Weather forecasting involves analyzing storm systems to predict precipitation patterns, snow line elevation, and temperature changes across different regions. In this case, Southern Colorado experienced a spring storm system with heavy snowfall in mountainous areas (Teller County, Park County) and rain in lower elevations (Pueblo), with the snow line dropping to 6,000 feet. The forecast predicted precipitation ending by mid-morning Friday, followed by sunny weekend weather with temperatures in the 70s, demonstrating how meteorologists track storm movement, moisture distribution, and atmospheric conditions to provide accurate regional weather predictions.

Absolutely beautiful start to the day in Teller County. Thank you, Kim, for sharing your view from Divide. Had heavy wet snowfall in Teller County, Park County last night. You've had the bulk of your snowfall from this storm, but still some showers are expected here this evening. We're starting to see the totals starting to stack up the further south we go as the storm system itself is moving southward. We've already had great moisture across the region, and the storm is not quite done yet. Uh so, across southern Colorado, we've got this nice swath of rainfall. Most of this is kind of hugging the Arkansas River, and the heaviest precipitation is south of there. There still is some active precipitation here in the Pikes Peak region, uh but it looks like definitely last night was the heaviest that we're going to see in our area, but the rest of us finally getting in on that good moisture. We still have winter storm warnings in pink, winter weather advisories in purple in place. This is where, especially tonight and tomorrow morning, the travel will get tough as what roads are wet right now will become slick or snow-covered tonight. So, even though Woodland Park woke up with a winter wonderland with the break in the snow today and the little bit of heat we've had and the extra traffic, the roads are doing fine right now, but any additional snowfall here for tonight in the mountains will lead to tough travel.
But, here in Pueblo, it's just going to stay as rain, and we'll just have wet pavement, maybe low visibility on the roads as the water is kicked up by other cars. So, taking you through the Futurecast, uh still likely to see this precipitation active through the rest of the night. The snow line is hovering around 7,000 to 8,000 ft I do expect that snow line to drop to perhaps as low as 6,000 ft in elevation tonight, which would include Trinidad, Walsenburg, Colorado City, Monument as well, probably. And so, likely to see some snow accumulating on the grassy surfaces at those low elevations, uh but higher up, especially above 8,000 ft, we'll see those additional snowfall uh amounts continue to stack up. The main change in the forecast today is most of this is going to be done by mid-morning on Friday.
Initially, we were looking at Friday afternoon as the end of precipitation, uh but it's wrapping up a little bit earlier now. So, our additional snowfall will be on the order of couple inches in our mountain valleys, maybe an inch if you're lucky for I-25, uh most notably northern El Paso County.
So, Monument, Black Forest, you're still likely to get at least some snowfall this evening, but overall, we are looking at this storm wrapping up tomorrow. We've had plenty of moisture already from it. Today was cloudy, cool, and chilly, and tomorrow's also going to be quite cloudy and chilly. We're going to drop to the 20s and 30s tonight and tomorrow. We'll see highs to the 40s and 50s, uh some 60s in the southeastern plains. Looking ahead to the weekend, Sunday looks awesome. We'll see a high of 71. Most of the afternoon will be spent in the upper 60s, and then the rain chances are not gone forever.
Monday, Tuesday bring us some afternoon showers and thunderstorms. This weekend in Pueblo looks lovely. We're in the 70s, going to stay in the 70s for the first part of next week, just a wee bit of a cool down by next Wednesday. In Cañon City, could wake up to a brief wintry mix tomorrow morning, but most of this should be rain for you. Then, this weekend, we clear out, the sun's up, and we'll have 60s and 70s. Finally, for Woodland Park, some morning snow will wrap up by probably 9:00 to 10:00, and then we're melting for the weekend.
