[00:01:51]and partly cloudy skies. In other news, a verdict is expected in the trial of Vata Corta County Sheriff Joe Howaladan at the Federal Courthouse in San Marcus later today. Halladan is accused of disregarding the orders of federal agents when he led a rescue effort during a bank robbery and hostage standoff in the rural community of Arletzville, which resulted in the successful rescue of all hostages and the death of all three suspects.

[00:02:21]Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, you're here today to render a verdict on a man who took the law into his own hands.

[00:02:34]He willfully rested control of an FBI operation from the agents on the ground and their superiors.

[00:02:45]He knowingly sabotaged their plan to resolve the crisis.

[00:02:52]There is no place for such arrogance, impertinence, and reckless disregard for authority in the field of law enforcement.

[00:03:07]Now, I realize that the outcome in this case was favorable, that no innocents were hurt or killed, and the crisis was resolved through his actions.

[00:03:24]But regardless, Sheriff Joe Haladan broke the law.

[00:03:30]He exceeded his jurisdiction.

[00:03:34]And as you've already heard from executive assistant director of the FBI, Walter Casey, Sheriff Alladan put innocent lives at risk.

[00:03:46]He got lucky. True, but it was not his prerogative to take that risk. Not when the FBI was already there and clearly in charge of the situation.

[00:04:01]As Sheriff Halladan well knew, when the time comes, I will offer my recommendation for sentencing.

[00:04:15]But right now, I need you to do your constitutional duty and render a guilty verdict.

[00:04:28]And I mean guilty on all charges.

[00:04:32]The law applies to everyone.

[00:04:34]No one is above the law.

[00:04:38]Certainly not some brash, defiant sheriff.

[00:04:45]Joe Allan needs to reflect on that and you need to send him to prison where he'll have plenty of time to do it.

[00:04:59]Now I am sure that you are all staunch patriots and I know that you will do the right thing and for that I thank jurors.

[00:05:32]First, I realize this has been a long and arduous trial, so I want to thank you for your patience and perseverance.

[00:05:39]You are about to retire to the jury room to begin your deliberations, but before you do, I have just one admonition.

[00:05:46]I know that some of you are residents of Vatakorta County and I'm also aware of how popular and wellrespected Sheriff Hallad is in Vatakorta County and beyond. I'm sure his fans would have filled this courtroom to overflowing if I had left them.

[00:06:04]My admonition is you may not allow whatever feelings you have for Sheriff Paladin to affect your decision.

[00:06:12]You must render a verdict based solely on the evidence and the law and nothing else. And if you have any questions about the evidence or the law or anything else, I will be available to you.

[00:06:45]>> The prosecutor's closing argument was about what I expected. But that judge and El Bond went way over the top with his instructions to the jury. He practically ordered them to find you guilty. That could be grounds for an appeal. But you were very impressive with your testimony to the jury.
