Ruminant animals like cows and kangaroos have a unique digestive system where they chew their food twice (called 'chewing the cud') to properly break down tough plant material like grass. Additionally, many animals form symbiotic relationships where different species benefit from living together, such as clownfish and sea anemones, which protect each other and provide shelter in exchange for safety and food scraps.

Cool Animal Secret! Cow's Second Stomach! | Zoboomafoo - WildBrain | Learn about Animals!Added:
up a little bit, Martin. Yeah. If we keep going at this rate, we might actually make it to Animal Junction this way. [laughter] All we have to do is get over that herd of water buffalo down below. Oh, yeah.
Look at them all. Wa! What a herd of boines.
There's the junction. Whoa! Whoa! Coming in.
>> Look out below.
>> A great landing.
I wonder if the lemur has landed. Let's call him >> Zabu.
Zabu Zabu, you made it.
Hey, Zabu, did you check out her landing?
You know Zabu, he won't start yaking till he's done some snacking.
Look what I have for you. Zabu sumac leaves.
All right. Leaves. That's what lemurs like Zabu eat most of the time.
Give me >> Hey guys, did you see how I ate my yummy sumac leaves?
>> That was [laughter] >> like the creature I saw on my way here.
Who could it be?
>> Who could it be? This animal who I did see. Can you help me guess mystery?
>> When I saw her, she was eating grass and she was chewing and chewing and mooing and mooing.
>> Who could it be?
I did see animal.
When she stood up, she had a pink balloon on her belly.
>> Who could it be? This animal who I did see. Can you help me guess this mystery?
>> A pink belly blueer and chewer. Do you know who she is?
>> All right. She chews and chews and chews. She moves and moves and moves. I know who the mystery animal is. Do you?
A calf and a mother cow?
Oh, among the mystery animals are here.
Yeah. Come on in.
Yeah. Come in. Come in.
>> Hey cow. Hey baby cow. How you doing? A baby cow is called a calf zabu.
A mother is called a cow and a father is called a bull.
All cows belong to a group of animals called boines. And like other boines, cows stick together in groups or herds.
It's so fun being boine.
>> You got it, buddy.
>> Thanks.
>> This cow is a great mother. Look how carefully she takes care of her calf.
And you can tell she's never very far away and is always watching out for her calf. Right. Right. She's a good mom.
>> Check out the way a cow cleans her calf with a lot of licks.
>> I don't think there's anything quite as slimy as a cow bath.
>> Slimy baths are the best.
>> Hey, my mind has a question. So, where's your herd? I thought you said bovines lived in a herd, Chris.
>> They usually do, Zab. Cows are really social animals that live in groups, so their herd must be around here somewhere.
>> Well, we'll find your herd. Yeah.
>> We're going to find the herd.
>> It's herd finding time.
I think the cat likes that idea.
>> I think you're on to something.
And I think the mom's looking for the herd, too.
Hey, brothers. How do you find a herd anyway? Hey, I know. Maybe they need a snack before they meet up with the herd.
Yeah. Oh, you already found a snack.
Hey, let me try some of that.
I think I'll stick the sumac. Cows eat grass, which is really hard to digest, so they chew it twice. It's called chewing your cut. The cow chews up the grass and swallows it. It goes into the stomach where it starts to digest, but then the cow coughs it back up, chews it again before swallowing it for the last time.
Listen to those chew and cut sounds.
And if you're really quiet, you'll hear the swallow.
How's that? Oh, just came up again. And there she goes, chewing some more cod.
>> Whoa, that's a lot of chewing.
Hey, I'll call you Chewy. Yeah, Chewy.
What's she doing?
>> Sucking on my fingers. Cavs will suck on just about anything. Why does she do that?
>> Well, a calf likes to check things out by putting them in her mouth, just like a human baby.
Hey, hey, hey. What's going on?
>> She's hungry. Zombie.
How? She's sucking on you.
>> Wait, wait, [laughter] wait. There's some serious glitter going on in here, brothers. [laughter] Calves don't eat lemurs.
>> No, don't worry. She won't eat you.
Calves have incredible sucking power, but they don't eat lemurs.
>> This is fun, but I'm stuck.
>> Here, I'll help you out, Sabu. Ready?
>> Here, let me grab your legs. Gently.
>> Count with me on the count of three. 1 2 [laughter] >> We meant to do that.
>> But I'm all covered in goo. Hey, that's it. I'll call you Gooey.
But now I think we got to get some food into her hungry tummy before we get her back to herd.
To the snack machine.
Let's see. Chick and kangaroo and Martin and me and Chris and Cal and horse.
There's no calf.
Chris Martin. Well, there's no food in the snack machine for Gooey. There's nothing in the snack machine, Zabu, because Gooie's mom is here. She has lots of milk to feed Gooey. Cows drink cow's milk and so do we. We drink it out of a glass and we put it on our cereal.
>> Come here, Zabu. See this? This is an udder. It's where all the milk is made.
>> Yep. This is the cow's incredible milk making machine.
>> An udder. It's utterly mangika.
That's noisy milk. Can I try some?
>> Open up.
>> Hey. Who? Hubba. Hubba. That's a drink from another.
>> Can I try milking Chewy?
>> Yeah. Go ahead, Sabu.
>> Oh, Chewy won't mind.
>> Oh, no. Gooey does it all the time. She drinks about five or six times a day.
>> Wow.
>> Go right ahead.
>> Okay, move over.
Well, this isn't hard.
Hey, stop it. Stop it. Stop. Stop. Stop.
Stop. No. No. This is very slippery.
It's very getting more milk on me than I'm getting in the bucket.
>> Nice try, Savu. But now, let's watch a real pro.
>> Oh, so that's how Gooey eats.
>> Did you see that? She hits her head on the udder to make the milk flow better.
I can't believe my mind. Let me see.
Wow, Gooy's a real super sucker. Look at her go.
I'm going to do like gooey. A mouth is a better milker.
That was utterly delicious. I think I'm so full like I feel different, not the same. This kind of feeling I can't explain. There's only one thing that I can do. I feel cowish. How about you? Cowish.
Uh-huh. I feel cowish.
Cowish.
I'm a big mouth and I'm glad to be a cow.
Cowish.
Now that Gooy's had lots of milk, we have to find Chewy and Gooy's herd.
>> You're right, Sab.
I don't see a herd anywhere. Huh? How are we going to get Chewy and Gooey back to the herd?
>> My mind just had an idea. Chewy has a bell. And if the herd heard it, maybe they come and get them. Heard. Heard. I like that. We're going to ring the bell.
>> Great idea, Zabu. But how WILL THE HERD HEAR THAT LITTLE BELL?
>> We just have to make the bell ring louder. That's all. We have to make the bell ring so loud that all the other cows hear it.
>> Good thinking, Zab. Let's make that cowbell ring loud with an Animal Junction super cowbell amplification system. Let's build it.
One super machine coming up. Woohoo!
Woohoo!
This reminds me of one time in Sawoo Land. I was leaping along. Leap, leap, leap, leap. When I bumped into, oof.
Well, I didn't know who I bumped into until she pulled her head out of the ground. It was Wiggy Waxwing slurping up root noodles. Hi, Wiggy. I said, "I saw Boo. One more root noodles.
Another one.
More. More." Wiggy was wigging out all over, gobbling up root noodles.
Go, Wiggy. Until she found a root noodle that wasn't a root noodle at all. It was Baby Zubumafouafosaurus. [screaming] WIGGY.
>> WIGGY WAS SO full of root noodles that all she wanted to do was slide down Baby Zubumafuaurus over and over.
>> So, we slid down Baby Zubumaf Fuosaurus all day. [screaming] The end. [laughter] >> Where did I put that little wrench?
>> Here's another tool for the cowbell super amplification system.
>> Pass it here.
>> Coming at you. [screaming] >> Did you catch it, Martin?
>> Hey, I caught [laughter] it right here.
Here you go, Chris.
>> Yeah, don't worry. We'll find your herd.
Yeah.
Finish.
>> This is it. Want to see how it works?
Let's count to three and say zabumafu.
>> Okay.
>> You want to? All right.
>> 1 2 3.
>> Zaboomafu.
>> A. It didn't work.
>> I'm sure we put it together right.
>> You think maybe this could be the problem?
>> Hey, you did it, Sabu. I don't know what you brothers would do without me.
>> Neither do we, Zah. Neither do we.
>> So, should we try it again? Hey, who hubba hubba? Let's count to three.
>> 1 2 3.
>> Well, that definitely worked. I think everybody heard that one.
>> All we need now is the bell to call the herd to come and get them. Okay, Chewy, we have to go over to the machine. Okay.
Yeah, just just um get yourself up and then we're we're um Chris Martin. Chewy doesn't want to move.
>> Well, if the cow won't come to the machine, bring the machine to the cow.
We're ready to ring the cowbell.
>> All right. Is it all settler?
>> All ready. Here it goes.
>> [music] >> Let's see if it worked.
Did you hear that? Did you see that?
They're here. The herd. It worked.
>> Your herd is here. Your herd heard the bell and now they're here. Uhhuh.
Yeah. You're free to go home. So long.
Reservoir. Our feeder staying.
See you later. Doc.
>> Incoming. up. Hit the dirt.
>> Nice landing.
>> A great horned owl.
>> Don't you turn my mouth?
>> Thanks, Chris.
>> No problem, son.
>> Hi there. I think I'll call you Blink now. How's that? Do you like that? Yeah, I thought you would. And so will the animal helpers.
>> Let's see what they're up to.
>> Hi guys. Hi Zaboo. Amy here with my friend Lara. We're searching for creatures with her father.
>> Stop the car.
>> Look over there. A herd of bison. And they have some babies. Bison are related [music] to cows, but they're wild animals. And like all wild creatures, you have to give them their space.
Especially when there are babies around.
Hey Lara, check out those two big ones.
They're powerful. Sometimes the best way to be a creature adventurer is to be one in the car. That way [music] you and the creature are safe.
>> It's so fine being boine.
>> Yeah. And I know another place to find some more fine boines. Just what I was thinking, bro.
>> So then I guess you're probably going to the closet.
>> You guessed right. To the closet.
>> They're going to the closet. [music] They're going on a trip. They're going to the closet to grab their stuff and split.
>> All right, it's now or never. Do it, BROTHER.
[screaming] >> You can always count on the closet to do what the closet does best. Bike helmets.
Got them.
>> They're going on a cool adventure and they don't know what's in store. They're coming from the closet and they're headed out the door. See you later, Zabu.
>> Bye, brothers.
>> We're here in Pur, India. And in India, there are lots of people.
>> Around here, where there are people, there are cows. Cows everywhere.
Cows in the fields. Cows in people's yards.
Cows in people's houses.
>> Cows in the middle of the road.
[screaming] Cows doing whatever they want. We've got to check this out.
>> Cows come and go in and out of the house whenever they please, just like dogs or cats at your house. And if you're a calf, one of the good things about being in and around the house at night is that it protects you from tigers and leopards. Is this your buddy?
In India, cows are definitely buddies.
They're a huge part of the Indian way of life.
And believe it or not, cows keep people warm. And I'm not just talking about hugging. That's right. Cow poop is made into patties and then dried and used as a fuel for fires. That helps keep people warm and they can cook with it.
>> Band and B are going to show us another great way to use cow poop. COME ON IN.
>> [laughter] >> WOW, THIS IS GREAT IN HERE.
>> SEE, every day they polish their floors with cow poop polish that helps keep things looking clean and dustfree. It starts out wet, but then over here you can see where it's dried.
>> Nice. This is a nice place. I like your house.
>> And when the cows come out of the house in the morning, they head straight for the hay. Time to milk the cows. Then [music] it's off to the fields.
Out to the fields, guys. Cows spend most of the middle of their day grazing, filling up their bellies with grass. And while they do that, it's time for us to get back to Animal Junction. Hey, do you guys know how we can get back? Our bikes are broken.
That way. All right.
All right. Let's go. Let's see if we can find some other way back.
Hey, everybody's going that way.
Hey, where are you going? Everybody's going that way. No, that way. The whole herd's moving that way. Huh? Maybe we should just follow her.
Follow her. What's my brother talking about? Follow her to where?
>> That's it. Of course.
>> Well, it's not as fast as mountain biking, but these cows are a lot more dependable.
>> [laughter] >> See you later. It was great hanging out with you.
>> Hey, thanks for letting us ride with your cows.
>> That was so great. It's so fun being boine.
Who knows what's going to happen next?
>> It's very quiet in there. I wonder what Zaba's doing. Let's go find out.
Hey, look who's here. It's Big Red, the red kangaroo. How you doing, buddy? All right. Whoa.
Hey, where's Zabu? Oh, yeah. Where is he? Zabu. Zabu. Zabumathu.
Zabu, where are you, buddy?
Where is that leaping lemur?
>> This isn't too bad. It's kind of comfy.
Like just get my wiggle.
>> I wonder what's wiggling around in there.
>> Well, the best way to find out is to tickle it.
Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. I I can't think anymore. Stop tickling. Stop.
>> What are you doing in there, Z?
>> Well, I'm being a baby kangaroo. Well, they live in their mom's pouches until they're old enough to go out on their own. And since Big Red is a boy kangaroo, well, I had to find my own pouch to climb into cuz boy kangaroos don't have a pouch. Well, just mom kangaroos have pouches cuz just mom kangaroos [music] have babies. And while I was inside, I started thinking about one time in Sabu Land. I was leaping along. Leap leap leap when I bumped into Narie. Oh, hi Nie.
>> Oh, hi Nogrill. Where are you going?
>> I'm heading home. Move over. I'm heading home.
>> Oh, hey. Can I come over? I've never even seen your home. Uh, no. No, no, can't do.
>> Why not? Uh- because >> why not?
>> Because >> But why not?
>> Well, because my house is just too messy. Okay. Huh?
>> Oh, so why doesn't Nie clean it?
>> WELL, MY NOSE DOES HAVE A VACUUM FEATURE.
>> OKAY, but I'm telling you, there's a lot of dirt down there. I don't know. You >> give it a try, Nie.
>> All right, stand aside. Coming through.
>> All right. [clears throat] And now, careful with the fragile.
>> Great job, Nar. Well, now you can both come in. Yeah. Here I go. Come on down.
>> Here goes. Watch out. Oh, >> wow. This is a great underground house.
>> Thanks a lot. Come on. Let's uh race around my tunnel.
>> The end. [laughter] >> So, uh, did you like that story? Well, I got lots more if you want to hear them.
>> Hey, Zabu.
>> Maybe he's hungry.
>> Oh, yeah. Oh, sorry about that. Let's go get a snack.
>> Let's see what the snack machine has for a kangaroo. Yeah.
>> Oh boy.
>> Uhoh. Again.
>> Oh, don't worry, Big Red. I'll get this machine fixed. Here goes.
Where is that drill?
I had it in my pouch.
>> What for, Zab?
>> Oh, well, you never know when you might need a drill.
Okay, Big Red. I'll have this snack machine fixed before you can uh well, before you can leap across Animal Junction. Take your mark, Big Red. Get ready. Get set.
>> Big Red's ready. Zaboo's set.
>> Yeah, that's good.
>> How about here? Yeah.
>> Big Red's finished. So, zombie. Uh-oh.
>> I fixed it.
>> Kangaroos are like the cows of Australia. They roam around grazing on all kinds of vegetation.
Kangaroos aren't boines, but they do some of the same things cows do, like hang out in big groups. But these groups aren't herds. They're called mobs.
Talking about cows, a kangaroo regurgitates his food, too. He throws it up so he can chew it again. Yeah. Cows and kangaroos eat and digest grass in the same way. They eat it, spit it up, and eat it again. Wow. So, they're double chewers.
>> That's right, Sab. They're double chewers. And you know what else?
>> What?
>> They can go for months without drinking water. They just get it from the food they eat. Check this out. Look at how the kangaroo holds on to the piece of celery while he's eating it. He uses his four legs almost like hands.
Watch the way he grabs this.
>> I use my hands to eat, too.
I guess he's full.
Hey brothers, I was a monkey and see a baby kangaroo, wasn't I?
>> The best, Abu. Except maybe for a real baby kangaroo. What do you think, Big Grant?
>> I guess it's a lot easier being a baby kangaroo if you really are a baby kangaroo. But I was pretty good at pretending. And I bet you are, too.
[laughter] Everybody likes to jump like a kangaroo.
>> This animal is a friend of mine. From the tip of his nose [music] to his finally behind. All the friends that we met today are special in their own way.
We've all got different names, but we're really all the [music] same. Thanks for dropping by. We're glad you came.
These [music] animals are friends of mine. They jump and swim, crawl, fly, and climb. One more thing we [music] have to say. [singing] Go make an animal friend today.
Hey, wait for me, Big Red. We're both leapers, so we're going to leap off home together. Bye.
>> See you later, Zabu. Let's all keep on leaping.
>> We'll see you later. Bye.
>> Hi, my name is Jar and this is my red planter.
Amazing.
What a great day. Something's in the air. Listen. Do you hear all those creatures singing?
[screaming] Creature songs.
Everybody's singing today.
[screaming] >> Even Martin and her.
>> Another great singer. A chipmunk.
>> The creature world is full of great singers.
>> Looms they call across the lake.
There's lots to sing about and every creature has a different reason for singing. And there are lots of great singers around except one's missing.
>> Zabu.
>> Zabu. Zabu. Mafu.
>> Zabu.
>> Zabu. He's here. Hey, Zabu. Feel like singing today? How about other singers?
You see anybody out there?
Actually, Zabu, can you sing? Zabu, you know Zabu, he doesn't talk until he's had his snack.
Come on, Zabu. We have apples today.
Here you go, buddy.
Yeah, Zabu loves apples.
>> Excuse me.
>> Hey. Hi everybody. It's great to see you today.
>> That was some burp. Savu, what'd you think of that? Yeah, I burp when I'm vooki brothers. Look, manga the singing. I love the singing.
So did the creature I saw. Who could it be? Who could it be? This animal who I did see. Can you help me guess my >> He had bird feet. Bird feet with claws, a bird body, and bird wings.
Who could it be? This animal [music] who I did see.
>> He flew up on a branch and sat there just like me.
>> Who could it be? This [music] animal who I did see. Can you help me guess this mystery? [music] >> He's a bird who likes to sit on my head.
Do you know who he is?
>> All right. So, what do you think, Chris?
Do you think you know who he is?
>> Well, it's got to be a bird.
>> Definitely.
>> Of course, because he's covered with feathers. Likes to sing.
>> Brown and white.
>> Chris >> stripes on his feathers.
>> Do you know what kind of bird it is?
>> Grat brothers.
>> Wow. Aabra.
MONGAT. MYSTERY ANIMALS HERE.
A CUCUR IS A great singer. Look at that strong, powerful beak. Yeah, that's a sure sign that a cucur is a predatory bird. Cucurs eat mice, [music] insects, fish, lizards, and other birds.
>> Wait a second. They don't eat lemurs, do they?
>> No, they just sit on lemurs heads.
>> E, >> look at the cucur's nails. They're long and pointed, perfect for hanging on to branches. Check out these blue feathers on his wings. Yeah, a cucar has spots on his wing that are the color of the sky.
>> What mangika feathers?
>> How about this? You want to see something really neat? Watch how when I move my arm, the cucur's body moves, but his head stays perfectly still.
I can't believe my mind.
Hey, I want to hear what the cuckub sounds like, but he's not singing now.
How come?
>> I don't know. That's a good question, Zabu.
>> I wish he would sing.
>> Yeah, we might have to wait till sunset, though, because that's when cuckoo really get singing.
>> And a lot of creatures sing at night.
When it starts getting dark, that can be prime time for creature songs. Owls [music] start hooting.
Raccoons get chordling.
>> Oh yeah, some creatures sing all night long. And you know when they start? At sunset.
>> Sunset? I can't wait till sunset to hear the cucur sing.
>> Well, then we'll have to figure something else out, Zabu, because you have to hear the cucur sing. It's such an amazing song. Oh, you'll love it.
Hey, you know, sometimes a cucur sings to warn other cucuras of danger. But there's no danger here. This is Animal Junction.
>> Oh, yeah. So, that won't work. Hey, I've got another way.
>> No, no, no. Tell me. Don't tell me.
Don't tell me. I can figure it out myself. Don't tell me. I can't hear you.
Can't hear you. I can't hear Martin.
>> Okay, Zab, let me know if you need a little help.
>> Hundy. Hund. I can't hear Martin. I can't. Hey, where'd he go? I can figure this out. I know I can.
I can't figure this out. How to get Cook to sing? Well, other creatures, what makes them sing? Sometimes creatures sing to tell others where they are. Like if a coyote is separated from his group, he'll howl. And others will howl back to let him know they're close by. That's how coyote packs stick together in their home range.
Maybe Cuckab isn't singing cuz he has no place to live. Hey, maybe if we help Cook build his nest, he'll get happy and sing.
>> Might be worth a try.
Let's build a nest.
>> Okay. All right. Let's build a nest.
How do you build a nest?
>> It's as easy as whistling.
>> Oh, whistling.
[snorts] If it's as easy as whistling, nest building looks pretty hard.
>> Cuckabas peck at a termite mound until the hole is big enough to fit into.
>> Oh, let me try.
Termite mounds are hard as a rock.
That's because they're made of mud, sand, and termite spit that's been baked in the sun.
>> What? Yeah, Zob. Termite spit. The worker termites go out and collect mouthfuls of earth. Then they bring the dirt back, wet it with their spit, and pack it onto the mound. Then the spit dries, holding all the little pieces together, making a mound that's hard as a rock.
>> As hard as a rock, >> just about. Oh, now that's hard. It's amazing that a cucur's beak and neck muscles are strong enough to bust a hole in a termite mound. Wow.
Hey, hey, cuck. Watch it. Oh, well, it's okay.
Nice nest hole. Cook will sing now, won't he? Nope, I guess not. I'll have to think of something else.
Sing like me, cookie.
>> Making a nest isn't the way to get a cucar to sing. Okay, so you want to know how to get a cuck bird to sing? All you have to do is >> I can't hear you.
>> Well, you know Zabu, he always has to figure things out for himself.
>> A snack. Cuckoo sing after eating a snack. Well, just like me. I won't chat until I've had my snack. But once I've had leaves that are just right for lemur bellies, I can't stop talking.
So maybe Cook will sing after he snacks.
Now let's see. Uh here's camel and there's Cook and Cook meat.
Whoa. Uhoh.
Not hungry, huh? H. So much for that idea.
>> Any luck?
>> No, he's not hungry. And he's still not singing.
After a snack, I always feel like singing and burping. Hey, that reminds me of something that happened in Zaboo Land. I was leaping along. Leap, leap, leap.
Trying to find someone to sing with me.
>> Oh, hi.
>> Hi, Google. Will you sing a song with me?
>> Oh, but Zabua, I don't have the mood for singing. Hey, I bet I know what will make you feel like singing. Follow me.
>> Okay. I don't know what it could be, though.
>> Gobble some berries, Google. That'll put you in the mood for singing.
>> Okay, Zoo.
Yummy, but I still don't have the mood for singing.
>> That didn't work, so I had to think of something else.
>> Hey, Nchie, how can I get Google to sing?
>> Well, let's try playing Gooberry Catch, Zabu. That'll get Google singing sure as anything.
>> Oh, good idea, huh? Oh, I'm I'm ready.
Oh, Gooberry catches fun and yummy, but I still don't have the mood for singing.
>> H, I know your voice sounds dry, Google, you must be thirsty.
>> Yeah, I am thirsty for jelly.
>> Then come on over. Yeah. Yeah, come on over. Drink. Drink. So, Google slurps up all the jelly. Slurp and sing. Gooberry jelly. That's the thing.
>> Jelly. Slurp and sing. Gooberry jelly.
That's >> So that's what made Google sing. But what about Cook?
>> How do I get him to sing? I can't figure it out. You crats have to help me. And you have to help me, too.
>> Okay. If you want to get a cucur to sing, all you have to do is sing like a cucur. I knew that.
>> All right. Okay. Ready?
>> Ready.
>> Okay. One, two, three.
[laughter] [laughter] [screaming] [laughter] Great. Keep it going.
>> [laughter] >> Wow, [screaming] >> great job. We did it. Excellent.
[laughter] >> Way to go.
>> You were great cucuras.
>> Yeah.
>> All right.
>> I'm feeling cuckaburish.
>> I feel different. Not the same. This kind of feeling I can't explain. There's only one thing that I can do. I feel cuckaburish. How about you, cucarish?
I feel cuckarish.
[laughter] Cuckabarish.
I'm a cuckoo bird. I'm a cucurish cookish.
>> You figured it out, Zab. Way to go.
>> Now I have to learn how to whistle.
Once he gets started, the cooker can't stop. He can't get enough of this singing. Let's join him.
Come on, sing along.
[screaming] >> [laughter] >> Okay, everybody sing sing.
[laughter] >> [laughter] >> That's great. Little more juice from the mammals. Please keep singing.
Sing. Whoops.
Uh-oh.
[music] >> [laughter] >> I had no idea my conducting would make such a splash.
>> That's our zabu. What a nutty lemur.
>> Incoming duck.
>> It's not a duck. It's a frog.
>> Of course, a wood frog. Another great singer. He uses his call to attract me.
Incoming duck.
[laughter] It's a lantern falcon.
>> Wow. This is no duck.
Message from Jack.
>> Wow. Sparrows, robins, redwing blackbirds.
>> I love song birds. And that's why today [music] I made my house safer for song birds.
Windows reflect sky which make birds think they can fly right through them, but they can't.
Sometimes birds fly into windows because they can't see them and can get hurt by the [music] glass. That's good.
So the animal hoppers and I put stickers of hawks on the windows so the birds know something is there. No song bird's going to get hurt at my house.
>> Yeah, there are lots of great singers in the creature world, but they don't always sound like who they are.
>> Do you know who that is?
>> Let's find out.
>> Sounds like a trip to the closet.
>> They're going to [music] the closet.
They're going [singing] on a trip.
They're going to the closet [music] to grab their stuff and split righteous.
>> They're going on a coolventure and they don't know what's in store. They're coming from the closet and they're headed out the door.
>> That's our cue. See you later, Z.
>> Bye, guys.
>> [screaming] >> Hear those sounds? They're coming from an amazing creature, an elk. And the sounds that an elk makes are called bugles. So, let's follow those bugles to the animal who makes them.
>> Yes. Out country.
Wa! Hey, Chris, you hear that?
>> I heard it loud and clear, Martin.
That's one creature who chatters up a storm. A red squirrel. And there she is.
The red squirrel's chattering big time.
And that's why a pine martin, the pine martin, is one of the red squirrels predators. And it looks like he's on the prowl.
The red squirrel is chattering to let the pine martin know he's been spotted.
The squirrel's saying, "I see you and I'm fast, so don't even bother trying to catch me." When red squirrels know that a pine martin's around, it makes it harder for a pine martin to catch a squirrel. Well, it looks like the pine martin's given up. So, now it's time for the red squirrels to get back to gathering food. Yeah, pine cones.
She's busy storing food, so she has plenty to eat through the winter. Hold it. We're getting distracted. I know.
There are so many amazing creatures that make incredible sounds, but we have to stay focused if we're ever going to catch up to a bugling elk. I have an idea.
I wonder what he has in mind.
>> Good idea, bro. Woohoo! All right, WE'RE KAYAKING DOWN RIVER.
OKAY, now I've got an idea.
How about this? Let's see if by bugling like an elk, we can call an elk in. Hit it, Martin. All right, here it goes.
>> That was the worst elk pugle I've ever heard.
>> Oh, yeah.
Well, he doesn't think so.
Must have done something right.
Sometimes when a male elk hears another elk bugling, he comes to check it out.
Males bugle during the rut [music] or mating season, and once in a while it can lead to an amazing antler fight.
Yeah. Bull elk test each other by pushing each other with their antlers.
Wow.
>> [screaming] >> He heard you, Martin.
>> Uh-oh. Oh, whoa. Wait, what? I think that big elk is checking out your elk bugle.
>> I know. But I don't have any antlers to fight with. I got an idea. Let's call in another amazing creature. [screaming] Yeah. Come on. Yeah. Over here. Come on.
Hurry up. Hurry up. Hurry, hurry.
Good job. All right, just in time. Let's ride back to Animal Junction and Sabumafu.
That proves one thing. Always give animals with big antlers their space.
>> Let's do the elk bugle for Zavu. All right.
>> Hey, that's no elk. Do you know who it is?
>> Hey, Zavu, what are you up to?
>> I'm not up to I'm up on up on a camel.
How'd you get up there?
>> On a vine. You know me. I'm a swinging lemur.
>> Yeah. Hey, look at this long neck.
>> Bet you a really cool song comes out of this camel.
Hey, look. You got You have camel fuzz on your face.
>> Well, I sort of landed head first.
[laughter] >> It's pretty comfortable though, isn't it? Up there.
>> Sure is.
>> Cushy.
>> But I'm going to go down. Ready?
>> All right. Oh. Um. Huh.
>> Are you stuck? You want to help me get you out of there? Okay, there you go.
>> Well, Sabu, no. Uh, I meant to do that.
Where'd he go? Zabu.
Hey, Zab. What are you doing?
>> I'm going to get back on that camel.
Here I go.
>> Z, look out for his head.
>> Whoa. Chris Martin. Whoa. Whoa.
Hey. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Watch out, guys.
Oh, Chris Martin. Whoa.
What? I smell mud.
>> Uh-oh.
I did.
Let's get you cleaned up. Towel. He goes out. Use a towel.
I'm okay. I'm okay. Say, uh, do camels burp?
>> I don't know.
>> Well, maybe they need to eat first, like me.
The snack machine will have something.
Apple, >> here you go.
>> Thanks, S.
>> Welcome.
I wonder if I can hear the sounds of the camel swallowing.
>> You can definitely hear the sound of a camel chewing.
Listen to that.
And look how he chews, too. His mouth goes from side to side.
>> Chris, do you hear it?
>> I hear food coming down. And he makes a lot of grumbly groy sounds.
Woo! He does burp after all.
>> What a song I like to sing when I work with clay.
>> Wiggy waxwing.
>> I was leaping along. Leap, leap, leap.
When I bumped into Wiggy Waxwing.
>> Oh, you know something's wrong when Wiggy is running back and forth.
>> I don't know. What am I going to do? Oh no.
What am I What am I going to do? What am I going to do? What am I going to do?
What am I going to do?
>> What's the matter, Wiggy?
>> I'm wigging out. I can't remember my wiggy wax swing song. I can't remember any song.
>> Oh, well that's too bad, Wiggy.
Everybody should have a song to sing.
Google has his gooberry song.
>> Googleberries. Googleberries. They feel my goober.
Google.
>> And Nie.
Nie's got his trumpet sound.
>> Then I thought of something. What?
Wiggy, why don't you >> First she sang like a rooster.
>> Then she sang like a coyote.
Then like an elk.
And then she did the song of the cucur.
And that made her really happy.
The end.
>> I love how different creatures make different sounds for different reasons.
>> My favorite part was riding the camel.
>> How'd you get up there?
>> On a vine. You know me. I'm a swinging lemur. [laughter] I liked when we all sang with the cuckoo.
>> Creature songs are great. Hey guys, I know another creature [music] song.
Let's hear it. Oh, >> this animal is a friend of mine. From the tip of his nose [music] behind. All the friends that we met today are special [music] in their own way. We've all got different names, but we're really all [music] the same.
Thanks for dropping by. We're glad you came.
These animals are friends of mine.
[music] They jump and swim, crawl, fly, and climb. One more thing we have to say. Go [music] make an animal friend today. Yeah.
>> Bye brothers.
>> See you later.
>> Keep on singing.
>> Swinging.
>> Let's head to Florida.
>> Yeah. And hear the dolphins singing.
We'll see you later.
>> Hey, how do you want to get there?
>> Well, let's go by horse, sea kayak, mountain bike, boat, bus, jeep. Yeah, I got the keys. My name is Daniel and my dog's name is George and I love him very much.
Look out for the log.
>> Nice dive, bro. Well, I know where the mud is now. I just wonder where Zabu is.
Thanks, Chris. Let's call him.
Zamafu. Zabu.
[music] Zabu. Zabu.
There he is.
Hey buddy.
How's it going?
What are you looking for? Zabu.
You know Zabu. He's not going to say anything till he's had his snack.
That was a great jump, Zabu. Way to go.
Here, let me scratch it. Oh, right there. Huh.
Let's see what we have for Zabu today.
This is going to be huge.
One garbanzo bean. That's not enough for Zabu. I'll be right back. Okay, I just have to find that thing. Where is it now? Aha. All right, this ought to do it.
Let's see. Adjustments up here.
Jackpot.
Zabu. Zabu. I found some garbanzo beans.
Zabu loves garbanzo beans. Yeah.
[music] >> Excuse me.
Hey, Crap Brothers.
>> Yaza.
>> Chris, I was thinking you have Martin and Martin, you have Chris.
>> Yeah, we're brothers.
>> And you're buddies.
>> Yeah, we're buddies, too.
>> Well, the creature I saw, she had a buddy. Who could it be?
>> Who could it be?
>> This animal who I did see. Can you [music] help me guess this mystery?
Okay. Okay. The first creature I saw had hundreds of wavy fingers. But she wasn't alone. A creature buddy was right there with her.
>> Who could it be?
I didn't see.
>> And the little orange one was swimming in the tan one.
Who could it be? This animal who I did see. Can you help me guess mystery? [music and singing] >> Dude, weird water buddies. Do you know who they are?
>> Oh yeah. Hundreds of little fingers, tan and wavy. And another creature swimming all around. Whoops. I got it.
Whoa.
>> [screaming] >> A clown fish and a sea anemone.
>> I GOT YOU, BUNNY. HOP. Nice save. Nice find.
>> What amazing creatures. And the more you look at them, the more you learn about them, the more amazing they become.
[music] At first, when you look at them, you think there's only one creature there, but when you look closer, you see there are really two. The clown fish and the sea anemone. Talk about a great team of buddies. These creatures really know how to get along. The clown fish and sea anemone live together in the oceans.
Living in the ocean can be really dangerous. It's a fish eat fish world down there with lots of predators at every turn. Like this colorful grouper and the long jawed trumpet fish. Can you believe those chompers? The tassled wobgun shark. A puffer fish.
And of course, there's always a white-tipped reef shark swimming around.
In a place like this, the clownfish and the sea anemone really watch each other's backs.
These creatures have a symbiotic relationship. A clown fish and a sea anemone each get something good out of living together. They protect each other.
>> Believe it or not, this clown fish will live with this sea anemone all his life.
>> Oh, well, they must be buddies like you and Chris.
>> Yeah. Hey, I wonder if clownfish and see an enemy want to be my buddy, too. Let's be buddies.
>> Wait, no.
That doesn't tickle. That stings. Well, maybe they don't want to be my buddies.
Spin's the thing.
Why'd he do that?
>> Sorry, Zabu. I didn't get a chance to tell you. The sea anemone stings because he's protecting his little buddy, the clownfish.
>> Oh, well, now that I know that, I know what to call you guys. Cuz clownfish and sea anemone is a lot to say all the time. Well, you try it. Say clown fish and sea anemone three times fast. Clown fish and sea anemone. Clown fish and see anemone. Clown fish and sea anemone.
That's hard. Let's see. I think I'll call you Finn and you Sting. Yeah, Sting and Finn. That's much easier. And Sting does sting. So, you'd better give the sea anemone his space. Unless you can do what the clownfish does, you're going to get zapped.
Okay, Finn, show us how it's done. I'm watching. What does he do?
>> When a sea anemone is defending herself or catching prey, she shoots little stingers from her tentacles. But she doesn't sting a clown fish. Here's why.
A sea annemy is covered with slime. So, the clownfish does a little dance, covering herself with slime [music] and making the sea an enemy think that she's just another one of her tentacles. The clownfish becomes the sea anemone.
That's why the sea anemone doesn't attack the clown fish.
>> So, you're saying I have to do a dance and rub myself with slime?
>> That's right, Zabu. That's how the clownfish does it.
>> Okay, I'll do it. I'll try the be my buddy boogie, but I'll try it without slime. Hey, Sting. Here's my dance.
Check it out.
Zappa, look out.
>> I really need my own buddy to watch out for me when I'm dancing.
>> Yeah, I need my own buddy who can watch my back.
>> We're your buddy, Zabu.
>> Oh, yeah. But you have to watch out for each other. I need a special buddy who can watch out for me full time.
>> Can you help me find a special buddy?
>> Sure, Zabu. Let's all keep an eye out for a special buddy for Zabu. Somebody who will help him out as much as the clownfish and sea anemone help each other.
There's another reason the clownish and sea anemone are great buddies up. You see, the clownfish lays eggs and she lays those eggs underneath this thing on the sea anemone called an oral disc.
It's a safe place for the eggs until they hatch because the sea anemone protects them. And that's not [music] all. A clownfish isn't a great swimmer.
So, it's not a good idea for him to be swimming around the ocean all alone. If a clownfish wants to survive, he has to find a sea an enemy to live in. So, you can think of the sea anemone as the clown fish's house. It's a safe place to go when there's danger around. And the sea anemone gets a great bonus out of being buddies, too. He gets protection from his enemies, like the butterfly fish. You see, one of the clown fish's jobs is to chase away any butterfly fish. That's because a butterfly fish will bite the sea an enemy, taking off a chunk of tentacle with each bite. So, the clownfish has to chase away butterfly fish to protect his buddy.
Sting and Finn are made for each other.
I'll keep looking for somebody who doesn't have a buddy so we can be buddies. Yeah.
Hey, uh, I need a buddy so he can tell me when a creature's about to grab my tail.
Whoa.
Hi, Lost and Found. [laughter] Well, I can't ask Lost and Found to be my buddy cuz everybody knows his special buddy is Brainiac the chimpanzee. Hi, Brainiac.
You go and play. Okay. And now I'll go look for a buddy of my very own.
>> And you'll find one, Zab, because there are lots of buddies in the creature world, like an oxecker and a rhinoceros.
The oxecker eats the bugs off the rhino, and the rhino gets a good cleaning. But that's not all. A rhino doesn't have very good eyesight. So, if the oxecker takes off, then the rhino's warned that something might be up.
Look who's here. Two baby sloths. And this is about as fast as they like to move.
>> If that's fast, I don't leap. Hey, I remember you sloths. Yeah, I remember what I called them, Martin. I called you slow and you slower.
Perfect names for Swan Sabu.
>> Nice to see you again.
>> He dropped his bark.
>> Martin will get it for you.
>> Got it.
>> There you go. Now, sloths usually don't eat bark, just leaves. But, uh, maybe he wants to play with it.
>> See, he just took that so nice and easy.
>> Yeah. And he's only got two claws on his hand.
>> Yep. The two-toed sloth.
>> Hey, Martin. Are these two buddies?
Well, sloths usually don't buddy around together too much, but you can find sllo in the same tree when there are really good leaves to eat because sloths love eating leaves. They eat a lot of leaves.
It's their favorite food.
>> Hey, uh maybe you guys want to be my buddies. What do you want to do?
>> They're doing just about everything they want to do right now. Just hanging around and eating leaves.
>> So, uh you probably don't want [music] to leap around Animal Junction with me.
>> Floss don't leap, Sabu. They just hang in the trees. In fact, they hardly [music] ever even go down to the ground.
And they already have their own buddies.
U insects. Hundreds of insects live in a sloth's fur. It's a safe place to be if you're a bug. But bugs aren't the best buddies to have if you're a sloth.
Sloths have a lot of creatures living with them. But these creatures aren't exactly buddies. Sloth beetles live behind their elbows and knees. And sloth moths live inside their fur. And these buddies itch. Tell me about it. They itch. Oh god. Really itch? Oh, I know how they feel cuz I got bugs all over me. You know what that meant?
>> Where'd they come from, Zabu?
>> I don't know. Maybe they think I'm a sloth. They itch like crazy. I wish they'd stop.
Shark. Where'd you come from? Have you been here all day? I guess you noticed I've got a bug problem. These bugs are bugging me. They itch. Huh? What?
Oh, thanks. You're a great shark buddy.
>> Buddy. Hey, you can be my special buddy.
Shark's going to be my special buddy.
>> Shark can watch out for Zabu.
>> Yeah, cuz he can watch in all directions so I won't bump into things.
>> And Zabu can watch out for Shark.
>> Yeah, >> perfect.
Chameleons have the most incredible eyes. See how each eye can look in a different direction?
>> [music] >> So he can see Zabu leap over there and over there and over there. He can see everywhere.
We can't do [music] that.
Hard.
A sloth can't do that either. See, a sloth can't move their eyes independently like a chameleon [music] can, but she can move her head a full 180°. This lets her see the ground no matter which way she's hanging. We humans can't turn our heads around like that.
Nope. Nobody does it like my buddy Shark. Always keeps an eye on his buddy Zabu. Hey, that makes my mind remember one time in Zaboo Land I. I was leaping along leap leap leap.
When I thought I heard a rock crying.
And I said, "Is that a rock crying?"
>> No.
>> And a sad little voice said, "It's not a rock. It's me, Sima." "Why are you so sad?" Well, then no one wants to be my buddy. Nobody wants to hug with me because I'm so slimy.
[laughter] And I told her, "But I don't mind. I'll be your buddy. You can give me a hug, can Oh, okay."
You see what I mean? It's hard to be a buddy when you squirt out of their hugs.
And I said, "I love your slimy hug."
That was fun.
>> It was. Oh, you come back here. Yeah.
Yeah. Let's do it again. Okay. Can we do it again?
>> Oh, yeah.
Oh, >> now I'm slimy, too. You're my best buddy, and it's my turn to hug you.
>> What a fun way for buddies to spend a day.
>> The end. Hey, you know what, Shark? Just like the clown fish, I've got my own buddy, and it's you. I'm feeling clown fish.
I feel different. Not the same. This kind of feeling I can't explain. There's only one thing that I can do. [music] I feel clown fish. How about you, clown fish? I feel clown fish.
Fish.
I'm a fishy creature and lemon are my pals.
Clown fishes.
There are lots of buddies in the creature world, and creature buddies always do things together.
>> Swing.
It's so mung secret to have you as my buddy Shark. Well, now there's Chris and Martin and Finn and Sting and Slow and Slower and Shark and Zaboo.
Animal Junction's full of buddies.
Incoming duck. Oh, it's probably not a duck. It's probably It is a duck. It's almost never a duck when they say duck, but then sometimes, well, sometimes it is a duck.
Oh, look. She brought a message from the animal helpers. Oh, sea shark.
>> Wonder what they're up to now.
>> Here, Scotty. Here, boy.
Hi, guys. Hi, Zaboo. Amy here. My family and I are going on a holiday, but we can't take Scotty with us.
>> What are we going to do with Scotty while we're away? Easy. Hey, Scouty.
You're [music] going to stay at Boomer, aren't you?
And we can't forget all your stuff.
Whoa, he's got more stuff than I do.
Let's go, boy. I couldn't put my best friend in a kennel for two whole weeks, so he's staying with his buddy, Boomer.
Scotty and Boomer met in the park and have been buddies ever since.
I think Scotty's going to have a great holiday at Boomer. Don't you?
>> [music] >> She sure is a great buddy for animals, isn't she, Shark?
>> I know a couple of great creature buddies in India.
>> I'm thinking what you're thinking, bro.
Come on, Chris.
>> Sounds like a trip to me. They're going to the closet. [music] They're going on a trip. They're going to [singing] the closet to grab their stuff and split.
[music] >> Guess it's safe to go in. Be my guest.
>> No, please. You go first. No, really, bro. After you.
>> You waited TOO LONG. [screaming] >> THEY'RE GOING on a cool adventure and they don't know what's in store.
>> Binoculars.
All right.
Let's go spot some creatures. See you later, ZABOO. BYE, Z.
>> BYE, BROTHERS.
[music] We're here in Mocha, India, looking for two creatures who are true buddies.
Martin's talking about the langanger monkey and the cheetah deer.
Chris Langanger monkeys 12:00. Hey, there might be some cheetah around, too.
How many monkeys you see? Martin.
Martin. Martin, you think there are some Whoa, the langanger monkeys and everything are getting closer.
Oh, no. I didn't know these binos had automatic zoom.
>> Martin, stop the brake. Use the brake.
BREAK.
OUCH.
OH, my head is spinning. But I'm not seeing stars. I'm seeing leaves.
Of course, I'm under the langanger tree.
THAT'S WHERE I LANDED. [laughter] I'm up in the langanger tree. I'm a langanger monkey. And we Langanger monkeys have a bunch of buddies headed this way. Cheeto deer. All right. I'm a Cheeto deer. We Cheeto deer love hanging out with our buddies, the Langanger Monkeys. Do you know why? Here's why.
See, we lang monkeys love to eat these mahooa leaves. But we don't eat the whole thing. Just the soft inside of the stem.
The rest we just toss away. And that's what we Cheeto deer love, the leafy parts. Except we can't get these juicy leaves way up there. It's too high. So we need the help of the langanger monkeys. Thanks, Langers. No problem, Cheetel. Here, catch.
How are you, Cheetel [music] doing down there? Great. What's up with you Langers? Everything.
Langers and Cheetles. What buddies?
Everybody's having a great time chowing down.
Hey, but that's not all. Another thing that makes these two such great buddies is that they understand each other's alarm calls. So, if a predator like a tiger's around, the langanger monkey and the cheetle deer are going to know about it.
Langer alarm.
[laughter] Cheetah alarm.
Chris a tiger. Wow.
Everyone's taking off. We better listen to what they're saying and head back to the jeep. Hurry up, Chris. I'm hurrying, buddy.
Thanks, Cheetles. Thanks, Langers.
We're out of here. [music] >> Let's go.
Wait. Oops.
Hey, Fisher.
Oh my goodness. There's so many of you.
I got to count again. One, two, three. I wonder what Zabu's up to. There's only one way to find out.
>> Let's go. Hey, Zabu, we're back.
>> Zabu, where is that lemur? Hey, Martin, check it out.
[music] Munch out deer. A whole family of them.
>> Welcome to Animal Junction.
>> Yeah, Shark and I have lots of buddies now. Well, Shark likes to watch. He doesn't want to get in the way of these guys feet.
Munchack deer are one of the smallest deer in the world. This male is full grown, but he only comes up to my knee.
That's not very tall for a deer. I mean, a caribou is [music] 25 times heavier and three times taller than a munchack deer.
You see, compared to a caribou, well, you're just really small. Yeah. It's sort of like comparing me to a garbanzo bean.
Can you believe how small and slender their legs are? [music] It's a big deer body on tiny, delicate little legs.
Slender legs for fast running. So, what do you think a munchjack deer likes to eat? Apples.
Munchjack deer are pretty shy. I'll toss it to him.
Look at that.
She loves it.
>> Oh, that tongue's as long as Nie's nose.
>> I'd like to see that again.
>> It's incredible. A Munchack deer's tongue can lick all the way up to her eyeball.
>> Monga, that's a long tongue.
>> Hey, take a close look at a Munchack deer's face. It's pretty amazing. Yeah, it looks like they close their nose when they're sniffing.
>> Try it. [snorts] >> That's a lot of work.
>> It's a weird way to smell, but it must work for the munchack deer.
>> Monkjack deer are pretty munga animals.
Well, hey, don't run away. Munchjack deer is like my buddy in Saaboo Land. I was leaping along. Leap, leap, leap.
>> Leap. When I bumped into my buddy, no drill. I said, "Hello, Noggin." Ouch.
>> Oh, hi, Zabu. Zabu, I want to play with a buddy. Can you play with me?
>> I've been playing all morning. Hey, if Wiggy's home, maybe she'll want to play with you. Let's go see. All right, Wiggy.
>> Wiggy. [screaming] St. Oh, well that's no good. I I'm really in the mood for playing with a buddy. Well, can't you hang around and play with me, Zabu?
>> Well, sure, Noggin. What are buddies for? What do you want to do?
>> Oh, my favorite thing. I I'll dig a hole and we'll play in it. Yeah. Ready? Here we go.
>> Sounds great.
>> How's the hole, Muggrill? Is there room for a buddy in there?
>> Oh, there sure is, lots of space. Come on in and see for yourself. So I did.
Oh, the end.
>> So you see, Montjack, [music] you don't need to be afraid of me. I'm your animal pal. I'm your Animal Junction buddy.
This animal [music] is a friend of mine. From the tip of his nose, it was finally behind. [singing] All the friends that we met today [music] are special in their own way.
We've all got different names, but we're really [music] all the same. Thanks for dropping by. We're glad you came.
These animals [music] are friends of mine. They jump and swim, crawl, fly, and climb. One more thing we have [singing] to say. Go make an animal friend today.
>> Yeah.
>> There are all kinds of buddies in the creature world.
What's that, Shark? Oh, okay. Shark's got to go now, but we're going to meet up later. Now that we're buddies, we're going to hang out more. See you later, Shark. Good buddy.
>> That's great, Zabu. I'm glad you finally found someone you could call your buddy.
>> Yeah, but now I've got to get back to Madagascar. Bye, Mojack, dear.
Bye, Chris.
>> Bye, Zabu.
Okay, I'll see you later, brothers.
>> BYE, ZABU. SEE YOU, BUDDY. HEY, what do you say we go check out more buddies?
>> Yeah, honey guides and honey badgers.
>> Let's go.
>> See you next time. Bye.
>> Hi, my name is Kevin. This is my dog named Ty and she likes to swim.
