Weather Impact Alert live update
Added:Good afternoon. I'm K1 meteorologist Chris Ramirez. We are still tracking some downpours that are making their way through southeast Texas. As we take a look at radar, we've had a bit of a break from what we've seen this morning.
We've seen mostly just the cloudy, humid conditions across the Houston area. But as we take a look at what's coming in from the southwest, we do have a line of heavy rain that's about to make its way in towards the Richmond area, even Sugarland area. So, we're keeping an eye on this little band of showers that's making its way in from the southeast. Uh for the most part, the flooding concern for this evening not really high for us here across the Houston area for the rest of our Sunday, but we are still anticipating uh more of that widespread heavy rain chance that will be in the forecast for Monday and into Tuesday.
So, as we take a look at our future track, this all this rain activity is going to wrap up at least by the 8:00 9:00 hours, especially throughout the overnight hours. However, as we head into the early hours of Monday morning, we do have more of that heavy rain potential, especially as we get closer towards 11:30 to 12:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. This is what we're really going to have to keep an eye on those rain accumulations and the possibility for some road flooding here across the Houston area. So, definitely expecting those conditions to remain mostly just very active, a wet and rainy pattern that's going to shape up for the start of our work week. And then again, another break for Monday evening. And then Tuesday, another day of widespread heavy rain potential between maybe three to five inches of rain accumulations uh during the morning hours. This is all a part of tropical moisture as well as a stationary front that's just going to stall over us as we head into the next few days. And uh we are going to keep that daily rain chance there at least each and every day through the middle of the week. So, uh, for today, as we take a look at that flooding threat for Sunday, we are not looking at really any flooding concerns. You're going to just have to dodge maybe another isolated downpour or two as we head into this afternoon. But Monday, Tuesday, that's when that heavy rain is expected. And we do have a high flooding risk for Monday and into Tuesday afternoon, especially in those areas, those low-lying areas, those problematic spots here across the Houston area that really could cause some high water spots in some of those locations. If you're heading out to FanFest, we're looking at those current conditions right now. We have quite a bit of people out there and hopefully they're staying hydrated because we are looking at very warm and humid conditions. Even though the actual temp is 89° when you factor in the humidity feels like 102 degrees outside. So, practice those heat safety measures if you are planning to spend some time outdoors. We are expecting maybe another downpour or two heading into later this evening. So, just keep that in mind if you are heading out. I think for the most part all that rain activity is going to be done at least by 8:00 p.m.
But we're still going to see those feels like temps range between 101 to 102 degrees when you factor in the humidity.
We do have another update from the National Hurricane Center. They have upped that area that we're watching out across portions of central Mexico that has a 30% chance of development within the next seven days. That is an increase from what we saw earlier this morning.
We were at a 20%, now we're at a 30%.
and they have highlighted the entire Texas coast as we are tracking that uh disturbed area that was moving into central Mexico. So, as we take a look at that situation, this is currently showing you uh what we're looking at right now. This is very disorganized.
We're not looking at any disorganized conditions. However, uh it's this area right around here that we're going to have to really keep an eye on. And models are suggesting that this area might end up skirting the Texas coast up towards us as we head into the next 24 to 48 hours. And that really is going to be the cause of that rain, that heavy rain potential as we head into the next two to three days here across southeast Texas. So we are looking at more of that flash flooding concern that will be in place from Monday and into Tuesday as we are going to see more of that widespread rain at least lasting through Wednesday.
You see the center of that low that's currently to the south of us. The National the National Weather Service has issued a flash a flood watch uh in effect through Wednesday evening. That does include all of southeast Texas from Huntsville, Conro, Houston, Angleton, Galveastston, Baytown, even all the way towards Celely. So all of our entire viewing areas under a flash flood watch until Wednesday morning. And that's when that rain is going to really start tapering off. But we very well could still see more of those uh higher flooding concerns for Monday and into Tuesday. This is the flood risk for today. They have increased it to a slight risk. I don't think we're looking at more of that flooding risk for us here across the Houston area for the rest of today. It's more so on Monday is when we're going to really see the increased risk for flooding, especially across the Houston area. But as we take a look at radar right now, we are looking at a quiet afternoon for the most part, but we are still not out of the woods in terms of another downpour or two that could make its way into the Houston area within the next maybe two hours. And we do have a little band of heavy showers that's making its way along Highway 69, along Highway 90, and that is pushing towards the Houston area. This is quite far away. So, it's going to be interesting to see if this is actually going to hold up by the time it makes its way. But, it's a very thin area of heavy rain showers that is that that will be moving through. So, it's not going to last long. So, we do have maybe another downpour that might be moving through our area here in the next 45 minutes to an hour. But, as far as your 7-day forecast, we are looking at, of course, Monday, Tuesday, weather impact alert days. We are going to really keep an eye on the higher threat for flooding across our area as we could see some widespread rain chances. So, highs in the 80s, lows in the 70s, but we're going to keep that daily rain chance in the picture each and every day for the rest of our work week. So, it's going to be back to that wet and rainy pattern here across Houston going through at least next weekend. But, uh, Monday, Tuesday, the days that we're looking at that we're going to might see more of that higher flooding concern and that higher flooding risk. So, as we take a look at the potential rain totals at least through Wednesday, we could see some areas between three and five inches of rainfall at least through the middle of the week. And if we get all of that rain in a little amount of time, that really does increase the flooding potential. When we get that 2 to three inch per hour rain usually sometimes that we usually get during this time of year, that really does give us a more of a higher flooding risk. it doesn't allow that water to drain off here across the Houston area, especially as we head into those afternoon hours. So, uh be extra cautious if you are heading out maybe to work or to uh uh any other outdoor activity for Monday and Tuesday. But we are looking at more of that higher flooding risk heading into the start of our work week. So, uh, also the tropics.
This is all thanks to that tropical moisture. And we are looking at more of this active pattern in place at least through the next, uh, few days starting tomorrow. But today, not so much in terms of heavy rain or any type of flooding concerns, but we still might get maybe another downpour or two, especially as we see another round of showers and some moderate to heavy rainfall that's making its way in towards the Sugarland area here in the next 35 to 40 minutes. We're also looking at some heavy rain and some lightning that's happening out in eastern Harris County that's moving over Lake Houston. Even Huffman seeing some heavy rain right now that's moving along the Grand Parkway and Highway 90 out towards Liberty. But for the most part, that's the only rain concern that we're seeing right now. As we take a look uh elsewhere across the state, it's for the most part we're quiet in terms of anything south of us. But the what really is uh good for us today is that we're not looking at any more showers south of us. And as we lose that daytime heating as we get to the cooler parts of our afternoon and evening, that's when we'll start wrapping up that rain chance, especially for this evening. But like I said before, Monday, Tuesday, those days that we're going to have to really keep a close eye on and be extra weather aare because we do have the potential for some heavy rain and that could give us some flooding concerns here across the Houston area. And of course, that is our 3 PM update. We are give going live every hour or whenever we see fit, especially as we track the potential for this rainfall, especially for this week. Make sure to tune in in a little under an hour. I will have the next weather update. Of course, I'm meteorologist Christian
