This weather forecast explains that southern Maine will receive 2-3 inches of rainfall through Friday, providing relief from severe drought conditions, while northern and eastern Maine will remain drier due to a low pressure system running up the Atlantic coast that draws in drier air; the forecast predicts nice weather with temperatures in the 70s and comfortable conditions for the weekend, with only isolated showers expected on Sunday.

Welcome back. I'm Nicole Daffan, here with Alan and we're going to talk about >> asking it's best if we just talk about dot dot dot.
>> Well, just just get through the next two days.
>> Okay, yeah. I agree.
>> we have kind of like a a mock Memorial Day almost because it's going to be so beautiful, right?
>> played out like that for Memorial Day.
>> That's what I'm talking about.
Yeah. We're going the right direction and I will also say that even though it's going to be rainy, especially in southern Maine, um tomorrow and maybe into Friday a little bit, it's still a beneficial thing because we're in big time drought in that exact area of the state where two to three inches of rainfall um are in the forecast. This is through Friday, but a lot of that falls tomorrow late afternoon and night. Totals trend down as you get more to the north and east. But look at the drought. This orange color, that's the severe drought and that's where the worst of it is in Maine and it's congruent with where we're thinking uh the most rainfall will be had through Friday. There are some light showers working through the state right now, probably going to get into some of that in the Portland area if not already. Um these are pretty light though. We're not seeing much yellow on the returns except for up into maybe Aroostook County north of I-95. Uh but generally this is a light rain if not just drizzle or sprinkles. This is the feature, one of two areas of low pressure that are going to impact us.
This gets closer to us into tomorrow, but there's a a secondary low that'll be running up the Atlantic and this is going to be the beefier of the two systems. Um so we'll start Thursday afternoon where the western half of the state and more so into New Hampshire, that's where the rainiest areas will be.
It'll be a lot drier in eastern Maine, down east Maine Thursday afternoon.
But what will is this low will fall apart and decay a little bit, but it'll still have enough of an influence to pull in moisture and send it toward southern Maine. If this low was not in play, this moisture field would likely be a lot more broad and totals as a whole would likely be lower.
But because this one is running up the Atlantic, the north side of it's going to draw in drier air and that's what's going to keep a lot of northern and eastern Maine much drier compared to western and southern Maine on Thursday. Then just a few lingering showers Friday before it's off to the nice stuff on Saturday Sunday, milder, drier conditions. A weak front comes in Sunday that may trigger an isolated shower, but I think we're set up for a pretty good looking weekend ahead of us to the tune of 70s widespread sans the mid-coast and down east coast Sunday a little warmer, upper 70s, maybe a run at 80 for some. So the sunny delight checklist, it's not just the temperatures, it's the dew point, it's going to be nice and comfy and the winds will not be overly aggressive. A very nice one ahead of us. 2 to 4 ft seas on the water tomorrow, southeast [snorts] wind 10 to 20 knots. Again, rainy tomorrow, especially in western Maine, drier to the east. Lingering stuff Friday, and then Saturday [clears throat] and Sunday just look really nice. There is that rain drop Sunday, but it will be isolated as a weak front comes through.
You see the effect of that front show up on Monday with cherries. That's 66 in the forecast for Monday, >> [snorts] >> and then maybe 80 by Tuesday of next week.
>> those wind numbers because it can be 70, but if the wind is >> Yeah, yeah, it's not as nice, but it doesn't look overly strong, the wind, at least Saturday Sunday, yeah. Nice, thanks, Alan. You're welcome.
