more than three-quarters that in in quarters uh if this was in eighths you double it so it'd be six eighths so seven eighths is a bit further along okay seven eighths what about fifth sixth eighth so in sixteenth three quarters would be twelve sixteenths fifteen sixteenths is a bit further along isn't it so it looks as though in this particular set they're gravitating towards some point okay and the dot dot dot tells us that this list what's another name for all of these lists by the way i've used the word list particularly these first two uh what's another name for them this can be interchangeably used with um yeah they are sets but in that form we can call them a sequence ah the dreaded sequence okay so for these guys here this dot dot dot tells me that we can keep going in this same kind of pattern and what is that pattern that's an interesting idea if there is one we're skipping a little bit ahead of ourselves is it working its way towards one is it working and this is one of the great questions of discovery when you go into this area of mathematics this is an analysis idea okay but i don't want to skip too far ahead at this point okay so what i'm going to ask is an upper bound what's a valid upper bound this particular set a valid upper bound could well be any number greater than one okay the least upper bound we think we think is one now that's not in the set but why do we think it's one okay why do we think it's one so if we've got a a bunch of n equals here what do you notice about this set so it's 1 over 2 to the power 1 3 over 2 to the power 2.

[00:11:03]7 over 2 to the power 3 2 t is the 42 is 8 15 over 2 to the power 4. so there's a definite there's a definite implication that this is a sequence and then this tells us that the dot dot tells us that so does it arrive at one that's a question for another day we're not going to discover that today okay so by in inserting smaller and smaller amounts does it actually get to one theoretically if we think about this idea does it ever get to one is it ever the case that it gets to one is there a is there an equation that we can put in here um that tells us what by definition what this sequence is does it exist and does it tell us about one these are referred to as closed forms closed forms is there a closed form for this sequence okay not this week week three the skills test starts in week three so um this is week two we're getting we're getting away from the idea here but if it is one then our least upper bound is one so that's got a qualification on it because of the open-ended nature of that question so we need to be a little bit smart about how we answer that type of question okay all right so for c let's have a look at c uh we've got our set notation we've got minus two inclusive so we've got minus two inclusive and one is not included okay so it goes like this so a least upper bound and an upper bound so an upper bound could be a valid upper bound could be i'll just put an upper bound could be two that's up here somewhere isn't it okay and our supremum what's our supremum our supremum would be one the upper bound for this particular set all right for d let's go on so we've got our set what does this tell you z minus three it's the distance isn't it it's the distance of uh z minus three in vertical bars like that okay you'll skip me ahead a bit i'll give you credit for giving that up but we're not gonna we'll get to that a little bit later in the course okay so how would you check that that's a better question that's a nasty question if you're not sure what's a shortcut to checking that kong what do you think would be a shortcut what could we use to check i'm a bit of a fan of technology what's the technology we could use to check what you've written there what's the technology you could use to check that i wonder if mathematica could do that do you have you worked out how to put that interval from alpha yeah why don't you give it a try well don't give it a try too much because we've got to concentrate on this all right so for our set for zed uh we've got a radius and a center okay so we've got a radius and a center don't we that's how we interpret that radius in the center it's a ball that's the definition of a ball isn't it okay so what's our center so our center is going to be two and we go up three which would be five and down uh down to one is it one or negative one negative one okay and so a valid upper bound would be six and what about a soprano would be this guy five okay all right a oh union means the union of the two sets so we've got two and three union two sets um so what do we think for that one the curly brackets tell us what that they're not included so we've got two to three and three to four so that's the uh thing so the upper up any um valid upper bound might be ten in our supremum okay oh i love this question question two i love it question two is write the following expression in plain english who wants to do that for me write the following expression in plain english i'm a big fan of this type of question that could be a hint wouldn't it so just to rewrite it just for the fun of it oh don't we love our set notation what do we think i suppose there are a number of different interpretations the set of number x which are both the following condition so you're on the right track okay the infinum tells us is the is the greatest lower bound okay so this one here tells us uh is the greatest lower brown so that's i'm taking care of that but you're correcting your assertion there the set of number x which is by the following conditions so it's the greatest lower bound because this is a qualifier for this set so the set would be obey the following conditions but the instrument says it's the greatest lower bound of the set x such that x now these are greater than okay so x is but what is the what is the qualifier here this one says greater than so i'm going to say such that x is strictly it's a strict application of greater than because it's not inclusive strictly greater than 1 and we can use the same idea strictly less than 5 because it's not inclusive okay so uh i think we're pretty happy with that all right question three uh compute the following supremum the infinum and the supremum of okay so what have we got x squared so x squared is a simple thing isn't it okay what's included two is not included is it so i have to do this okay so we've got four that's enough so in a sense we've computed this because we've taken into account this one here okay all right for part b uh the informal of some function uh for the function f of s two square cos squared x now what's two cos squared x look like you can tell me what cos squared x looks like and two cos squared how am i gonna do what am i gonna do has anybody got a suggestion if you're not familiar with it you're being asked you're not going to turn to the person next to you and say what's that look like you're going to go and find it out for yourself so how are you going to do that somebody suggested it before that's right we're going to have a look at cos squared x and we can do that and see what that looks like cos squared x let's see if it processes that i left the gap deliberately and it did oh look at that and it's got a maximum of one okay so what about if we put a two out the front how's that going to change it and it's all positive do you see that it's all 0 to positive the cost squared function let's see what happens there see if it interprets properly so it's done it's doubled up now it's a 2.

what that function looks like initially then you'll need to inform yourself okay so inform yourself about that okay all right so we have um f of x is equal to 2 cos squared x which is the same as just in case you've forgotten okay it's just convention that it's written that way uh the infamous excuse me sorry about that so we've got the infimum of two cos squared x such that x is less than and less than or equal to 0 and pi so you've got to notice the detail haven't you you've got to notice the set notation did you notice the set notation and the difference that it implies okay you've got to notice that detail that's what we're training you to do right notice the detail you might inform yourself and notice the detail okay all right so for our graph what are we going to have as a solution we're going to have this lovely upper 2 cos wave that's been displaced and so that takes care of the amplitude component no problem there okay and we're going from zero to pi and so that gives us our pi where is the infimum achieved what is it it is achieved here okay and what is that value what's that value yes zero inclusive okay so be careful of what's included and what's not what's strict and what's not strict okay all right so what have we got now oh this is a nice graph c uh 10 to the minus one and we've got big bounds of infinity so it's asymptotic that's the suggestion the suggestion is that we know some functions are asymptotic what does that mean it means they have a limit on where they head so 10 to the minus 1. what's half 10 going to be what's half 10 gonna be how does that make a difference okay and what is the infamous see if we can draw it now you could go off the wall from our offer and check it for yourself but i'd like you to get in the habit of doing this because it's not really that big a deal to draw your asymptotes these are horizontal okay and for half 10 to the minus one why do i draw them horizontally does anyone want to tell me what i thought team was vertical it's a simple question isn't it like asking what's multiplication why do i draw it horizontally inverse great thank you nicholas that is an inverse and that also means that we're not looking to see what are we looking to see here it's going to be between pi and minus pi because it's an inverse okay all right so if it's an inverse we've got pi minus five and what's the increment for this one it's not asking that it's asking the supremum so the supremum's going to be i'm going to put it over here it's going to be equal to pi isn't it the instrument would be minus pi but the other one would be pi all right part four find the interval such that for find the interval uh d such that uh an interval d a set of all real numbers such that set of all real numbers implies um this is the implication symbol isn't it implies x squared is inclusive to 1 and 1.5 okay we want to find a set of values for x such that x squared always lies now we know that x squared is bigger than that so what does that mean what's going on with that so let's draw x squared so here's our lovely x squared we know it goes off in all different parts we get that but this sets bounding us to a small a small number now x squared is the output function okay and we want the d which is what's the d stand for find an interval well we're given an interval and it implies this output yeah so we're looking at the we're effectively looking at the range and we're being asked for the d so on here we've got to find 1 and 1.5 okay so we'll do 1 and 1.5 so that's our interval according to now this seems like a question that we might have picked up on in our our sets wasn't it what's this input interval so there's our d there's our d so what's that input okay for x so f of x f x is an increasing increasing and monotonically i'm going to use that word monotonically i'm going to put it in brackets monotonically increasing function so its minimum its minimum as stated in this interval is one okay so its minimum one so it's minimum one in the interval because we're referring to the interval so we're analyzing just the minimum okay occurs where where does it occur x is the smallest that is this point here smallest and the maximum of this interval that we've been asked to find which is 1.5 where x is largest now what are you noticing about the difference from your training in previous years or previous ideas we're really zeroing in on a segment aren't we we're really being piecemeal and we're really pulling in on a particular view a particular lens and we're asking what's happening around that point okay so d is therefore now i did this in the lecture and it might have puzzled a few of you okay because we're going back to the domain aren't we so this is a squaring function this value of 1.5 is the result of the squaring function so how do we get back to the value that's there it's the square root of that function it's the square root of that value and this happens a lot this is a very basic idea but it's very puzzling when you encounter it and you ask yourself where on earth did that come from that's simply an interpretation of the output domain that we would the output range that we were given so the output range said one well the square root of 1.1 is one so that's why i didn't put that on but the x now is the square root of 1.5 that's the input domain so it takes a little while to get used to this looking at this sort of this lens okay so you don't want to overdo it but when you encounter these questions really just pause and ask yourself okay how do we get back to the domain if we're only given the range okay so in a in a sense you apply the inverse to the answer to get that the inverse of the square was the square root so keep that in mind that kind of thing's a little bit tricky isn't it all right so we're kind of narrowing into the work that we did in the lecture now how we're going for time i think we're okay for time so we've got five so for part a if the distance of x from 2 is less than 0.1 what is the least upper bound of x plus two in english it doesn't seem like a very complicated idea does it and yet to ask what the least upper bound of given the following information okay so what we've got here is to analyze this what do we know about the form of this okay what do we recognize what's the form of this equation okay so if this is true if that's less than 0.1 then what we know from the form of the equation x lies lies in the range of what our center and our radius so it lies in the range of oh i see very important moment okay for you to discover where some of this information is coming from okay so now the ball id seems reasonable doesn't it the study of putting that together seems a reasonable thing okay uh because now that's your interpretation of the forms and i did suggest to you that we have to flip around the different forms okay so how do we do that for two okay so we can choose we can choose because it's an inequality what can we do we can choose to what would be logical to answer this question what would be logical anybody got a suggestion i know i'm stretching you a bit this morning we could choose to add two to that inequality ah okay and so if we did that we would find that all of a sudden 1.9 plus 2 is 3.9 x uh really okay 2.1 plus 2 is 4.1 so without too much drama we've been able to address the question because of the recognition of the forms clever aren't you clever okay so what seemed like a mystery in a puzzle is now somewhat apparent okay so to answer the particular question uh the upper side uh so we can write something that matthew mathy like hints uh x plus two sorry is less than four point one because we're dealing with the upper bound and so the least upper bound and as this is also true when what am i going to say here also true if x plus 2 is negative we can write if you think about it now we can write that thought and what's this one easy peasy okay it's not always obvious analysis when you encounter it is not always obvious and when you get the gist of it you think oh that's so trivial what on earth was going on why did i struggle so much with that definition okay why did i walk so big at that okay but when you start to break it down this is what your training requires your training requires you to really think about what's the information that's there in front of you all you know about forms you know about how they uh dictate the set and then you can think about how you're going to put those together logically what can we do to it so in maths that what can we do to apart is a bit that unless you've done poor unit i don't know how much of it came out in the previous subject but that what can we do to it to to satisfy the question okay and i've kind of open-ended that by putting it that that way all right there any thoughts or queries about that thus far you're happy for me to move on okay all right very good so uh what we want to move on to here is uh part b uh so we've got for part b if uh same kind of thing be careful of the form what does that mean think about the ball think about the set the ball on the set okay what else can we say about that if this is if this is the case if if this is the case then what else can we write going the other way that'd be true i mean if it's smaller than that it's got to be smaller than that it's very elegant isn't it it's a very elegant one i think now we think about the ball um so what does that do that implies the distance the radius and the center and we call that the upper bound or our m okay so sometimes uh it pays just to just concentrate on an idea for a little while thinking about how that unfold the ball and the radius idea it's a big one isn't it the ball and the radius and the set it's a big deal okay it's a big big deal so i know i made a bit of a fuss about it and i you know the set of a number x which obey the following conditions and i did that about 20 times now you know why you know because i'm trying to get you to realize what you've got to learn what you've got to when you learn something you know it you remember it it becomes what recognizable okay becomes recognizable to you and so we need this recognition in mathematics mathematics is all about this recognition and all of that comes about from the different forms and seeing what you can see all right so that one there will be downloaded so we'll click on that to download now you may have noticed that there's a pdf version of that that's fine if you want to have a look at that that's fine the pdf version is fine okay the next thing we want to do is we want to go to the supporting websites and we want to open all three of these okay so open all three of these i'm assuming that you guys are all going to do this along with me so you press that one you press that one and you press that one okay and we've opened three tabs now what i'm going to ask you to do is i'm going to ask you two that we're interested in coordinating with okay so i've already downloaded uh just did it then for you so we're going to go to try jupiter lab so click on try jupiter lab and see if you can open that up now residing in my downloads is the file that was just put in there just a few moments ago so i'm going to call that back up in a moment okay and we'll work together with both of these to get this done now don't worry about this website at the moment let that just sit there because we want to get the file loaded up and working if we can okay all right so what we'll do is um we've got to use the little upload button so you can see the little upload button there upload files okay so we need to get that upload and we need to go and find the lab1 file and put it in okay so we put that in now it's in the list the but the fact that it's in the list doesn't mean it's been loaded yet okay so we need to double click on that and it will load all right so i'm going to be a bit of a screen hog and give it mostly over to the plot so that we can see how these things go together all right now in this case here what i want to remind you of is a lot of programming subject so there are some simple things that we want to learn but we don't want to be over emphasizing it that previous bit that we just did emphasis emphasis emphasis this bit here this is worth 10 overall if you look up your subject outline you'll see that the lab work that we're doing is worth 10 overall so each one of these testing things that we're doing is a little bit less than one percent of your overall mark so i don't want us to be hung up on this this is uh a bit lightweight in some ways i'm not asking you to be a python programming or a mathematica expert although if i were going to have a choice i would choose the mathematical one but i want you to be aware that the different types of tools exist and they're well within your remit to use okay they're well within these are aids to you guys that stuff that we just did that's what this is all about this is going to help you do that stuff so these technology tools are things for you to use you put them in your suitcase or your handbag or your toolbox there for to to build you up not to pull you down so don't think for a moment in looking at all of this you see all the code you know oh my goodness have i really got to no you're not going to be assessed on this in that way it's not going to be an in-depth assessment okay it's going to be using the tools to help you to augment what you're doing okay the assessment is lighter much lighter than that idea okay so hopefully that's a little clear okay so how are we going for uh reception and all of that stuff i just noticed that comment okay you can always catch up on the recording there's a recording that i'll post shortly but let's have a look at this so we know with the plotting that's what we're looking at today plotting so the plotting requires us to use a symbolic maths plotting library simpy and the way that we do that is we import it now in a way if i put a star there it will bring everything that's in the library into this environment into this python 3 environment and so instead of inviting everything in i'm just saying let's get plot let's get symbol let's get square root and bring them in okay a sub of plotting import these other things so we've got some functions that we're able to call on some of these plots and it allows us to use them as tools this call here tells us what version has come in what's the version that's coming in so uh very straightforward just shift enter and what that'll do is tell us that we imported all of those libraries that didn't complain so we've imported the libraries and the version of cp that we're importing is 1.4 can you specify others yes i'll leave all that for you guys now software carpentries is something that's offered at the university and the research hub does offer courses really get into it you know go and join in if that's what you want to do in that way if we do a cartesian line 2x plus 3 there's our equation so we're using the symbol x as an independent variable we're assigning it to this value x and we're going to compute that and then we want it to plot so all we do is do shift enter and it plots a lovely linear graph y equals mx plus b that's all that is very straightforward so hopefully you're doing this along with me as we go okay if we're in the lab i can clearly walk around and see you doing it you guys have to let me know you can give me a thumbs up how about we do it that way um thank you for that i appreciate that thumb up well i don't think i've lost anything mate so oh you may have to go back over the video if you're [Music] if your technology is playing up okay you may have to go back over that all right so um let's have a look at a more exotic plot so we'd like to have a look at this just a little hint there about putting x squared in so there's our function and plot the function and what do we get oh yes it's a very much more exotic function okay we're having a look at a few more so we're importing sine and we're having a look at sine x over x that's of interest to us and we'll be having a look at that in the lecture today i think actually so we go through and import it and assign it it's annoying when you do this is that you you know you're doing something you're putting it in but you don't know you don't see any reward for your effort so in this case here we will and that'll show us what this sine x over x function is so what do we know about that sine x function we're going to explore that today in the lecture somewhat okay so we'll have a look at that thinking about our delta epsilon for that kind of function at school you had a certain uh limited way of looking at the the proof of that but here we will go a bit further in all right so um another interesting one now it's a parametric plot so you remember parameters from hopefully did some parametric work with your vectors and expressing vectors with parameters and planes with parameters and so some of that may not be at forefront i don't want you i'm not going to say you go and run off and learn all that again no we don't need to do that it's a technology tool so provide we use the tool correctly it'll make sense to us okay so a lovely graph there so for parame parametric functions as they get more complex we have to input more libraries and use them so we'll have a look at now you may not have seen this it's a bit early in the course to give you these in terms of expecting you to know because we haven't done the multi-variable part of the course but in effect what this is going to give us is a plot that you may not have seen before aha so we've got a plane okay and so i'll leave you to work through this all we're going to be doing calculus on this kind of stuff later on in the course okay we're going to be finding the maximum minimums the saddle points in the same way that you did for a regular 2d curve but leave that that's the easy stuff oh you say that now okay the hard stuff we've just been doing in the chu this is the fun stuff this is not hard okay don't worry about the plotting you don't need to know all the plotting stuff i will help you sort that through okay this is the fun stuff uh yes it's got a lovely saddle point there it's curving in both ways okay so we'll have a look at the next one and so what we're able to do is a superimposition so we make our plot so we assign it to a variable we don't plot it we don't show it we do the next one separately the third one and then what what this object is being appended with the first dot with the second object so the second object's got the information we want in it it's being appended to the first one the third object's got the information of the graph there it is there and it's also being appended so what will happen now is that we'll pop them all out on the one so all of them have been superimposed so it's a fascinating thing and then you can do more uh with your model so this is all about modeling your data and how you might go about putting those together okay but again just calm down on the whole programming aspect of it it's a demonstration of technology for your edification and in time in time you will learn to add them to your armory i expect you to be able to do that at some point all right so we're very good at cartesian spaces drawing a line in a cartesian or y equals mx plus b what about putting a line in a 3d space what's that look like so again parametric lines you would have used your text to check that if you want to that's fine what about multiple lines well again we make objects we append the objects one to the other okay change the line color so that we can differentiate the two objects in case they're you know that's another idea on top of one another and we can show them there's the hint okay so there's our two lines parameterized so that we can have them in our 3d space so it might seem like i'm going fairly quickly to through them but i'm doing that deliberately because i don't want you to get hung up there's time for you to go back through this and do this on your own to check out what you can change and what you can you know move it around change the gradient all of those things are available to you but for our purposes we just want to get you acclimatised somewhat without overburdening you the overburden was in the tutorial you know why and that's what we're going to stick to i'll be consistent in that okay so in terms of the symbolic plotting library that comes with python it's got some shortcomings and this talks a little bit about that about the shortcomings and so there's an extension that you can use and so these are being invoked now so we're importing it and you can import it as in the previous one we just imported um cp but in this one here now he's getting reported as mp so all future references will be np dot so we'll do mp dot to call them okay so we're going to import the version okay and then give a little detail about what it looks like so that's helpful so there's our matlob version and our numpy version and we'll point a single now remember that we produce them as lumpy and the matte plot library pi plot as plt so all future plt references now are calling this library that's all that means so if we do shift enter we'll pull this up and there's our single point at a coordinate okay x is three y is three multiple points uh there's our array multiple points now plot that please as a scatter plot aha so we're scatterplot okay a cartesian plane lots of them and what does that look like there you go so this is using the different library referencing np and plt okay so over time these are these are great fun tools when you do a carpentry software course at the university which is free you can learn about r or python there's a whole range of things that you can do you can look it up software carpentry uts just do a google search of that you learn all this stuff in a fun way not unlike this where you get a chance to experiment and go away and do things and there's great resources there's no reason for you not to feel as though you can be a user of the technology tool yes there's a bit of programming instructions but they have examples they have lots of examples that you can pop into these boxes and try that's the beauty of the notebook process rather than hard coding functions and you know testing the function compiling and how that's how i did it 33 decades i told you so that's how i had to do all of this stuff if i wanted a graph i had to go through and make up a an actual executable and compile it and make sure the library's matched and then i'd have to do it and when it didn't do what i wanted to do i had to change it all again so this way you guys are learning it's beautiful it's a wonderful tool and then what this is supposed to do is supposed to transition you if you decide to become a bit more of a coder you can do that as an augmented part of gifting yourself for your career so you've got your maths and all the things you're doing there this is an and we've got plots of lines more elaborate plotting and you can play with those now it could have made it all part of the subject but there's actually a subject the programming subject you'd be uh programming subject yourself in the maths faculty okay so don't get hung up on what we're doing here's pretty snazzy stuff for your presentations now isn't it oh you've got another tool to put into one and get to this screen has everyone been able to do that we're going to work by exception so if i don't hear from you if it's silence that means you did it and you're here exactly like i am or you're going to speak up please so abby you need to put in your student id so your student number just your number by itself whatever your number is okay just your number not anything else just a number whatever your student number is okay and then uh yeah don't worry about that the warning is because there's some look i've got it up there too there's some http files that are linked not s says uh it can't nobody looks at your credentials it just takes those two packets of information throws it over to the university the university looks at that the university does all the validation and says yep that's a valid uts student and it throws it back to this page and says let them in and tell them who they are that's all it does okay so you can uh relax about that but it's good that you guys are savvy it's something that i've got to fix all right so uh we're in here we're going to labs and lab one so at this point we should be all there okay so if you can char if you can you can start because you don't need to worry about me if you've done your orientation you know what's coming up so as soon as we click that button and press here it's a one-time only thing so if you submit question three be careful it wants a full graph access labels a legend to title axis cable so be careful of what you think is the right answer there's only one correct answer there okay then we move off to wolfe from alpha so then you'll come over here and try your luck with that again be careful of what you are thinking about what the question is asking because in wolfram alpha we know that it gives if you put something in it'll give a lot of other information but it might not be the actual plot so if you miss one out there you need to take responsibility for that oh boxes so i'm giving you a hint and boxes so i'm giving you a hint okay that's as much as i can do in terms of supporting your students in an assessment i've been very generous so you've just got to make your own way okay 10 easy 10 is all they're worth so less than 1 each week it's not something i want you to fret over but it is something i would like you to be able to do and do well to be honest i think this is the lowercase one is the answer to the question and then you go on to the next question okay so and it's going to be asking you the same thing which one of these is correct well bring it over and try it i want you to have a go please it's important that you do this and get this sorted out all right guys um there's nothing wrong with the questions the questions are beautiful i'm not going to do them for you you have to pay attention what's actually happening there okay what's the difference between will from alpha throws up a lot of information you can type in synax and it'll throw up a lot of information however when you plot pop in plot sign x it gives you a different solution you're not noticing the subtlety so that's what i'm training you to do i'm training you to notice only one of those answers is right on that question four that you're seeing on the screen okay you have to work this out sir yes when i was doing the lab it halfway through just kicked me out and says i don't have access to it i was technically enrolled in the other tutorial at this time but uts timetable didn't always switch when i had selected like a week ago like it switched yesterday or something i
