>> Today we're going to compare more, fewer, and the same. And here's a secret, Nova. Comparing is a little bit like adding and taking away.
>> Oh, I can't wait. Let's go.
Nova, how do we find out who has more?
>> We count them.
>> Exactly. We count each one. The bigger number is more. And the extra shows us adding and taking away. Let's try it.
Doduo and Dodrio look almost the same.
So, let's count. Doduo. One, two.
Dodrio. One, two, three. Dodrio has more. One more head. Yes. 2 + 1 makes three. And 3 take away two leaves one.
One more.
Count the heads. Nova. Diglett has one.
Doug. Trio.
>> One. Two. Three. Diglett has fewer. Two fewer, >> right? 1 + 2 makes three. And 3 take away one leaves two. Two fewer.
Vulpix has six tails. Nine tails has nine. Who has more? And how many more?
>> Nine tails. 6 7 8 9 Three more.
>> Yes. 6 + 3 is 9 and 9 take away 6 is 3.
Three more tails.
Duct trio has three heads. Dot trio has three. Count them. Same or different?
>> 1 2 3. The same. Nobody has more?
>> The same. 3 take away 3 is zero. Zero difference.
So, Nova, what are our three comparing words?
>> More, fewer, and the same.
>> Perfect. And it works for anything you can count. More cookies, fewer toys, the same crayons.
And here's the coolest part, Nova. The extra how many more is what you add to catch up or take away to match. Wa! So comparing is like adding and taking away.
>> They're all best friends.
Now it's your turn at home. Count along with Nova. Tell us who has more, fewer, or the same, and how many more.
>> I'll try two. Let's go.
>> Doduo has two heads. Duct trio has three. They look close. Count carefully.
Which has more and how many more?
>> I counted. Doug trio has more. One more head.
>> That's right, Nova. 2 + 1 is three and 3 take away two is one. Great counting.
Magnemite has one magnet. Magneton has three. Which has more? And how many more? Count up.
Magneton has more. Two more. Yes. 1 + 2 is three. And 3 take away 1 is two.
You've got it.
Dodrio has three heads. Magneton has three magnets. Count them both. Are they the same or different?
They're the same. Both three.
>> The same. 3 take away three is zero. No extra. They match.
Pikachu has one tail. Vulpix has six.
Which has fewer? And how many fewer?
Count up from one.
Pikachu has fewer. Five fewer. Right. 1 + 5 is 6 and 6 take away 1 is five.
Vulpix has lots more tails.
Vulpix has six tails. Execute has six eggs. Different things, but count them.
Same number or different?
The same. Both six. Yes. 6 takeway 6 is zero. Same number, different things.
Last one. Vulpix has six tails. Nine tails has nine. Which has more? And how many more? Count up from six.
>> Nine tails has three more.
>> Perfect. 6 + 3 is 9. And 9 takeway 6 is 3. You're a comparing champion, Nova.
And so are you at home.
We did it. Now we can compare more, fewer, and the same.
>> And we found how many more by adding and taking away.
>> Wonderful work today.
You're a comparing star.
>> Amazing. Counting, comparing, adding, and taking away today.
