In gold mining operations, success requires persistent problem-solving and self-reliance, as demonstrated by miner Chris McCully who overcame multiple equipment jams during a solo dive to achieve his 300-ounce seasonal goal, proving that determination and technical skills can overcome equipment failures in challenging mining environments.

Chris McCully Pushes For 300 Ounces With Risky Solo Dive Amid Equipment Failures | Bering Sea GoldHinzugefügt:
Just down the road. We're in the mid-season. I'm actually falling behind a little bit. We're getting to that point now where I really have to >> [music] >> stay focused on how I can pack those hours in because days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer. It's going to start to get cold and it's going to start to get nasty and you know, pretty soon it's going to be all over.
A second generation miner is determined to make his own mark as the first half of the summer draws to a close.
We started off doing so good until I lose a couple divers. I can't find no good help out here. That hurt the operation big time.
But just can't give up right now. You got to just go out there and go dredge.
When you're the son of a big-time gold miner, a lot of people think that I can only make it by just riding my dad's coattails.
Yeah.
So, I really wanted to prove everybody wrong. And one way to show the doubters is to dive solo without tenders, without anyone. But, I tried it twice. It was still way tougher than I imagined.
Damn it, I got a jam. Got no suction.
Right there.
UH IT OH, IT'S WRONG.
GUYS, THEY'RE NOT EVEN NEAR YET.
LET'S GO GET SOME GOLD.
SO, today I am really determined to do a solo 6-hour dive.
It'll be a really perfect way to end my first half season.
And most importantly, it'll get me back [music] on track to hit my goal.
It'll prove without question that I'm my own man.
I'm really stoked to go back out there again and get it.
Yeah, there's Bill Jug right there.
That's the golden booby.
There's the honey hole.
Right on the money, dude.
Set up the gear.
Yeah, I can just sense something right here. Something real good about to happen over here.
I'm on the spot called Wall Street.
When I can actually dive, it keeps paying out.
Right now, I can't afford any more snacks.
I really need to get back down there and I really need to stay down there and grind and get that gold.
For most guys, it was just like, oh, I got no tenders.
Well, for me, I'm going to get it.
Nothing's going to stop me from getting it.
>> [sighs and gasps] >> Woo!
All right.
Just emptied the nozzle.
>> [sighs] >> Back in biz, baby. Let's go.
Let's bust it.
Look at that damn rock.
Oh.
Stuck up over rock.
Hopefully it goes through.
I got no suction.
Damn it, I got a jam.
Climbing up.
>> [sighs and gasps] >> It's not in the hose.
It might be in the jet.
Okay, well got to go back up and uh ram rod the jet.
Okay, well Another rock jam. I can't believe this happened again. I was doing everything I can to avoid it.
If I can't get this thing out, there's no way I'm going to hit my 300-oz season goal. And honestly, people may start to doubt that I'm the real deal.
Damn it, man.
That's right there.
Yeah, I'm going to get some gold.
On his third attempt at a solo dive, once again, Chris McCully finds himself in a real jam.
Yeah, dude.
The Bering Sea gods think that they can stop me, but not this time.
I cleared the jam and I got everything back running again on my own, without any help, and that's just the way I like it.
But really, there's no time to celebrate. I really need to get back down there and suck up some more gold.
I'm going to go ahead finish my dive here.
I'll see you guys in a couple hours.
Back in the nozzle.
Ah.
All right, in between these two rocks, there could be good pickings in there.
Yeah, look at that wild. Woohoo!
Woo!
Woo!
Yeah!
Woo! Woo!
Yes!
Wow!
Oh yeah, that's the next spot right there.
Next spot right there.
Wow, dude.
Yeah, I don't really need a tender right now.
I'll just wait the incident and I did it by myself.
Wow!
Lots of gold down there.
So stoked.
While one miner goes it alone, back in Nome, Bring one up? We got to pull it all off anyways. Yeah.
on a potentially ground-breaking day, the Ten Off team The scrapers are here.
has some company.
That's what they do all day. They just sit around.
Two boys and power tools, whatever you.
Today is potentially a huge day for us.
We've been crushing it this summer.
