Added:All right, hi. This is Adθ―Ύε in, and welcome to this video. We are doing a bit of a trial balloon here. I'm going to ask you if you'd like to see more Nova Roma videos, basically. That's the purpose This video has two purposes.
That's one, to see if you'd like to have more videos, and two, just to say hi. As many of you know, I only do this when I feel like it. I do not do this for a living. I I do it as a payback to the gaming community that's been so much a part of my life. I like to pay back and and kind of help others become better at games so that they can enjoy them more.
And I think I've been able to do that with a few games, and I think those of you who've joined us on our journey have have enjoyed the trip and gotten more out of your gaming. So, I've been happy with everything, and I truly enjoy talking to all of you in through the comments and and discussing the games that we're playing and and all that good stuff and hearing all the great ideas you guys have about how to play the games better. Now, what I want to know here is uh do you want to see more Nova Roma? Now, let me just show you what Nova Roma is.
Nova Roma is a city builder. It's in early access, and it is based in Roman times, and you are building a Roman city like this one right here.
Uh you can see this guy right here who started building our city of Proctorville. It's really a city-state, kind of a city that dominated that holds a whole region. So, here here you go. We We've got our Circus Maximus and our Colosseum and a big theater and nice housing and temples and, you know, all that good stuff here. We've even expanded out and gone out here and and conquered another area and set up another city-state. I love this one. I wanted to do one that was all farming, basically, and this guy does um a ton of grain farming and apples and olives and grapes and uh makes a lot of bread and and then ships a lot of that stuff back to our bigger city here, which which consumes a lot of stuff at a big rate.
So, um you can go out and do that. When you go to a new island, it's a really a challenging thing to do that. You have to do it right. Um I enjoyed doing that.
By the way, all this is done on hard difficulty. I would play it on survival if that existed. It will in a later update, but uh uh really uh uh fun in in survival or in hard difficulty. You get a lot of big invasions of enemies. You get uh so, you have to fight. You can see all these defense towers we have scattered all over uh Allod Field here, this second city-state. And our first city-state here, Proctorville, uh we have more of the traditional walled in with some towers around the walls.
And we've got some troops uh backing us up here somewhere. We've got We've got uh a couple of infantry units to help us out in case the enemy breaks through. So, anyway, there's all that.
The game has all this kind of neat Roman city architecture and uh really cool stuff with the water, I should mention, uh making dams. And there's all kinds of neat strategies you can do about the the dams and you know, how much water do you do you let out like like uh like that to allow water to flow down through there. See, that's too much. It's flooding my little uh forum there. So, I'll back it off a little bit, a little bit more until I get it right. Uh yeah, that'll that'll do right there.
Got a nice trickle going down through there. And the main thing is we get a lot of floods, uh particularly in hard difficulty, and this dam is set up so that the the backwater and the floods just flow harmlessly out into the ocean.
And the same thing and kind of a even neater thing over here on our farming uh city-state, uh we've got our dam set up and it feeds aqueduct system to uh to give people water and to allow us to have Roman baths and all that kind of stuff. But it has an overflow here, but we went in and did uh some excavation and built an irrigation ditch here to set up really fertile land along here to allow us to do some really good productive farming uh back here on the side. So, um there's some really cool things you can do with the water and with dams and with aqueducts and with irrigation ditches and all that kind of stuff. And I'd be happy to share all that with you. It's really nice. I mean, you can look It's It's a nice visual It's a nice-looking game. Really is. And um you can see this is also set up with farms. They're all like these specialty uh villas that are all farming villas and they uh give blessings, you know, get higher productivity out of the farms. I can even add more farms down here. Uh I really like how this one turned out.
And then we can even like this original farm that was here just feeding people, we could we could blow this up and then we'd have this whole area here we could build uh you know, build uh bigger bigger more housing or or whatever whatever we want to do. You can do whatever you want with the game. But anyway, um would love to share with you Oh, the other thing The other thing that's worth talking about is the logistics.
Logistics are really terrific. Uh Uh a clumsy interface I I'd like to give the developers some feedback on that and I will if I make any more videos. But um the uh a great way of you know, you can like this this this island here Olive Hill uh generates all this farming stuff. The it makes the bread, the grain, the wheat, the bread, the olives, the olive oil, the uh um grapes, the wine, um apples. It it's kind of doing it all and shipping a lot of that back over here to Proctorville.
And the there's a whole setup you have with ships that are taking stuff from the dock of one island to a dock in the other island. And then you set up logistics so that you have ships automatically doing that, carrying stuff between the islands. And you have little carts like this guy right here, these little transport carts that are assigned to these different routes and you can see all these little logistics routes I have set up um to allow us to uh move the stuff like from the dock into a warehouse or to a grainery or whatever. And the all this logistics is stuff that you set up uh and you set up how much of each item do I want to hold and how much do I want to ship off and how where do I want it to go? And >> [laughter] >> you know, where do I it's really a pull model. Where am I going to pull my stuff from? And uh uh coordinating all that is a really good challenge and a lot of fun and a lot of stuff to to talk about there. So, there's just a ton of detail to the game, a ton of a reasonable complexity, but it's still approachable and very playable. And again, I'm doing it on hard. I would do it on difficult if that existed as I said. Um if you played it on normal though, you'd still have to do these same things and still have to figure out these same things. It'd just be easier, you know. You wouldn't maybe pay quite the penalty. And you have governors. You have people here It's time for us to pick a new one. This is our current governor. He's giving our citizens a bonus cuz he's likable and he's improving our immigration cuz he's he's welcoming. But now we're going to have to get rid of him. His time is up. Now we could uh we could reappoint him, but he would lose some of his stuff. And that might be okay if till a better one comes along. But I think if we look at this guy here, he's going to get us 20% discount on merchant sales, which are big. We buy stuff from other other city-states. Um and he's going to help our buildings not to degrade. The buildings all degrade. You have to have masons cover covering them with supplied masons that can go out and repair stuff.
There's a lot lot to the game. It's It's really fun. So, we're going to let's go ahead and appoint this guy as our new governor. And that means they're probably over here ready, too. And by the way, if they get tired of this guy, they start getting really angry. Now, here's a good example. This guy here is pretty is a very good one. He lowers fire risk and he we increases our tax revenue. But both of these have big problems.
Our buildings are going to degrade very quickly, which means our masons are going to be busy and we're going to go through supplies. But it's not a big deal. We're We're good. We're set. We've got a good city. But if we didn't if we weren't doing it well, this could be a real problem. This could be a big problem if we wanted to expand. So now if we were in a situation and again, getting ahead of myself cuz this is the kind of thing I've wanted to cover in videos, but um if we were in a situation where we weren't going to do a lot of expansion for the next 3 years, we could pick him, no problem. Get good tax revenue and not worry about this. But if we were in the middle of expansions or wanted to do big expansions, he would be a bad choice.
I'd rather have some of the buildings fall apart on me and just keep our masons busy. But anyway, I will take this guy. We'll appoint him. And anyway, that that's a taste of some of the stuff going on. You can see all the transport carts I've got running around all over the place. Here on this island, you can see some of the shipping we've got going on here. Ships going back and forth between the two. This should be one right here probably. Yeah, he's bringing some grain over. A small load of grain.
We've got Here's some bread coming over from Olive Hill. And there's an immigrant ship ship that's bringing potential immigrants to uh uh come to our our city-state. Here's a uh uh merchant ship that has just landed.
You can see we can sell if we had something in the dock that he landed at to sell. And we could even have automatic selling orders. And we could be selling stuff to him. And we have we can have the ability to buy stuff if there was something in particular we wanted uh for this particular uh city-state. But they're probably They're starting to get pretty well staffed. I mean uh pretty pretty good considering we've got 1,500 people here. So anyway, that's a taste of it.

Uh I could go back the way the saves are done. I could go back I've got 15 or 20 different saves I could load from various times and show you how we evolved the city over time and talk about some of the key concepts that way.
Or I could just do, you know, I could do fundamentals videos. I think I know the game well enough now to be able to do fundamental videos and and tell you all that kind of stuff.
