Boston weather forecast: Severe storm threat moves in this afternoon

[00:00:00]Everyone, welcome in. First things first, let's go over what we're going to chat about over the next few minutes.

[00:00:05]Leading our headlines today is that storm threat. It's a first alert day.

[00:00:09]That's why everything's lit up in red.

[00:00:10]We've got the Sox forecast, too. It's a big game for them. Could they tie that franchise record, 15 wins in a row?

[00:00:16]We'll have to see if the game gets going. Possibly some rain delays.

[00:00:20]Temperatures are up and down, so I'll show you those numbers coming up. First, we're talking about today, 80°. Could be zapped by some thunderstorms, especially as you head west to Boston. That will be the best bet. It's a warm front moving across. So, look what it does to our temperatures tomorrow. We're up to 85°.

[00:00:37]So, here's how it goes. Rain chances 6:00, 7:00, 8:00. Pretty much a 6-hour window from 6:00 to midnight. That's when we're going to be in the thick of this risk of seeing downpours and thunderstorms, too. But, of course, right in the middle of that, we got the Sox game going on. Storm threat looks like this. There's the numbers. Well, the legend we have at the top, it goes up to level five. We've got a level one threat from Worcester back toward the Berkshires. Level two, that's in yellow for western Connecticut. And a level three, that will be for Pennsylvania and New York. So, not that we need to worry about that. Futurecast times in the top left, we've got these showers and storms already working across the western side of New England. That rain slings into Boston.

[00:01:20]Look at that, 7:00, around first pitch at Fenway, into southern New Hampshire and Vermont. And you see these darker colors here? Those are bigger pulses of rain. But, check out what happens around midnight. This could be the more robust band of rain moving through for the South Shore, southeastern Mass, Cape Cod and the islands. So, that's going to bolster rainfall amounts there. I'll show you that in one sec. Then, about 6:00, 7:00 tomorrow, this is now a cold front sliding across. And that could trigger some storms. But, really, most of Wednesday's going to be dry. All said and done, close to half an inch in Boston. But, remember I I showing you those bigger downpours toward Cape Cod and the islands. We could scoop out the two, possibly three inches of rain. That much rain that fast could give us some flooding. And it's not just the rain that we're dealing with. The winds are really whipping up, too. So, I've stopped this about 6:00 and we've got gusts on Cape Cod close to 40 mph. Some spots about 20 to 30. So, that's a wind that's going to shake you around. So, not just the rain at Fenway, but the winds are going to be part of this story, too. And those winds are transporting some wildfire smoke we had hanging around DC the other day, now pushing it into our area. So, air quality will go down for us. That's a yellow. That's a moderate range for Boston. Green means go for southeastern Mass, Cape Cod and the islands. So, those with asthma, the young and the old will really notice that air quality going down. First alert today, it's a warm front sliding across that will pop us up to 85. Then tomorrow, it's a cold front that's going to cut across. So, check out what it does to our temperatures by Thursday, 77, then we've got a couple of sea breezes coming and going. So, really temperatures over the next several days will be around the 80s, but the weekend is looking picture perfect, sun, cloud, and low 80s.
