This plant eats its neighbors πΏ #SwampDodder #ParasiticPlantsAdded:
This is swamp daughter cuscuta grovi and it's a flowering plant that has completely abandoned photosynthesis roots and leaves. It's just a tangle of yellow orange threads draped across wetland vegetation feeding entirely off its neighbors and it finds those neighbors by smell. The seedling detects the volatile compounds plants naturally release and grows toward the best available host. Once it finds them, it coils around a stem, drills in chemically and mechanically, and taps directly into the host's vascular system to steal everything it needs. I like to call it a vampire spaghetti. Have you ever spotted daughter on a walk?
