The grenade build remains a viable league starter in Path of Exile 0.5 despite receiving no buffs or nerfs, as it is highly Solo Self-Found friendly and relies on finding a good martial arts weapon; the build focuses on defense through armor with elemental damage reduction and prioritizes resistances over damage in early mapping, while offering flexibility to transition to Pathfinder for late-game flexibility.

Grenades Still Broken? My League Starter For 0.5 [POE 2]Hinzugefügt:
Hey guys, in this video I want to share with you my league starter 40.5 and it's going to be the grenade that I so we can take a quick look at the patch notes after this gameplay clip here, but grenades have received zero buffs sorry zero nerves which still makes it one of the best starting builds for PoE.
And for that reason and because I also have already practiced some SSF runs and you can see me clear a tier 15 map after around 10 hours of playing. So all the gear that I'm using here and all skills and all of the stuff is solo self found no trade at all.
And of course I will show you my character sheet later.
And yeah, it just went pretty well. I was a bit lucky with my weapon. I have to admit I have found a pretty good weapon quite early on. So this is what also makes or breaks this kind of build since grenade the grenade archetype is built around martial arts weapons and every take build that relies on martial weapons is heavily dependent on the base damage of the weapon and all of the crafting that you do with this weapon.
So if you are not lucky and it takes you quite a while to find a good weapon, this might be a bit of a downside until you find a good weapon.
Um but also again keep in mind this is solo self found. If you're playing trade league, it's much easier to get a good weapon early on.
Um so yeah, I don't think that's something we should worry too much about here. Also they have buffed the weapon progression in the campaign and early on especially in the game. So weapons will be much a more likely to have good prefixes for example. They got rid for example for um of the entire accuracy rating prefix during the campaign and leveling. So, I think the odds of finding a good weapon in the early progression of the game are quite high now in 0.5.
On the other hand though, they have also massively nerfed essence crafting. This is um a big downside for attack base builds because we are using weapons which uh uses multiple essences for crafting. And here you can see by the way uh the boss fight is not a normal T15 boss fight. Um unfortunately, I forgot to take out all of my uh Atlas tree nodes. So, here you can see for example, the boss will have more than 3 million HP. And this is because I have like plus three or plus four monster uh power. So, this this boss here for example is much stronger than the normal T15 boss in early mapping.
Um so, just keep that in mind, but you can see the damage still very good. Um so, yeah. Very solid league starter in my opinion.
Uh now we can take a look at my gear. So, here you can see I'm level 84. I have played a bit more and tested some things.
Uh but my total play time right now is 15 hours, but tier 15 maps like I mentioned is possible after 10 hours or so. Um I was practicing a bit of speed running in order to get it uh get as fast as possible to tier 15 maps.
And yeah, I can quickly go over my gear.
The most important one like I mentioned is the weapon. So, this one I was pretty lucky maybe because I found it quite early on. This is the Carnage Crest uh Crossbow which is available from level 59. And the good thing here is I have plus six level to projectile skills, which also will get nerfed a tiny bit in the upcoming patch. Um and and also it had a pretty decent uh lightning damage roll at tier three.
And then I also exalted it until I had uh ele- elemental damage with attacks.
>> [snorts] >> And yeah, that's just enough. Also some runes here.
Um uh I think the runes maybe this is one rune I uh had in my stash already.
I'm not sure about this one actually. So maybe it's a little bit um uh tiny bit more than solo self-found, but uh the rest of the gear and especially the weapon itself is all solo self-found.
So yeah, this is how the weapon looks.
Um then we also have uh helmet with resistances, amulet with some resistances, rings with resistances.
This is a pretty dope ring for uh early mapping. So again, not trade uh only solo self-found. I crafted this with uh essences and exalted orbs.
>> [snorts] >> Uh this other ring also has all elemental resistances, which is pretty good. And some lightning res.
>> [clears throat] >> Then some flat damage on the gloves.
Again, lightning res.
The belt looks like this. And also quite important in the early game. Um since we are playing with armor in the beginning.
So here we have this um suffix which says that some percentage, in this case 39% of armor also applies to elemental damage. I also have some of this on my gloves.
And this makes armor much better in early mapping. So you can see here we are focusing on armor. I have 48% uh physical damage reduction.
On average, this is not uh active all the time.
Uh but because of this uh suffix, I also have estimated elemental damage reduction with also 38%. So also quite a big amount of elemental damage gets reduced by my armor. This is pretty good in the early game because Dead Eye is not as tanky as it used to be and also we have some nerves to energy shield especially.
>> [snorts] >> So I'm not sure exactly how the defenses will look like to be honest, but for early mapping I can at least recommend going for armor with some elemental like armor applies to elemental damage reduction >> [snorts] >> and this should be enough for tier 15 maps. Here you can also see I'm quite over capped with my gear and this is quite impressive in my opinion since I did not trade items at all.
So yeah, I guess I was pretty lucky with this ring here for example.
But I have pretty good resistances on all of my gear basically.
So that should always be your goal finding gear with resistances. I think damage is less important than defense in the early mapping. For damage you just have to find a good weapon.
And I would focus on resistances on your rings and not too much on damage, but this ring of course has everything so it's pretty dope. But yeah, this is how my character sheet looks like around 2,000 life also some energy shield.
And the gems so I will also link the guide of course.
Um Here by the way you can see grenades did not receive any nerves or buffs.
So it's a pretty solid skill to start in the next patch. And the guide I was using so this is not my guide it's from guy that dies. He's special specialized specialized in speed running especially so he for example did leveling to maps in under 4 hours.
I think this is world record I'm not sure but pretty pretty good. I'm not I'm still far away from this time but uh I think with his guide I can really recommend his guide for leveling.
You will be able to reach maps in under 10 hours, under 8 hours, under 6 hours if you're very good um like if you're trying your best at speed running as well >> [snorts] >> and are good at the game, but yeah, um this is the guide I can recommend. Also in the late game I kind of did copy more or less everything. I did some uh small changes here and there. So, for example, here I'm playing with cool down recovery on my explosive grenade, so I can just spam it more often.
Um this is optional, I think, but um yeah.
I have mostly the same um gem support gems as in the guide.
>> [snorts] >> Also cluster grenade, so you basically use cluster grenade for clear. You just throw it and then everything explodes around around you. This is the clear for mapping.
And for bosses, uh what we do is we use all grenade.
So, here I can also quickly show you the rest of my skill gems quickly, but again, this is mainly based on the guide that I can link to you in the comments section.
Um but yeah, against bosses, you throw your all grenade followed by poison grenade and then cast your Sorry, this was wrong. Explosive grenade.
And basically, you cast all grenade only once. This will lower the resistances of the boss and make them exposed to elemental damage, and then you just rotate between gas grenade and the explosive grenade.
And mana can be a little bit tricky in early mapping, especially if you have plus six skills or something, but it's still manageable and grenades are dealing so much damage that you are killing the bosses very quickly as well.
Um so yeah, we also found for more mobility.
You can use the war banner for more damage against bosses.
Um yeah, and we also have flash grenade.
This is also good clear for maps because it detonates very quickly and also one shots packs uh entirely but just has less AoE as cluster grenade.
Um yeah, but this is more or less the build. Also the skill tree. So here um I'm playing with dead eye, point blank, endless munitions and gathering winds for tailwind. But the idea is actually that we can also transition into Pathfinder at some point and this is what also makes this build very flexible because we also have some pretty interesting uniques uh in 0.5.
For example, the one that um deals physical and chaos damage and also is based on the amount of um curses that you apply to enemies, if I remember correctly. So we have pretty juicy new uniques and the thing is with Pathfinder, so once we get our fourth ascension, we can also decide to swap back to Pathfinder.
Um and then we are pretty flexible because then we can entirely uh select wherever we want to start in the tree. We can also with with Pathfinder, we can also start with the spell uh spell class position here, caster position.
And yeah, still remain pretty flexible in the end game because grenades is just for early mapping, but later on I also want to play something different. Um but yeah, again, the tree is pretty much the same as in the guide. I did some minor changes here and there. For example, I don't need this fire penetration of fire resistance and more flammability magnitude. Instead, I decided to go for elemental resistance because we're also dealing a lot of um uh lightning damage.
And also I like to take these notes here, for example.
Um but yeah, the tree is more or less the same as in the guide.
>> [snorts] >> And yeah, I think this combination of a safe early league starter with grenades, which was were not nerfed at all, still a very powerful.
Um also this build, like again, is very SSF uh friendly. You don't need to trade, you just need to find a good weapon. Um you could trade a good weapon, but it's also possible to craft it uh yourself. I can also make a guide when uh the new league is released in a few days, about crafting and crossbow crafting especially.
And again, with the Pathfinder, so with the Ranger class, and with Pathfinder, later on we are very flexible to go into the caster direction if the new uniques are very good and worth playing. So, yeah, that's my league start for 0.5.

This time I also aim to um yeah, get through the campaign as quick as possible.
So, a little bit of racing. I will not reach very good timings, I know that so uh from my practicing so far, but I will try to reach tier 15 maps in about 10 hours.
