This video explains that individuals with ADHD often struggle with an overwhelming sense of having multiple tasks to complete simultaneously, leading to guilt and exhaustion when they cannot finish everything. The speaker shares their personal journey of learning to practice self-compassion by accepting that some rooms can remain messy, recognizing that their unfinished tasks are not due to laziness but rather their neurodivergent brain functioning. The key insight is that being kind to oneself involves acknowledging personal limitations and reframing perceived failures as natural consequences of one's unique cognitive style.

This Is Why I Let One Room Stay Messy NowAjouté :
If you've got a brain like mine, you have an endless list of things that you want to do and you want them all done at the same time. You have a hundred unfinished things that you have to do and you start them because of random things. Today I started cleaning because I had to go to the bathroom. Make that make sense. Mind you, I also filmed all of this and cleaned all of this up before I actually ever went to the bathroom. I used to feel like I wasn't allowed to take a break until everything was done and then I would pass out on the couch because I was so over exhausted that I physically couldn't do anything else. And would still feel guilty cuz there's always more to do.
Now, being kind to myself is allowing one room to stay messy at all times. If my kitchen is clean, it's because my bathroom is a disaster. But that's okay cuz I am only one person and I now tell myself the things that are out on the counter are because I love and use them, not because I'm lazy or messy.
