To collect all variant covers of a manga volume, collectors should strategically visit multiple retailers (such as Barnes & Noble, Kinokuniya, Walmart, and online stores like Crunchyroll) on release days, as each retailer typically offers exclusive variant covers; timing purchases during sales events and being patient to wait for optimal deals can maximize savings while ensuring collection completion.

Can I Collect All 5 Jujutsu Kaisen Variant Covers? (And Other Manga I Got This Month)Added:
In the last video I posted here on this channel, we were discussing whether the JuiJutsu Kaisen volume 30 variant covers are actually worth getting and if I was going to add any of them to my own personal collection. I answered this by saying that I wouldn't go out of my way to get every single cover except for one. But otherwise, I would be picking up the ones that are just at my regular manga stops. So, in this video, I will be taking you guys along with me as we go manga shopping to hunt down these variant covers. We will be shopping at three specific places and taking you guys along for the journey. So, the first stop in our manga buying journey is going to be Barnes & Nobles. And it's mainly for two reasons why we're doing it today. The first is today is Tuesday.
And I know that sounds random, but it is an important day, especially for manga collectors. For those who don't know, in the US, manga is released on Tuesday day. So, if you're looking for a certain volume or something that is brand new to hit the shelves, Tuesdays are the days that you kind of want to circle or any day that's kind of around that same time. And the second reason is because Barnes & Noble is actually on the way to work. So, I'm just going to be leaving a little bit earlier to go ahead and pick up some of these volumes. I don't remember if Early Connor actually mentioned this, so I'm going to mention it again. We do have a couple of objectives over the course of this video as well, like smaller objectives. Uh, the first is to go ahead and pick up the Jiu-Jitsu Kaisen special editions. any of them that have variant covers that I do happen to like or happen to be at the shops that I do shop at. For example, Barnes & Noble, if they have it, we're going to go ahead and pick it up.
Otherwise, like it's not the end of the world, but if it's there, I'm going to go ahead and get it. Two is to also pick up some of the older volumes that I may have missed. My birthday did pass and I did get a couple of gift cards for some of these retail shops that I'm going to be looking at. So, keeping things in mind that I may have missed in my previous list is going to be important to me so that I could continue to add more to the collection. And the third objective is to go ahead and pick up new volumes of series that I am currently keeping track of. There's a lot of them that do come out every month. And honestly, if you guys are looking for a release calendar or looking to keep track of some of the manga that you want to get, we do have a little like release calendar over on the Discord. but not necessarily every series that I'm collecting are series that you're collecting as well. So, if you want to add certain series to your shelves and keep track of those, I would recommend creating either a spreadsheet or at least a calendar to let you know like these are the series that are coming out on this day. So, yeah, uh it should be able to help you guys out, but we got to go ahead and get ready to go to work and go to the bookstore. So, that's exactly what we're going to do. We're going to go ahead and pack up and head off.
All right, everybody. So, our second stop on this list is going to be Kinounia. And if you guys already know, I love Kinokunia. I love going over there. It's in San Francisco, Japan Town. It feels like home to me. And I also go there like once a month. So, I don't know if the staff already knows me. They probably do by now, but honestly, I'm just there uh whenever there's like a good new drop. So, it's been about a couple days since that Barnes & Noble thing. That's why I have the beard now. Um, but we are going to go ahead and head into San Francisco.
Let's go ahead and pick up some books to add to our collection.
So, our final stop on this list is actually going to be the internet because, you know, some shops aren't necessarily close to me. Now, I know that I said in the JJK video that I'm not going out of my way to go ahead and pick up all these variant covers, but there is one variant cover that I did want to get, which is the Books a Million one with kind of the Goofy cover. Uh, I kind of like that one personally. So, that's the reason why I'm going to go ahead and hunt for that one. But the other thing is Crunchyroll is having its anime sale where a lot of the stuff on the website is actually on sale right now. So, we're going to go ahead and scroll through, see if we can find anything, and add more stuff to the cart. So, we'll see you guys in just a little bit. Also, the microphone's on the coffee cup. It's pretty cool. Now, uh, I'm not going to sip out of this or else you guys are going to hear me sllo around, and that's kind of gross. Now that we are finished shopping, all we have to do is wait for the shipping for the online orders, which should just take about.
Okay, coming on through. Oh, was I supposed to get milk? My bad. Where do we put these? So, it's been about a week since we put in all the orders and we actually went to the stores and everything. So, I've been pretty much holding off on reading anything brand new until I finally do this reveal. So, we're actually going to go in the same order that we did show you guys when we were shopping. So, uh once again to refresh you guys on the order. It's Barnes & Noble, then Kino Kunia, then online orders. Okay, so that's what we're going to be doing today. I'm going to go ahead and show you guys what I got and also tell you guys a little bit about the savings that we got. They are going to change from different places to places because there were different deals going on at different times and for different retailers. But it's a good reminder to let you guys know that sometimes it does pay off to be a little bit more patient uh and wait until there's a certain time for you to go and get everything and then go ahead and jump on the opportunity when you can. So once again, we're going to be starting off with Barnes & Noles. So let's go ahead and get that back. Wait a second.
Wait, hold up. Hold up. Hold up. Before Before we go ahead and hop into what we have in the boxes and in the bags here, I want to ask you guys if you guys could do me one favor. It'd be really cool. Uh if you guys like the video, feel free to comment, share, and like this video. I greatly appreciate it and it shows me that these things are actually worth making and you guys actually enjoy it.
The other thing is if you guys actually enjoy the content and want to see more of it, feel free to subscribe to the channel. We have a whole bunch of other content planned out for the rest of the year. Other than that, uh let's go ahead and check out what what I got. Wait, hold on. You guys got popcorn over there? Hold on. Let me let me get one.
Let me get one.
So, here is our Barnes & Noble haul. It is all in this bag in the tote bag that I've been keeping safe for quite a minute now. for memberships. I will let you guys know for these books in particular, we did buy it at 10% off of MSRP, so it's not too much of a savings, but a little bit of savings goes a long way, especially when you're buying a lot of books. So, uh, I'm going to go ahead and show you guys these in no particular order, I guess. So, obviously, the big one that we did end up picking up was Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 30. This is the variant cover for uh Barnes & Noles that we were looking for. So, another thing to mention is that I was over there with a $50 gift card. It was my birthday and my aunt gave me $50 to Barnes & Noble.
So, I'm going to go ahead and spend it on other books. The first one is one that I was actually more interested in picking up. Here's Ichi the Witch volume 2. So, another volume that we ended up picking up was Dondon volume 18. So, another thing to keep in mind is that Barnes & Noble sometimes will put books out that aren't supposed to be released yet on the shelf. So, if you guys happen to pop in and see it on the shelf, you guys can buy it a little bit earlier or ahead of time. So, the day that we actually shot the Barnes & Nobles thing was on March 12th, which is the official release date of the Jiu-Jitsu Kaisen volume 30. So, we knew that we were going to go ahead and get that one. Now, the one that really surprised me was this one, a series that has been on hiatus for almost 4 and 1/2 years, and I'm finally glad to have it in my hands.
That is the one, the only Yotsuba. Here is Yotsuba uh volume 16. This has not been writing for like literally 4 and 1/2 years. So, I'm excited to finally get this in my hands. I'm glad that Mr. Ozuma is back. And uh yeah, I get to catch up with my small green-haired child uh having fun in life and stuff.
Okay, so I I will I will confess. Okay, I did end up stopping by a Walmart just to see if there was the Jiu-Jitsu Kaisen volume there. They did have it. So, I did end up picking up Jiujitsu Kaisen the Walmart edition. Um, which is the one with Utah on the cover. Um, did not actually expect to find this, especially at my local like Walmart, but it it was there. So, I ended up picking up the best one that I possibly could. And now we have Jiujutsu Kaisen the Walmart edition. You know, you know what would what would probably be better? I'm I'm realizing this now. Okay. I'm sorry to people who actually enjoy these series, but uh we're going to take them down temporarily. I pro temporarily. Okay, we're going to put them back up. Just give me just give me a second. Okay, as stated, we have the Barnes & Noles edition that's going right here. And we have the Walmart edition. Okay, that's going to go right here. So, now that we put our two special editions up here, let's go ahead and move on to our second stop, which is Kokunia. So, let's go ahead and grab that bag real quick. So, this is our Kino Kunia bag. This is everything that we ended up getting from Kino Kunia. And just a heads up during this time, this was the membership sale.
So, one week every I would say like 3 or 4 months, they do a membership sale where essentially if you have a membership, instead of it being 10% off, it's 20% off of all volume. So, we're actually saving a little bit more with this one. So, I am going to go ahead and show you guys what I got. And some of these are some volumes that you guys have been requesting for me to get for quite a while. So, the first one that we're actually going to bring out is the one that we showed probably the most of.
This is Jiujutsu Kaisen Volume 30, the Kinokunia edition. Um, the cool thing about this one is with Kinokunia editions, a lot of them come with Shikishi boards, which are like those little rectangular like art print designs. This one's no different. We have a Jiujutsu Kaisen Shikishi uh that has the full cast on it. So, super excited to get this and that's going to go right here for you guys. Oh, hold hold for sneeze.
Okay, just to let you guys know, because of the 20% off sale, I kind of went a little crazy. I wouldn't say crazy, but like I went a little bit more than what I would normally do, just because I knew that the sale was here and I wanted to make sure that I was capitalizing on everything. Uh, we got Tune into the Midnight Heart volume 7, Mono 4, Kindergarten Wars Volume 4. Okay, and for our last volume, this is something that has been highly requested for me to get, not only to review for myself, but also because I'm a huge fan of this series. It is actually a series that I consider in my top three favorite manga of all time. Here is the Witch Hatilier Grimmoire Edition. Now, the cool thing about the Grimmoire edition from here, we got it from Kino Kunia, is that this actually comes with a little bit of an extra special charm. Um, not only is it, you know, pretty cover with cocoa, hard cover, big print, which we will check out a little bit later in a full video, but you also get a little I don't know if you could see that right there. Um, you get a little keychain of of Coco.
And with that, that is the last of our Kino Kunia haul. And now we get to move on to the last and final bit of this haul, which is online orders.
Essentially, we got Crunchyroll, but we also mentioned that we did pick up one from a different retailer. So, we're going to go ahead and check that one out, too. But, we actually have to unbox these. So, I have to go and get not a knife, but like the pochita keys, you know? Jingle jingle jingle jingle. This is the guy who helps me open my boxes.
Okay, now that I'm done unwrapping everything, let's go ahead and show you guys what we got in here. So, just for reference, I only went out of my way for one volume of Jiujutsu Kaisen because it was the one that I was most excited to get personally, and that one was the Jiujutsu Kaisen from Books a Million.
And this one is kind of the goofy cover.
I like this one just because it's like very light-hearted compared to all the other ones. The other ones have been like kind of, you know, very serious.
But, you know, having a very fun and goofy Jiu-Jitsu Kaisen volume is pretty cool. So, we ended up picking up this one. And this is the one that I was like, "Okay, I will go out of my way to get this one." But all the other ones were just like, you know, coincidence.
Now, let's get into the Crunchyroll stuff. So, as mentioned by the Crunchyroll stuff, there was an anime sale where essentially a lot of the stuff that they had in inventory was going to be on sale during this time.
There were also a couple of other Crunchyroll exclusive stuff that I've had on my wish list for a while, but I was kind of waiting for one of these bigger sales to happen before I go ahead and jump on the opportunity, and this was a perfect opportunity for it. So, let's go ahead and hop into the box.
Okay, we got a commemorative pin. This is the anime uh pin from Crunchyroll.
This is essentially like saying, "Hey, you you shop during this time." Yeah, I guess we go from smallest to largest.
I'm just standing everything up so I I at least know that it's here. So, the first one that we actually got was something that I mentioned a little bit earlier, but here is volume 3 of Mono.
We have Way of the House Husband volume 13. We have ZOM 100 volume 17. I finally got my hands on the last volume of Vinland's August. We got to go ahead and put it on the shelf somehow. Again, re-shelving video again. Okay, so now the rest of the stuff that is in the box, we have three more items in the box. These are all Crunchyroll exclusive items. They were only sold on the Crunchyroll store for a minute and I wanted to pick them up during the sale because some of them were a part of the sale, but others were just like I've had it on my wish list for a while and now is the time to go ahead and do it. The first one is actually an art book, Soul Eater Encore. Um, this is a Soul Eater art book from uh, obviously Okubo, the guy who drew Soul Eater. If you guys do get it from Crunchyroll, it does come with extra posters and extra prints on the back. So, I'm excited to go ahead and crack this open and take a peek at all that. The last two are heading into our, you know, special edition variant cover stuff. This is the witch hatilier uh crunchy roll story exclusive edition.
Um this just has the four girls on the front and on the back it has three of the other girls. Everybody except for Coco. Coco's not invited to the back of cover party, I guess. But overall, you know, another witch hatilier cover.
Super excited to add it to all the other ones that we have already, but we'll we'll do more of a showcase of that maybe later down the line when we head into that kind of series stuff. And last, but definitely not least, the final Jiu-Jitsu Kaisen volume, volume 30. Um, this is the Crunchyroll exclusive edition. So, that one is going to live right here. So, uh, we have collected all five pieces of Exodia, um, aka all five variant covers of Juju Kaisen. Just to go ahead and give you guys a quick tour of all of them, we'll just kind of like shoot over each individual one. Personally, the one that I enjoyed the most is still the Books a Million one just because it's like the most goofy, but the other ones are still pretty cool and we just so happened to catch them when they were available. Um, I told myself if it wasn't going to be available, if it wasn't there, I wasn't going to get it, but we were fortunate enough to go ahead and pick them up as they were in the store. So, yeah. Um, we got lucky enough on all of these. So, the moral of the story isn't for me to just say like, "Okay, yeah, I got all the variant covers. Look at me." Haha.
No. Um, the entire point of this was to actually show you guys what the process is in order to collect variant covers as well. Sometimes you do have to go out of your way and order from a bookstore that may not be in your local area. For example, Books a Million, we actually don't have one within my state at all.
The other ones are, you know, instore exclusives. So, the Barnes & Noble's one, the uh, Kinoia one, and the Walmart one are all exclusive covers that were in store. So, you had to go in store to go ahead and pick them up. You guys can also order them online, which is a possibility, but there's no guarantees that they will actually be in stock. And the last one was the Crunchyroll store just because like it was a part of the bundle of me ordering stuff for the anime event. Um, it made it a little bit easier for me to go ahead and collect.
So, that is going to wrap it up for our May manga haul. I hope you guys enjoyed this video, as well as giving you guys a little bit of insight of how to collect variant and exclusive covers that you guys may want for your own collection.
Before we go, I also want to ask you guys one, did you guys like the content?
I don't know if these manga haul videos are anything that you guys are actually interested in. Also, number two, which is your which is your favorite variant cover and why? Um, I like Books of Millions just because it's more goofy than all the other ones, but yeah. Um, that that's about it. So, if you guys wanted to know if adding the Jiujutsu Kaisen variant covers are actually worth it for your own collection, feel free to click this one. Or if you guys just want to see what's coming up next, feel free to click this one over here. But once again, I hope you guys enjoyed the content. Thank you guys for stopping by.
And don't forget to read more manga.
We'll see you guys on the next one.
