Velella velella are marine organisms loosely related to jellyfish that can be blown ashore by winds, forming distinctive blue carpets on beaches; these dead animals can sting humans but may not always cause reactions, and they often wash up in large quantities covering sand surfaces.

I will admit, they’re a very pretty color #BeachDayAdded:
I went to the beach today and there were all of these blue things covering the sand. I had no idea what they were and Oatmeal kept trying to eat them. So, I looked it up and apparently they're called Velella velella. They're loosely related to jellyfish and occasionally winds will blow them ashore in large quantities forming a blue carpet on the beach. So, they're a bunch of dead animals that Oatmeal rolled on, peed on, and pooped on. Seems very disrespectful to me. I'm not surprised that he walked away with a sand teardrop tattoo on his face. Apparently these things can sting you, but I was walking barefoot and didn't get stung. Also, huge news Oatmeal almost made a friend. I say almost because he got distracted by a dead bird that he just had to roll on.
This made his new friend uncomfortable, so he left. Oatmeal also kind of cheated on his girlfriend. This girl gave him a drive-by smooch, but Oatmeal immediately shook it off and then rolled in the sand. So, I don't think it counts as cheating. All around Oatmeal was just kind of on his worst behavior at the beach today. His recall was the worst it's ever been. It was like I did not exist. So, I put him on leash jail and he was not happy about it, but you know what? I wasn't happy that he rolled in a dead bird.
