These shortcuts are merely basic algebraic identities rebranded as magic for a testing system that rewards mechanical speed over genuine mathematical depth. It is a pragmatic survival kit for exam-takers, but intellectually it remains a superficial exercise.

Multiplication Tricks 🔥 | Solve Faster Than Calculator ⚡ | Speed Math Series Class 3 | SSC CGL 2026Added:
Hello everyone. If you're targeting SSC or railway exam next and your calculation speed is not that good and you are facing always problem in multiplication, then this class can save you a lot of seconds of your time in your examination. Because in this class I'm going to teach you methods of multiplication in very three unique ways and I'm guaranteeing you you have never seen this base methodology ever. Now, if you are coming to this channel for the first time, then this is my speed math calculation series in which I'm taking the third class as multiplication series and the motto of the series is very clear. After completing this series, whichever examination in India you are going to appear, you will not face any sort of calculation issue. That is my 100% guarantee and you are going to solve questions 3x quicker than your current speed. Let's start with this class. So, the first thing is how to multiply two-digit number. In this class I will teach you two-digit, three-digit, four-digit multiplication also through these tricks only. So, learn each and everything properly. The first question is 38 * 42. So, in the first case, I'll help you understand this with cross multiplication and split method, okay? Then, I will teach you base methodology and whatever you learn here based on that, you can figure out whichever methodology you want to go for, okay?
So, first thing is cross multiplication.
So, cross multiplication has three steps only. In the first step, if a number is written like this, 38 * 42. The first step is multiply these two.
8 * 2 = 16. So, whenever you are multiplying this in the first step, you write the unit digit or last digit over here, six, and you take out the carry, okay? Now, in step two, what will happen? When you are multiplying two numbers, you will cross multiply these two and add both. Like 3 * 2 plus 4 * 8 plus this carry one. Now, whatever I'm getting, so 3 * 2 = 6 plus 4 * 8 = 32 plus one, that is equal to 39. Out of 39, I will keep nine over here.
Okay?
In step three, what will happen? So, 38 and 42 is here. I'll multiply these two.
Here, three is already a carry, okay?
So, 3 * 4 = 12.
I will keep two and I will add one. No, in the last step you won't keep anything. Whatever you are getting, you are adding it with the carry. Clear? So, that is equal to 15.
So, if I sum up the whole thing, it will be written like this. 38 * 42 is equal to six here, nine from here and 15 from here. Now, you can use the same methodology whatever you have learned from your school and try to implement over here and you will see, yes, you are getting the same thing over here. Clear? Next, split method. In split method out of these two questions out of these two numbers, you have to split one number into two parts so that you can multiply it easily. Now, see.
It is 42. I can write this as 38 * by 40 + 2. That will be easy for me to calculate. What I will do? I'll do 38 * 40 + 38 * 2. Anything multiplied by zero get us zero. Then, 4 * 8 = 32, three out there. 4 * 3 = 12 + 3 = 15. 38 * 2 = 76.
So, 1520 + 76 is equal to what? 1596.
You can do it this way.
So, if you are good with your calculation speed, you can always go for this. That will be more easier. If you are not that good try between cross multiplication and the base methodology that I'm going to teach you next, okay?
So, what is base methodology that you have never ever seen this?
Base methodology says if you are multiplying two numbers, first try to make a base, try to find a base which is closer to both of this and which comes in between. Now, say I take my base is equal to 40 over here.
Okay? So, if I take base is 40 how much 38 is less than 40? So, -2.
If I take out -2 out of 38, I will get this.
How much 42 is greater than 40? So, +2.
First thing, it is clear. Now, whenever I'm writing this, first thing is I will multiply these two. What I will do? I'll multiply these two. 2 * 2 = 4.
But so here minus into plus will get me minus four. This is the most important part for all of you. Now, what does this mean? Remember this, minus multiplied by minus will get me plus, minus multiplied by plus will get me minus, plus multiplied by minus will get me minus, plus multiplied by plus will get me plus. How to remember this short tricks?
If both the signs are equal, then they will get me plus. If both the signs are not equal, they will get me minus, okay?
Now, base is here.
You will multiply the base with what?
So, I will multiply the base with adding these two number or adding these two number. Whatever I do, I will get the same value. See, 38 + 2 is equal to 40. 42 minus 2 is equal to 40. So, I'll multiply 40 here.
Clear? So, when I multiply 40 here, what I will get? So, I will get 1600. Now, so I got 1600. What is the next step to do it? Now, see. Remember this step clearly. First step was what? Finding the base, okay? Second was finding the difference. Third step was multiplying the difference and fourth step was multiplying base with the cross value.
This, 42 minus 2, 38 plus 2. Fifth step, that is our last step. See, when I'm writing all these steps, it may seem that it is very long. What to do? What not to do?
But if you try to understand it in a shorter way or in a simpler way, this is actually not that difficult. You can actually understand it properly. Just let me tell it, okay? And if you practice few questions, it will be easier for you, okay? Now, on the fifth step, whatever you have got here and whatever you have got here, you just simply add both. Add both. So, 1600 minus four, that is equal to 1596.
Now, check.
Did we got the 1586? Yes. So, we got 1586 previously. Through base method also we got 1596. Now, we'll apply this concept in few questions and we'll understand this better. Now, see. 97 * 103. What I told you? First and foremost thing is to find out the base. So, what is the base? 100 is the base. Then what?
So, 100 minus 97 is equal to minus three. 103 minus 100, that is equal to plus 03. Clear? Now, see. 97 + 3 is equal to 100. 103 minus 3 is equal to 100. So, I'll write 100 over here. Plus minus minus, 3 * 3 = 9. So, 100 * 200 is equal to 10,000. Yes or no?
Minus 09, that is equal to 9,991.
Clear?
Sorted. Now, if I wanted to do this in cross multiplication method, I would multiply first these two. 7 * 3 = 21, two carry. 10 * 7 = 70. 9 * 3 = 27. 97 + 2 = 99. Nine carry. 10 * 9 = 90 + 9 = 99. If I wanted to do this in split methodology, I would have done 97 * 100 + 3. So, 97 * 100 is equal to 9700. 97 + 3 can be written as 90 * 3 = 270. 7 * 3 = 291. So, 9700 + 291 is equal to 9991.
Anyway, I can solve it. Whichever way I find it easier, I can solve it. Now, what happens when the speed in split methodology, if the number comes difficult you will be multiplying two more steps. So, this is not advisable in terms of your examination.
You should go for cross multiplication or base methodology, whichever you find comfortable. Now, let's solve few more question.
So, this is the last two-digit question I'm solving, then we'll move to three-digit and four-digit methodology.
Now, 29 * 34 is given.
How to solve that? So, 29 * 34. So, here I take base is equal to 30.
Now, what I will do? So, if base is 30, here difference will be minus one. Here difference will be plus four. Yes or no?
Yes. So, 34 minus one is equal to 33. 29 + 4 is equal to 33. So, multiplication will be 33. Right? 4 * 1 minus four. So, 30 * 33 will be what? 990 minus 04, that is equal to 986.
Clear? Got the answer.
So, we are actually not doing a lot of hard thing. It is actually easier. Now, see. Let's apply the same thing in three-digit numbers.
Here a three-digit number is 989 * 993.
So, what to do?
So, 989 993. Now, someone will say, "So, can I take 990 as the base?" See, the purpose of finding the basis to calculate this quicker. So, if I take 1,000 as the base, it will be much easier to do the calculation because only I have to put three digit three zero behind that number, okay? Now, see.
1,000 - 989 is equal to -11.
1,000 - 93 is equal to -7. Minus minus will get me plus. 7 into 11 is equal to 77. 993 plus 11 Sorry, minus 11 is equal to 982.
989 minus 07 is equal to 982. So, 982 into 1,000 is equal to what? 982 000 plus 77. So, this value will get me 982077.
Now, I'm giving you a dare. You just open your calculator and see 989 multiplied by 993. How much you are getting? 982077.
Now, you want to see or realize this magic again?
See.
1018 multiplied by 993. See, 1018 multiplied by 993. What I will do? Find the base. First base is 1,000. Then, I will take the difference. Here, it will be plus 18. Here, it will be 1,000 minus 993 is equal to minus 7. Now, see. When I am doing this, first thing is what?
Sir, 1018 minus 07 that is equal to 1011. If I add this both also, I'll get the same thing.
Second, here 18 sevens are Sir, 100 and 26. Clear? Sir, what is this value? 1011 000 minus 126.
If we solve this, we are getting the value. Now, if I solve this, what I will get? Sir, 101 as it is zero over here. Sir, this will be 874 because Sorry, 874. 874 plus 126 is equal to 1,000. So, that will get me the same value. Now, I want all of you to take out your calculator and see this thing. And you will be surprised. Yeah, we are able to solve these things quicker.
Got it? So, this way you can solve four-digit number as well. How to do that? Now, understand.
9992 9983 Sir, base is equal to 10,000.
No problem at all. Difference Sir, minus 8. Difference Sir, minus 17. Sir, [snorts] if I add both 9983 or 9992 minus 17, I will always get how much?
Sir, 9978.
Sorry, 75. My bad.
I'll get this. So, here how much I'll get? 17 8 that is equal to my plus 126 because minus minus plus. You need to remember this much, okay? Now, if I add both 9975 after that 0 0 0 0 plus 126. How much I'll get? 9975 0126.
Now, do this calculation over calculator and also at the same time think of it that if you do not understand or if you do not remember this step, what will happen? Sorry, this is 136. This is 136, okay? So, this will be 136. So, if you remember this step, how how it will going to help you and how much time it will going to save you in your examination, okay? So, I am giving you this as a homework. You have to solve it and comment in this video how did you solve it and what you have learned from this video. And once you complete this video, join my Telegram channel SSC Monk because the class PDF once this class because once this class is done, after the class is completed, I will be giving you one practice set where whatever you have learned, you have to apply it over 50 questions and get better. So, see you in tomorrow's class.
